What a crock. In this country you are allowed to speak your mind and say what you wish without retribution. And that includes singing the anthem or not. The men who sacrificed did so for just those rights. That a few laker fans booed the play on words for "Rockets red glare" was not in anyway shape or form a slap in the face to any veterans that have sacrificed for us. That you get your panties in a wad and blow it way out of proportion simply cause its the hated "Laker fans" is.

Bingo!

Man, some of you crybabies will take any chance you can get just to jump on Laker fans. Had this happened at a Suns vs. Rockets game in Phoenix, everyone here would be defending it. I wouldn't personally have taken part in the boo'ing, but it's not that big of a deal. Not like they were burning a flag for crying out loud.

Yup absolutely have that right I agree. Doesn't make you or anyone else that partakes in it any less classy. It is a slap and a total mockery of the reason we sing it in the 1st place.

Yeah right. This board is downright obsessed with the Lakers at times and will take a stab at anything in Lakerland.

I wouldnt have boo'd either but would have been amused at the "Rockets red glare" booing part.

Whoever the dolt was that did the tags on this thread is the one whos actually classless.

"Damn you if you don't think and act like I do! This is America- you HAVE to respect the traditions I do! People did not fight the Nazis so you could just go and do whatever you want!!! HRRRRRR"

You don't boo during the anthem regardless of you reasons!

Oh I didn't realize that was a law now

Um yes, you're sounding a bit silly.

Its the national freaking anthem. Typically sung at sporting events to honor those people at Iwo jima and many others for that matter. It is a slap in the face to whatvit stands for and shows an extreme lack of class! End of story!

When people end arguments with things like "Period!" and "end of story!" it makes them come across as very close minded and arrogant, FYI.

I like this 'freedom of expression' idea you're exposing- sign me up!

what's the 'rockets red glare'?

Theres a line in the US National Anthem that says "And the rockets red glare" referencing the US Revolutionary War against Britain. Since the Lakers were playing the Rockets (who coincidentally wear red) some of the Lakers fans were having some fun by booing any mention of the Rockets or their team colors.

Our National Anthem played at the Olympics, when we are competing with the countries of the world, is special. It evokes emotion and pride.

Our National Anthem to open one of thousands of ball games within our country has evidently lost its meaning.

Perhaps that's why some people take it lightly. Have you watched our athletes behavior while it is being played?

Which is why I would like to see our National Anthem changed from one about bombs.

Listen to the late Ray Charles version of American the Beautiful. You can feel the pride.

Wow, great argument. Very well thought out and constructed. I can see I'm clearly over matched here.

Don't need to go into anymore detail since I started the thread and know exactly why I did. Reason being had nothing to do with laker hate!

Yeah and your thread had nothing to with class either since words like "moron" and "idiot" were thrown around by you.

So much for telling Laker fans to stay classy... "do as I say, not as I do"

I call BS! Your post wasn't titled "Anthem Dissed" , "Veterans maligned".... nothing of the sort. It was directed at Laker fans. Not to mention you called out a whole fanbase on the actions of a select few.

I suppose you stood up wherever you were in your house as the anthem was being played. Put down whatever you were eating or drinking and made sure your kids were standing at attention as well with their hands over their heart. If you didn't, you didn't follow protocol. Does that mean you are classless? Does that mean you are mocking everything it stands for and the sacrifices our fighting men and women have made? Not at all. It would just mean that anyone who called you out for not doing so would be making a mountain out of a molehill. Nothing more...

fwiw, I'll pile on. Yes, it is classless, yes, it is a slap in the face to the veterans that fought to give you the right to A) Be classless, and B) slap them in the face with the act of being classless.

And oh, HELL YES, I'd call out Suns fans for it. I'm harder on my children for their misbehavior than I am other people's kids. I'll call out my own harder & louder than I call out others...because I expect better from what I call "my own".

Well I'm certainly not your age grandpa

You are just full of disrespect aren't you.

It is custom to show respect for a country, especially your own. I've stood and been respectful during Canada's National Anthem, America's National Anthem and Mexico's National Anthem. These are symbols of national pride for the people of that country and changing the words and being disrespectful by booing belittles the country. If you cannot understand that, then I feel sorry for you and hope you decide one day to raise your children better than you were raised.

Agreed, I'd be disgusted if it were Suns fans, Cardinals fans or any other team that I like. Classless is classless, no matter the circumstance.

They were just having fun and not booing the anthem or anything about it, it was no big deal.

If you are making any noise during the anthem, you are disrespecting the anthem.

Sounded funny to me!

The national anthem or it's distortion isn't funny. The anthem is supposed to remind us for those who have fought and bled for this country.

Of course I don't expect anyone who hasn't served their country to understand such things.
