Watching Steve and BB do the D'backs spring training game on TV at Chase Field tonight vs. the Reds is a pleasure.Man, its going to be rough to have announcers actually give game analysis and play by play rather than fawning over children in the stands and telling "aww shucks" style jokes.
Let me be the first to officially say it....Stevie B is PAINFUL to listen to. Absolutely no life in his voice Brenley's chime in's should be more often, I love that guy!
I like the guy and I love the pairing.
Steve

I'm with you. Outrageous and childish announcing (as in Sutton and Grace) belongs on sports-talk radio (for those who enjoy that), not in the play-by-play and color commentary of a baseball game.I like the guy and I love the pairing.
It's now June 26th. I like listening to Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly.Bert is ok,I just wish he wouldn't treat every can of corn as if a bomb was just hit. He seems to yet be able to judge the depth of fly balls.
I've heard humor lately from one or the other or both. I don't blame them for starting out seriously, especially following the childish mentality of their immediate predecessors, who found a topic each game (or for days on end) and beat it into the ground. These guys together are pretty dull.. Can I get a humorous story every now and then...
I've watched a lot of D'backs games this year and I heard him do that only once. It was recently when she was at the pool. When he turns it over to her on Sundays (when she does post-game), you'd never know they were married.... instead of Steve always wanting to point out his wife?

Would you call Vin Scully "dull"? It seems that, with the exception of Bob Uecker who clearly played the role of comedian, the announcers who weren't dull over the decades were the ones who had weird personalities, such as the later years of Harry Caray.

I am always interested in the background of announcers, for the positive aspects it adds to their personalities. Did you know that Cindy Brunson is 1/4 African-American (on her father's side). The mixture makes for a charming lady, of which Steve can be proud.
Berthiaume is horrible and I have to mute the game sometimes. Tonight Goldy hits a routine flyball and he screams like the ball was hit 450 feet. He is terrible and has not gotten any better since April. He is not a major-league announcer.

Steve might be a little rough from time to time as an announcer but the tandem of him and Brenly is MILES ahead of Sutton and CAAARRRRR. (And to be honest, I kind of liked their antics.)
He's in his first year calling games and I think he's doing a pretty solid job.
Brenly is rock solid and fills his role as the color guy very well. As for Steve, I am cutting him huge slack as this is his first year after all... But, I REALLY hope he goes back and reviews his games after the season is over... He needs to make several important changes if he wants to stick around for a while...
So he shouldn't do his job because you're superstitious? I'm fine with the only long-standing unwritten rule that a TV announcer doesn't harp on is your own pitcher throwing a no-hitter. Showing the scoreboard and saying something like, "That says it all" would suffice.Steve loves to put out statistics on players. Last night Skaggs had retired 12 in a row, as Steve is informing us of this, Skaggs promptly walked the batter. I think this has happened quite a few times this year, he's jinxing the pitchers.

OK, he is overdoing it a little bit. Sutton and Grace had the same bad habit, beating everything into the ground. They had the chance to overcome that nervous trait with experience and did not. Let's hope that Steve does.Just going back over the replay on MLB At Bat, he also informed us of 5,6,7,9 and 11 in a row...
