Love it. Almost kinda strange though. Seems like they're both a little "too big" to be broadcasting Dbacks games. Not gonna complain though.

Man, its going to be rough to have announcers actually give game analysis and play by play rather than fawning over children in the stands and telling "aww shucks" style jokes.

Watching Steve and BB do the D'backs spring training game on TV at Chase Field tonight vs. the Reds is a pleasure.

The IQ level vs. what's-his-name and what's-his-name (and I don't mean the Guv'nor and Gonzo at the end of the season) is overwhelming.

I was wondering if the director in the truck would cater to the intelligence of Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly and he has. A blonde in the stands once in awhile is OK, but after every pitch of the inning catered to the leering pre-teeners in the booth.

'Too bad the Suns didn't do it as well with the Steve they chose to do play-by-play.

I'm with you. Outrageous and childish announcing (as in Sutton and Grace) belongs on sports-talk radio (for those who enjoy that), not in the play-by-play and color commentary of a baseball game.

The greats (Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Marty Brennaman, even Harry Carey, to name a few) never sunk to that level.

Nor have Thom Brennaman, Greg Schulte or Jeff Munn with the D'backs.

There is a time and a place for everything!

I loved Grace...

Jeff Munn is the worst announcer I have ever heard on the radio...

Brenly is great. We are really lucky to have him and his insights to the game.

Berthiaume is basically vanilla ice cream. Nothing special, kind of boring, but is pretty good paired with something else (Brenly)

Bert is ok,I just wish he wouldn't treat every can of corn as if a bomb was just hit. He seems to yet be able to judge the depth of fly balls.

It's now June 26th. I like listening to Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly.

But you hit it on the nose about Steve's depth perception on balls hit in the air.

For the final out against Washington, he called, "There's a fly ball to shallow ssssssssss......... second base.

It was obvious Steve was about to say "shallow center field", then he saw the second baseman moving in to catch it.

"There's a fly ball to shallow ssssssssss.........second base. It was funny!

These guys together are pretty dull.. Can I get a humorous story every now and then instead of Steve always wanting to point out his wife?

I am probably in the minority when comes to what kind of announcers everyone seems to like.. My favorite was the fat dude that always talked about food that awhile back.. Jim Traber was his name.. He was with Thom Brennaman. That was my favorite duo..

I've heard humor lately from one or the other or both. I don't blame them for starting out seriously, especially following the childish mentality of their immediate predecessors, who found a topic each game (or for days on end) and beat it into the ground.

Would you call Vin Scully "dull"? It seems that, with the exception of Bob Uecker who clearly played the role of comedian, the announcers who weren't dull over the decades were the ones who had weird personalities, such as the later years of Harry Caray.

I've watched a lot of D'backs games this year and I heard him do that only once. It was recently when she was at the pool. When he turns it over to her on Sundays (when she does post-game), you'd never know they were married.

I am always interested in the background of announcers, for the positive aspects it adds to their personalities. Did you know that Cindy Brunson is 1/4 African-American (on her father's side). The mixture makes for a charming lady, of which Steve can be proud.

She is so terrible, I can't get that channel changed fast enough. Who gives a crap what her background is, ugh she is horrible. What's with those promos too? I don't need this idiot taking time from our other post game talent who do a quality job.

Berthiaume is horrible and I have to mute the game sometimes. Tonight Goldy hits a routine flyball and he screams like the ball was hit 450 feet. He is terrible and has not gotten any better since April. He is not a major-league announcer.

Don't forget about him calling JJ Putz AJ Pollack in the 9th. He just can't go from ESPN to calling MLB games on a daily basis.

So what is he is a little distance challenged? Put a microphone in front of you with all of us critiquing you and see how you fare. :D

Steve might be a little rough from time to time as an announcer but the tandem of him and Brenly is MILES ahead of Sutton and CAAARRRRR. (And to be honest, I kind of liked their antics.)

He's in his first year calling games and I think he's doing a pretty solid job.

While I enjoyed Sutton and Grace, I don't bag on Steve because of that. But if I kept notes on how many times he has screwed up, I would need a new notebook by now.

Brenly is rock solid and fills his role as the color guy very well. As for Steve, I am cutting him huge slack as this is his first year after all... But, I REALLY hope he goes back and reviews his games after the season is over... He needs to make several important changes if he wants to stick around for a while...

Steve loves to put out statistics on players. Last night Skaggs had retired 12 in a row, as Steve is informing us of this, Skaggs promptly walked the batter. I think this has happened quite a few times this year, he's jinxing the pitchers.

So he shouldn't do his job because you're superstitious? I'm fine with the only long-standing unwritten rule that a TV announcer doesn't harp on is your own pitcher throwing a no-hitter. Showing the scoreboard and saying something like, "That says it all" would suffice.

But it is the radio announcer's responsibility to say that he hasn't given up a hit through ___ innings. How would you feel if you were listening to the game for seven innings and not be told the pitcher is throwing a no-hitter?

But "retired twelve in a row"? Of course he should inform us. We're not keeping scorecards at home as the announcers are.

Just going back over the replay on MLB At Bat, he also informed us of 5,6,7,9 and 11 in a row...

OK, he is overdoing it a little bit. Sutton and Grace had the same bad habit, beating everything into the ground. They had the chance to overcome that nervous trait with experience and did not. Let's hope that Steve does.
