No I don't think he is at all.

I think anyone who learns a new position for the first time is going to make mistakes. He's got to learn the landscape of the entirety of his position which is freaking huge let's just admit that.

It's not just players, it's getting deals signed and managing the cap, hiring coaches, overall strategy of the organization, all these things make the job a relatively enormous job.

To top that off he's competing against people hired by billionaires to win a sport.

That's a big big, HUGE ask.

The way to do it effectively though is to understand your own limitations and surround yourself with people who not just plug gaps but bring the organization towards excellence and you have to find those people who are willing to do this without being so ambitious as to dethrone you or in other words betray you just to get ahead.

Huge job.

The best way forward IMO is to work on being honest as an organization and collecting quality people in the right roles.

No he's not a bad GM at all. Was the Wilks hiring a misstep? Maybe but all guys talk great and you don't really know who's who until there in that position.

He actually drafts above average despite what people here say. Those people kind of have an unrealistic view of the draft and the success rate of picks.

He's fleeced teams in trades and his free agent signings have proven to work out for the most part.

People complain we didn't sign CC but money comes from the owner he tells his GM what he can spend. MB isn't some tech billionaire.

He built us into contenders let's see if he can do it again

the good:

Arians hire
Trading for Carson Palmer
Jared Veldheer signing
2015 draft
2018 draft
trading for Chandler Jones, subsequent contract

the bad:

2017 draft
2016 draft
Having Ty Mathieu, Tony Jefferson and DJ Swearinger, and somehow losing all three due to cap issues
Gresham and Pugh contracts

the TBD:
Wilks. Early indications aren't good though.

the bad luck:

Mathieu and Jon Brown were steals in the 3rd, then injury and ? happened
M Floyd - a player on the rise and then...…

to use a analytics term: Keim feels like "replacement" level GM. No demonstrated repeatable skill (i.e. coach ID, great contracts, great drafting, UDFA id, etc)

That really sums it up perfectly.

I think Keim is an average GM. He has strengths and weaknesses. Where I get most frustrated is that I see him makes the same mistakes over and over again. I don't see him learning from them.

you got some of them goats for us this week?

Not reallly. We'll see. I didn't even watch the game last night after the kids went to bed. We watched A Quiet Place on DVD. It was really good!

Maybe I'll watch it tonight if I can trick the old lady. It doesn't make for very interesting reading and writing when it's the same guys week after week. I'm not getting fooled by three-point home win against maybe the worst team in the NFL. Seems like a lot of people here are.

You should have seen it in the Theater. I was afraid to eat my popcorn because the theater was so quiet. It was quite the experience.

Yes. My sister-in-law had a lot of questions that she needed to ask during the movie. That was... problematic. I'm not sure I would have been able to handle an experience like that in the theatre.

No. Keim has been a net positive for this organization. His first three years, the team produced three consecutive 10+ win seasons, a first for this organization.

I think anyone who was paying attention knew that Keim sold out to try and get a ring with Palmer and BA, which set us up for a rebuild.

Keim's fate will be determined by how he rebuilds next season, particularly at O-Line. He had a good draft this year with his first three picks starting, including an encouraging QBoF. If this team goes something like 6-10 in 2019, I could easily see him being fired.

The first worry should be Wilks. It's evident he's in way over his head.

I think the big difference is we stayed competitive and won by 3 without actually winning the turnover battle.
two weeks ago we could have been +2 and still lost that game.

I don't think I've seen anyone "fooled". I think many are excited by Rosen coming alive and leading the team down for two TDs to win the game. The offense needs a lot of pieces to be consistently good.

Not “bad” merely average. He works for a disfunctional franchise. I know many on here think Michael Bidwill is a “great” owner but he really isn’t IMO.

I have watched this team for over 50 years. They get a little run once in a while where they are pretty good but it never lasts long. Has it improved? Yes. But, the bar was pretty low with the elder Bidwill in charge and the elder, elder Bidwill before him for that matter.

Keim is probably about the best of what the Cards will get. Again, IMO.

FWIW I look forward to your Goats section more than I do your Heroes.

Yep, this is the problem. I would say until he changes this, he won't be a good GM but, honestly, we can't afford to give him that chance. We stand to be drafting high next season, and I'm not confident in SK to surround the Rosen one with talent next year.

Biggest issue with Kiem are the drafts and this ridiculous small school fetish he has.

That and his unbalanced BPA mind set. When you need a linebacker, draft one, do not go get a "great athlete" and play him out of position.

I hear this a lot. Please explain what he did.
