And if he screws up in the draft again, and fails to land us a QB? Will he still deserve it then? I get that he doesn't count against the cap, but if they have to fire him later, it will cost the team way more.

I'm one of the few that, until last draft, has been all for NOT drafting a QB early. The QB would not have unseated Palmer and the team was in a position to contend for it all. Now, last year, you could see CP may be done after this year. So, a QB would have been a good option. But, all the quality ones were gone by time the Cards picked.

People want to focus on the negative of Keim's picks. I get it, but he's also had some very good picks. Marcus Golden. David Johnson, Chandler Jones for a 2nd rounder, Bucannon has started from day 1, Mathieu, Budda, John Brown before he got sick. I think Humphries will stull turn out to be a good pick. Minter, Okafor, and Ellington have all had various levels of success in the league. Even Watford and Stefan Taylor have made contributions.

I agree his drafting has had it's misses too but he's not the terrible drafter he's made out to be.

Feeling ambivalent about this. Keim's passion and work ethic are exemplary---no questions about that. His chemistry with Michael Bidwill is excellent. What we need to see from Keim, imo, is a more aggressive and comprehensive approach to free agency. Like it or not, the Cardinals right now are the least attractive team in the NFC West for free agents and part of that is because of how many disgruntled players have left feeling that Keim lowballed their market value. To a degree all teams go through some of that---but recently the Cardinals have gone through more of that than usual. Plus, aside from his signing of DE Chandler Jones, three of his most recent big signings were excessive and have cost the team valuable cap space: (1) the Palmer extension at $24M a year---which ironically didn't afford more money for solidifying the OL; (2) the Mathieu contract which, if TM doesn't agree to rework, is now an albatross; (3) the Gresham contract which is beyond all form of human comprehension.

I thought it was real bogus of Keim last off-season to vow to the fans that he would be "very aggressive in free agency" only to wind up signing 3 older veterans---(who are the easiest to sign particularly in the first few days of FA because there is far less competition and maybe even no competition at that point)---and he signed them on the 2nd day of FA, only 1 of whom (Bethea) had a good year.

As for his drafts, we should see in the next year or two who was more to blame for the lack of player development---Keim and his scouts---or the coaches. These lackluster drafts have to change.

I do not think Keim has done enough to warrant this kind of extension. MB had an option year on Keim in 2019---so he could have easily waited another 2 years. MB has not had success signing coaches to second contracts (quite the opposite as both CKW and BA went downhill form there)---so one has to hope that he has better success with Keim.

So the assumption is that NFL GM contracts are always 100% guaranteed Does anyone here know if that is truly the case; is it a NFL mandated requirement?

Good for him, he is a solid GM, and more importantly, has the trust of Bidwill.

- Negotiated two head coaching searches, apparently to the satisfaction of Bidwill

- Provided a deep roster to a coaching staff that gave them enough ammo for the head coach to be the winningest in Cardinals history

- Handled personnel issues like DWash and Floyd very well and in-line with ownership

I like this coach hire on paper- then again we don’t have the top passing talent we somewhat wasted the last 10 years- so now we’re suppose to rush better than last place - sorry for beating my dead horse again - but damn it when we showed effort to balance consistently and rush the ball we won - and was spectacular - when we played one dimension we were hit or miss feast and famine - under both Whiz and BA - Green was a good football coach, drafter, person, I appreciate him even more in hindsight.

Bottom line I see nobody better to replace keim with - but if he just followed average of draft rankings- we would hav3 a better team - one example is Everson griffon insteady of Smokey Brown

Very few GM's (including perhaps, Steve) will ever reach the ranks of the elite, but I do believe his football sense is in the top quartile when it comes down to sound football knowledge & not doing really dumb things.

My key litmus test for any GM is how quickly he moves to fill roster holes, deal with injuries or right other personnel wrongs. In this regard, I think SK has artfully walked the fine line between overreacting & underreacting..

I'm willing to cut him a break on straightening out our O-line, but, in terms of results-only, feel he deserves little more than a D+ in this dept.
