With the release of safety Tyrann Mathieu on Wednesday, it marked the end of an era for the Arizona Cardinals, the entire draft class from 2013, the first under general manager Steve Keim, is gone.

First-round pick Jonathan Cooper was traded after 2015. Kevin Minter, selected in the second round, left in free agency a year ago. Mathieu was the team’s third-round pick that year and he was just released.

They had two fourth-round picks, which they used on Alex Okafor and Earl Watford. Okafor left in free agency last year, as did Watford, although Watford came back and is a free agent again...

I consider that class a good draft. Remember that draft was super weak at the top.

Nobody understands but hindsight is 20/20 Cooper was thought to be the safest pick in the draft a plug and play 10 year pro bowl type. He was the highest rated guard in like 20 years.

He got hurt and that was it for him however he did bring us Chandler Jones.

Kevin Minter was what he was drafted to be and that's solid. He gave you all he had

TM was a legit super star before the injuries got to him

Alex Okafor was a good depth guy and had some sucess.

But there are guys here who will tell you if you draft a guy in the 4th he should be a pro bowl player.

All these guys except Cooper played a part in us being contenders when we were contenders

and three years later, we retained ZERO of them and only 1 left from the next draft. That is a huge problem and big reason for our many holes.

Don’t worry guys, we’ll draft some small-school stud like Gunter or Chad Williams who had one good game in one entire year and that would be the flash in the bottle for Keim to take him with the third round pick while Kyle from Richmond is still on the board.

That is a extremely forgiving take on that draft class. On Cooper, who knows if any other team in that #7 slot or lower would have taken Cooper. Most successful teams build through the draft.

I’m not sure why you continuously do this but it’s not “Kyle from Richmond” lol. His first name is Kyle. Last name is Lauletta.

I’m really not trying to stick up for Keim’s drafting but you guys seem to be forgetting that that year’s draft was historically poor all around.

.........I guess.

Alex Okafor is still in the league and producing, and Tyrann Mathieu ended up being a DPY candidate until injuries destroyed him.

No excuse for Jonathan Cooper (even though Chance Warmack never really did much either).

I do not even want to think about Kevin Minter with the 2nd pick when Menelik Watson was just sitting there, among other options.

Yet, Keim's draft history, is well known among the Cardinals fans, and it is not good.

The worst question to ask right now, is who is the best draft pick Keim has made at this point ?

Marcus Golden? Deone Bucanon? Budda Baker?

Irrelevant to the discussion..they aren't being retained.

I think it is.

Just because the team got rid of the player, doesn't mean they were bad picks, just bad management of the talent. That management includes the draft, BTW.

Anyway you cut it, the drafting that Keim and Arians did over the last few years is nothing to write home about

Awful drafts, and that's why they've regressed. But, they did draft a QB before that, which is why they're not cellar dwellers like they probably should be.

I disagree, it means they either under performed or didn't fit the system.
