Anyone know the caphit for cutting him?
The Titans are about $26M over...

He only had 8 starts last year, and is completely injury prone. But I think he'd thrive here.

Any thoughts?

I heard he hates the new logo :D

My fear on McNair is he'll probably retire. Supposedly he had a pretty tight relationship with Heimerdinger so if he were going anywhere it would be the Jets as insurance against Pennington's rotator cuff surgery, except that's likely why they'll try to keep Quincy Carter.

Dont know the exact number but I do know they will save a good amount of money if they cut him.

He would be another option with the likes of Bledsoe if he gets cut.

I have manlove for McNair. He's one tough SOB and is a competitor.

Despite his injury problems, I'd love him here.

I do think it's likely he'll retire though; the man is in constant pain...

I think it's not a stretch.
I think Denny would like it.
I think the fans would like it.
I think the recievers and McNair would like it.
I think McCown is a competitor so wouldn't be thrilled with it, but aside from Kurt Warner, if you wanted to be someone's backup (if you craved playing time) who'd be a better bet right now?

:bhiich:
:cards: <--- but angrier!

He's due to cost 12.6 million against the cap next year. From what I've read, the Titans are giving him time to make his decision which indicates they'll keep him if he doesn't retire.

We'll end up with either Brad from Tampa or somebody weird like Tee Martin. He might do nothing for all we know- I think it depends on how Denny truly feels about Navarre.

I have a feeling we get o-linemen in FA, and maybe one or two players who played with Denny in Minn. I predict that Denny has another great draft, and that helps us really improve. I'm sure Denny analyzed a lot of college talent while he was in between coaching jobs. It would make sense that he would have known a lot about last year's class, and a decent amount about this year's draft.

My best guess is, McNair stays with the Titans for one more year to try and get to the SB. If not, he retires and return after 2 years of healing, well rested, and playing with his kids.

Next season the Titans will have a better team that the Cards.........

I'm actually stunned by the lack of excitement in getting a talent like McNair in our biggest area of need. Brad Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Brooks, etc are all getting more support from fans on this site then McNair.
Isn't he just one year removed from the Pro Bowl and co MVP. He took his team to the Super Bowl and is an outstanding leader.

Think back to how many games we could have / should have one this past year if we had a talented and experienced QB.

I still gotta believe McNair is still one of the top 10 QB's in the NFL.

He is considering retirement because he is beaten up, the Titans are in cap HELL and won't sniff the playoffs because either he and or several key players will be cut to save money.

The Cardinals need to address the OG and RB positions for the offense to be very attractive to any QB.

McNair is exactly what this team needs and would instantly make us a strong play off contender.

I would love to have McNair here, as many have noticed, I am a pretty big supporter of McCown, but I could't pass on McNair!

I don't think anyone wouldn't be ecstatic if we landed McNair, I just don't think he's going to be an option. The GM of the Titans has said he is going to give McNair some time to decide whether or not he wants to retire. The only reason I can see the GM saying this is that he's not going to cut him. If he were going to cut him, there'd be no reason for him to give McNair time to decide.

He's either going to retire or come back to the Titans. From all other indications, he's not going to be cut.

Green has done a heck of jobs resurecting players' carrers in Minny.

Maybe he'd try to do the same here by bringing in McNair and return him to his All-Pro status.

A healthy Mcnair is an upgrade but the question is his health and mileage. I think that he is beat up beyond repair and would need the same things that any Qb would need here. A very good Oline and a superior RB. Things that we have lacked for sometime. Qb is not our superior need now the Line and Rb are. We have the opportunity to fix these things this year and have a marginal backup Qb that is better than King brought in. If we were to bring in a Mcnair we will not be able to fix these things unless the Cards spend to the cap which they rarely do. I don't think DG will go this direction. He wants to win next year.

To make our O-line solid all we need is a RG. RB can be either a FA or draft pick.

QB is our major need as of right now. McCown is not the short term answer and may not be the long term answer either. Even if McCown is the next coming of Favre it appears the DG doesn't believe this.

As for the Titans cutting McNair I agree that is very unlikely. I would see if we can work a trade for him.

There was an article that someone posted on this site that dealt with McNair retiring. If he retires then the Titans will most likely get out of CAP jail this year (cutting highly paid older players) and start rebuilding. If he doesn't retire then they will try to restructure players and extend their CAP issues into the future. Either way the Titans will struggle to be a playoff team over the next several years. The Cards are actually in better shape to be a strong playoff conteneder over the next several years then the Titans.

If I were McNair I would love a chance to play for DG and an up and coming team like the Cards instead of the Titans who are leaking oil.

Well, I guess dreaming is free.....Mcnair and most FA do not see the Cards as an up and coming team. DG said that they would target FA that they played against because they would be an easier sell because they have seen firsthand the changes we are making and could want to be a part of it. DG also said he believes Josh will rebound alot like Brees did last year so I do not know where you get that DG doesnt believe in Josh as his QB. The only way we get a Mcnair even if he becomes available is with a ton of cash. And we need more than a RG to solidify this OLINE. We need two gaurds and a RT and better depth. And Yes Rb will be obtained thru FA(which cost alot of money) or thru trade or the draft. The Qb is not even in the top three as far as needs for this football team. That is not to say if Brooks or Mcnair were not available reasonably priced we shouldn't get them. I just don't feel they will be.

The chances of the Titans letting McNair go are less than zero.

Our cap problems are big, but manageable.

This article gives you a pretty good synopsis on where we are headed cap-wise:

http://www.gotitans.com/artman/publish/article_00581.shtml

If McNair retires, look for the Titans to clean house - Rolle and Mason would likely be cut/traded and we would clear all future cap issues and re-build. If McNair does decide to come back, we make minimal cuts, re-negotiate a head of contracts and hope for better luck with injuries next season.

Either way, he retires as a Titan. (eventually)
