Well, I guess dreaming is free.....Mcnair and most FA do not see the Cards as an up and coming team. DG said that they would target FA that they played against because they would be an easier sell because they have seen firsthand the changes we are making and could want to be a part of it. DG also said he believes Josh will rebound alot like Brees did last year so I do not know where you get that DG doesnt believe in Josh as his QB. The only way we get a Mcnair even if he becomes available is with a ton of cash. And we need more than a RG to solidify this OLINE. We need two gaurds and a RT and better depth. And Yes Rb will be obtained thru FA(which cost alot of money) or thru trade or the draft. The Qb is not even in the top three as far as needs for this football team. That is not to say if Brooks or Mcnair were not available reasonably priced we shouldn't get them. I just don't feel they will be.

I'd have to disagree as it stands right now. I think Davis, Wells, Step are going to be better next year just from another year in the weight room, playing together, and experience. I still think Shelton if not cut will find a spot at RT or RG, and Clement can be a decent backup at either position. Off course all that changes if DG feels they are both too overpaid and decides to cut them. I think QB is at least the number 3 priority for this team, behind RB and run stuffing DT. McNair would be a huge signing if we could ink him for 2 or 3 years, but like Carpy said, I just don't think he will be cut.

How can you possibly know that?
Does not take a Rhodes Scholar to see that FA have used us to get better contracts elsewhere. There have been plenty of comments from former players that couldn't wait to get out of this organization. Do you some how believe all of that went away with our 6-10 season? DG is changing the perception around the league but that will take time and winning before Players want to make this there pick of choice rather than there place to get overpaid. Lets be real about that.

If we go in to the season having not upgraded the Oline with a Coleman or a top pick in the draft then this team will struggle again running the ball even if we get a quality RB. The Oline is #1, Rb is #2 and DT is #3. Then qb is a need but not until the others are fixed. We can get a FA qb reasonably priced to compete with McCown.

Would be just a big of a mistake if we brought any of these broken guys here. Gannon, Johnson, McNair. No thank you.

This post is exactly what I'm talking about. Gannon and Johnson are "broken". McNair should not even be mentioned in the same breath as these two.

The chances of the Titans letting McNair go are less than zero.

Our cap problems are big, but manageable.

This article gives you a pretty good synopsis on where we are headed cap-wise:

http://www.gotitans.com/artman/publish/article_00581.shtml

If McNair retires, look for the Titans to clean house - Rolle and Mason would likely be cut/traded and we would clear all future cap issues and re-build. If McNair does decide to come back, we make minimal cuts, re-negotiate a head of contracts and hope for better luck with injuries next season.

Either way, he retires as a Titan. (eventually)

I read the article again and still came away with the impression that there are a lot of hopes and wishes as far as players renegotiating their contracts. Even if this all happens they are extending CAP issues into the future.

The Titans have been a very good team for quite some time now. CAP mgmt. seems to be an area of opportunity though. Very few players get to play their entire career with one team. McNair may be one of those few but I would not be shocked if that doesn't happen.

Shelton is the key variable in all of this. If he works hard this offseason and gets into DG shape then he should be our starting RT. Wells got nothing but positive ratings from DG about his play this year. This really only leaves RG as the major hole in the O-line.

DT is a need but the defense finished in the top 15 this year. Since our offense was ranked somewhere around 29th it seems to me that QB is our biggest issue. Sure a stud RB and improved O-line would help but the glaring weakness is at QB. I should also state that I'm not a McCown hater. I would love for him to be the back up to McNair.

This was all true a year ago and we still signed Berry. What Mike Bidwill, DG and RG are accomplishing here is not going unnoticed. Throw in a new stadium and the Cards are moving out of joke status.

What we need in FA is a QB, RG, CB, DT and TE. RB should be addressed in the draft. This would give us a team with no major holes in the line up. Not all of these FA's have to be Pro Bowlers just solid starters.

I agree that FA is where we really need to hit a homerun. If Hovan can become the player he was and we could bring in a Coleman at gaurd and a Lucas at Cb we could then look for a Running back (R. Brown) or (C. Fason) in the draft. Qb will be a work in progress this next season. Mcnair talk is just that....Talk. McCown and a Servicable Vet(Gannon,Fiedler,Johnson) are about the only options out there. I would not rule out getting the Rb with a traded player and 3rd rd pick. But I would still draft a Rb with my 2nd rd pick. There will be good value with that pick.

Your right McNair is more broken. My guess is he signs a contract to make big $$ then retires in 1 year.

NOt as bad as Gannon coming off a broken neck of course, but McNair has had major back surgery and has been unable to regularly practice for 2-3 years now, he's considering retiring for a reason, he's in constant pain.

I love the guys competitiveness but he's not healthy and hasn't been for quite some time.

McNair is a long shot but one worth taking.

I like your FA goals. I would add a TE to that group. I just can't get excited over any of the QB's you mentioned, even as back ups.

With Shipp still on the roster I don't think we need to spend 2 draft picks on RB's. The best scenario is to make use of this talented and deep draft at the RB position and not trade a pick for a veteran. Now if some team wants Thompson, Starks and Clement for a RB then sure, but no picks.

There is not one single person on this board here who would love to see McNair here more than me. How many of y'all are Titan fans??? And, if he did land here, I would be the first in line for his new Big Red jersey. Everybody else would have to stand behind me in line! Problem is, the Titans will exhaust every single option before letting him go. But, by doing that the Titans will enter into re-building. And Mac wants to win NOW!! He has some time left in the league, but he doesn't have that much time to spend with any team going thru the growing pains of re-building. The Titans might not want him to go, he just may request it! I think with a decent O-line to work behind, and a quality RB, and TE, (Mac loves his TE's), it would NOT be a long shot to say that Mac might end up here........Remember Kearse was always going to be a Titan too, and so was George.........;)

McNair is done. Even if he doesn't retire, he will never be an effective NFL QB again, other than for one or two lucky games that he doesn't reinjure himself.

And the Titan fans are VERY delusional. Most think they can get everyone to resign/renegotiate for cheap, and they will be right back in the SB. And of course, they are all already counting the game in AZ as an easy win.

I disagree with the 1s statement. I think he has at least 3 or 4 years left in him. It is his wife that wants him to retire, not him. She wants him to spend more time with the family and kids. He still has it in him, and he still wants to win it all.

That 2nd statement is probably why you won't find me much on the Titan board any more. And yes, they are counting on this game here next year as an easy win, but so are alot of Card fans I've read from that are counting on that game as an "easy" win. Something's gotta give

Steve definately does not want to retire - but his body is trashed. He will be a major target for every Defensive player, and the sternum is an injury that won't go away - and one that when re-injured, is impossible to play with.

And I don't think many on this board would ever call ANY Cardinal opponent an easy win - since we have saved two teams now (Jets and SF) from having winless seasons....

Steve was born with a condition that had cartilege in his sternum where there was supposed to be bone. Steve never knew about this until he injured it last year. He had surgery to remove this damaged cartilege, and replace it with bone. He is supposed to make a full 100% recovery from this. The sternum will not be an issue next year....

I'm not sure where you read Titans fans speculating that the Cards will be an easy game, but take it from me that we know full well we are in for some tough times and we know that the Cardinals are a vastly improved team.

Is there optimism that we can still make 1 Superbowl run before the Salary Cap forces us to absolutely blow up the team? Hell yeah. If McNair (and Chris Brown and Calico) are fit and healthy (I know that's a big if) our offense is good enough to put up some big points and our defense is young and improving.

What odds are we about winning the Superbowl next year? I say about 50/1.

We have already started the rebuilding to a large extent. last year we had 13 draft picks and by the end of the year 11 oof them were getting game time each week. If that's not rebuilding I don't know what is.

Also, in relation to the Kearse and Eddie situations - Kearse was a free agent, and Eddie had been washed up for a number of years. 90% of Titans fans were glad to see him go bcause we knew he had nothing left.

Carpy - tried to respond, but the downtime wiped my response out - but briefly, I live in Nashville - I hear the Titans talk 24/7 on the radio - and hear the "easy win" crap all the time from the hosts and the callers.

Can the Titans move ahead of Indy and win the Division? Doubtful. Can they move ahead of Houston and Jax? Maybe, if they can get a number of players to renegotiate, which is harder now after the Randall Godfrey mess, and if they can keep Derrick Mason and Kevin Carter (not likely), and if Calico can turn into a number one reciever overnight (if healthy) and if they can come up with a good OC to replace Heimerdinger......

I'm not sure who you're trying to teach Titan history to, but I'm a Nashville native up until 2 years ago. I've had too much fun meeting Cardinal diehards here on the boards, and at the games and tailgates. My loyalty at the very beginning of this past season was all Titans, but now my loyalty is all Cardinals. I will never let go of my #1 loyalty and love for the original and best football team in Tennessee, the Vols.

I read Titan fans all the time picking apart their schedule next year and already predicting the wins and losses. You can read about stuff like this on the Titan board (TOMB), which is where most loyal Titans congregate to talk about Titan football. This particular subject here was about Steve McNair, and his potential to be a Cardinal, not about the Titans and how much trouble they are surely in due to over-inflated salaries.

And btw, they tried to re-sign Kearse, they made him an offer as to what they thought his market value was, he declined because Philly wanted to make him one of the most over-paid and over-rated DE's in the league today. They also wanted to re-sign George, but in a supporting role to Brown. George did not want that, he wanted to be the starter. He signed with Dallas thinking he would be the starter, but Jones emerged and George saw less and less playing time, and so he was not happy in Big D. But, Titan fans were definitely worried after George's departure last off-season, it wasn't until Brown emerged at the beginning of the season, that then and only then Titan fans started talking like George who???

BTW, absolutely NO SHOT at the SB next year, or anytime soon thereafter. NO SHOT!!!!!!! Titans #1 goal should be just getting back to .500!!!
