And last year, we didn't have a big man worth a damn other than Amare. KT >> Hunter, and Padgett > Waltuh. Who cares whether Burke or Jones is better than Voskhul, because they'll never see anything other than garbage time. If we can pick up a swingman who can play 20+ minutes so the Matrix can slide into the 4 spot half the game, we'll be fine. Maybe we'll get him this year, maybe next, but we're now able to keep this team fully intact for the next 4-5 years. I think whether we win a championship ultimately depends on how Amare develops, which is probably what a championship depended on before the Joe Johnson trade.

I tire of this argument, and don't have the energy nor interest to continue. There are too many unknowns in the equation. No matter what, I don't feel very good about what's happened so far. Who knows? We may be better because of all these moves, but I don't feel that way right now. I would be quite surprised if I was the only one...

Padgett's barely better than McCarty if it all. Both of them hang around the 3 point line on offense and play no defense or rebound on the other end. Sure Thomas is better than Hunter but I think what Chris was referring to is the frontcourt players who come off the bench. Right now we're looking at a McCarty clone, some Irishman picked off the trash heap, and a guy who couldn't get minutes on last year's 13 win Hawks team. Sorry if that squad of losers doesn't inspire too much confidence.

Granted, Joe Johnson will not be hard to replace, but depth-wise, this team is so much better than last year. Our bench is much better.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there Chap.

Joe Johnson will be extremely hard to replace! Who do we replace him with? JJax? Doubtful. JJ is an All Star callibre player IMO and we'll struggle to pick up anyone remotely with his talent. Hunter is going to be VERY hard to replace too. Don't blame him for taking the security option. He wanted to be here but we couldn't give him the security. Good luck to him. He deserves better then what we were willing to offer.

And our bench of Scott Padgett, Barbosa and that Irish guy would be up there with the worst in the league.

Sarver/BC, your f**king this team up!

I think the Suns will have more depth, but that is not hard to project. Late last season the Suns had a 7 man rotation. Just adding Finley would match that.

BTW, I feel there is a very good chance Finley will come to Phoenix. He gets a little bit more money if he goes to a team which can give him a full MLE, but it works out to about $2.5 million after the offset. However, he gets $1 million with the veteran minimum. For a guy who is already making $15 million a year, $1.5 million to play for the Suns is not that much to give up.

We don't know if overall Padgett is any better than McCarty, but he is a much better three point shooter so on net it looks like a small improvement.

It is very hard to know if Burke is better than Voskuhl, but his is reputed to be a fairly good mid range shooter. Jake's complete lack of offensive skills made him useless while Burke might even play some. Once again, only a small improvement but some.

Leandro was injured much of last year and struggled. He hasn't proven he is a point guard, but he has proven he can score. I expect at least some improvement although that is not saying much.

Diaw replaces Bo. Both are mostly mid sized defensive specialists. However, Diaw is reputed to be a solid ball handler who may get minutes at point guard. Since Bo was mostly a human victory cigar, Diaw would have to be a total bust for this to fail to be an improvement.

In general, it looks like the Suns will end up with more guys who might actually contribute but improvements are minor. They have a trade exemption and I think it is important to use on someone with near starter talent.

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that Hunter's deal is actually 4 years/$16.5 million with an option for a fifth-year.

wow...that's grossly overpaying for a guy who cant shoot ANYTHING, cant dribble, can pass, and has extremely poor floor vision. this guy isnt going to do anything put rebound and block for this team....and $4mil per year is outragious for that.

Can't blame Hunter for taking that deal.

BTW, he had nice things to say about Phoenix, said he would have liked to have stayed, would have taken slightly less to stay. JJ could take lessons from Hunter.

His play was inconsistent, but I don't have any questions about Hunter as a human being. How many NBA guys with minimum contracts set up charities?

I don't believe he's worth the money as a player, but there are a lot less worthy human beings getting much more.

“I can play physical, I can play running up and down, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just going to stick to my strengths, and that’s running the floor, blocking shots and being an opportune scorer and rebounder.
Seems accurate enough to me.

Good for Steven Hunter. He came in last year for next to nothing, and he played hard, kept a good attitude (even when he was getting benched), and showed some talent. He seems like a nice guy and a team player.

I think the Sixers will be happy to have Hunter. His lack of shooting won't be so important in their system, and with Hunter coming in for Dalembert, the Sixers will always have an active shot-blocker on the court, to help hold down the other team's efficiency so that the Sixers can keep up.

Best of luck to him!
