I'm going through my old album collection this afternoon, and I came across my Stevie Wonder records.

I've been litening to some of them, and I would just like to remind everyone that Stevie Wonder is a musical genius!

Carry on...

I definitely agree... Growing-up in Metro-Detroit (like I did) you had to love his music.... It's unfortunate that he didnt receive much recognition during the late 60s and early 70s because other Motown acts (mainly Temptations, Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, and Marvin Gaye) overshadowed Stevie.... Not to detract anything away from those I mentioned, but he deserved just as much recognition....

What Stevie Wonder albums do you have? His best by far were "Talking Book" and "Innversions"....Definitely both of them could be compared favorably to anything that is around today.... I bought "In Square Circle" as a kid because I loved "Go Home" and "Part-Time Lover".....

I also loved his drumming on Hendrix's BBC album....He definitely is a genius and it absolutely has nothing to do with him being blind whatsoever...He's a prodigy for sure....

Agreed!

Especially after listening to "Sir Duke" and "My Eyes Don't Cry", I always feel better and tend to forget all my troubles....The power of music is unreal!

If I had one album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Songs In The Key Of Life. That album has something for everyone on it. Not to mention the pure pleasure of hearing Stevie sing. Outside of that, I love Hotter Than July, Jungle Fever sndtk., and Talking Book. And let's not forget about his old stuff. Angie Girl, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, and Hey Love are 3 of my all time songs. I think he has more songs that have driven me to tears than any other other artist. Ribbon In The Sky may be the greatest ballad ever. You and I is probably the greatest wedding song ever! My brother's wedding party came in to Overjoyed. I love Stevie!!!! Great post Ken!!!!!!!!

KLL, you have one of the widest spectrum of musical appreciation I've ever seen. Bravo, we musicians need more open minded types like yourself.

Oh, and Stevie Wonder is fantastic.

Stevie Wonder Makes "Time"

Icon returns with first album in a decade

After a decade-long absence from the recording world, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and multiple Grammy-winner Stevie Wonder will return in April with A Time 2 Love. It's been a decade of personal change for the Michigan native, who first burst onto the scene more than forty years ago as "Little" Stevie Wonder, with the track "Fingertips Pt. 2." Since 1995's Conversation Peace, Wonder has gotten married, had a young son, now 3, and lost his first wife and his brother. As evident by the lyrics Wonder read aloud from Braille on his tour bus after a surprise appearance at a recent Los Angeles radio festival, A Time reflects on all these transitions. The title track, written with India.Arie, is particularly charged, addressing 9/11 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wonder promises to give fans a preview of the new record on December 18th, when he hosts his ninth annual Christmas benefit concert, House Full of Toys, at the Los Angeles Forum.

Where are you in the recording of the new record?

Right now there are fourteen songs on it. I produced it. It was at some awards show where I was talking with Snoop and I think he's gonna do something on another song. It's called "Keep Fooling Yourself," and it's a song that will have an appeal to a cross-section of audiences. His voice will just work perfectly.

Will there be other collaborations?

There's a song called "Shelter in the Rain," and I might do that with Yolanda Adams. "If Your Love Cannot Be Moved" will probably be the first song on the album, and I let Alicia [Keys] hear that, so she might do something on it. We have another track with Doug E. Fresh doing beatbox.

You've never been shy about expressing yourself, and this album appears to be no different.

People have to express themselves. When people cannot express themselves without being called "Jesus haters," "God haters" or "anti-American," you're leaning in that direction. To my understanding, the greatness of being a melting pot of so many different people is people are able to express themselves. If everyone had to be and feel the same way, I think it'd be kind of boring. I wouldn't want to be here.

There's some romance on this album as well. What's your favorite love song?

At different times I've had different love songs. As a little boy, my favorite song was the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles song "I'll Try Something New." That's when I was, like, eleven or twelve years old. I had this little girlfriend named Francine, and ooh, I wanted to go to the bottom of the sea and get her flowers that she'd wear in her hair and all that kind of crazy stuff. But then at another time, it was [Barbara Lewis'] "Baby, I'm Yours" -- that was a great song. Then maybe a song that was just kind of a place of reflection was [the Beatles'] "Yesterday," because it's like love of life and things that have happened. Then there was [the Four Tops'] "I Can't Help Myself"; and, even though I was young and didn't all the way understand it, [Lenny Welch's] "Since I Fell For You"; and then [Etta James'] "At Last."

What about right now?

My favorite song right now is "Lose My Breath" by Destiny's Child. I'm a major fan of Beyonce -- she has a great voice. And I was a major fan of Aaliyah's voice. My heart was so broke, I said, "You know what? In the next life she's got to be my wife." I also think Babyface has written some great stuff, and I think John Mayer is a great writer. I like his honesty a lot, and I like India's honesty a lot, too.

There's a lot of poetry in "Passionate Raindrops." Do you have a favorite poet?

I can't say a favorite poet, because I listen to different poems for different reasons. I remember the first poem I read: "My love is like a red, red rose that's newly sprung in June." I was around twelve, and I would do it with a British accent or sort of an African-American cultural accent, like, "My love is like a red, red rose, baby." I like being silly. When I was trying to talk to the little girls back in the day, they'd say, "Oh, you're so funny."

Sounds like you were a little ladies man.

No doubt. You gotta feel it. But love is a wonderful thing, and I'm just thankful that I've some wonderful people in my life. And, obviously, from knowing love and sharing love, you can write songs of love.

Wonder Unveils 'Descriptive' Music Video

05/11/2005 2:46 PM, AP

Stevie Wonder is adding some vision to the term "music television."

After 10 years without an all-new studio album, the Grammy-winning Motown superstar returns in June with "A Time to Love." While that's big news, Wonder is hoping to make headlines with something else.

At the Raleigh Studio on Monday, Wonder directed a theater full of reporters to put on blindfolds. "This is an experience I want you to have because this is the experience that I had," he said. "Travel with me through the experience."

The lights dimmed and on came the music video for the album's first single — the fun and funky "So What the Fuss." Seconds after the song's intro, Wonder's music and lyrics dipped into the background to make way for hip-hop star Busta Rhymes' description of the action on the screen.

"So What the Fuss" is the first music video to be released with a second, "descriptive" audio track. In it, a narrator explains the on-screen action to help visually impaired viewers "see" the action.

"I was in the studio and I wanted to enjoy what we had done and get a sense of what was happening," Wonder later told Associated Press Television News. "So my engineer started describing to me, what was happening visually and I just said, 'You know what would be incredible would be a descriptive video?'

"It just so happened that Busta Rhymes was in town working on his project and he was at the studio and I said, 'You know, Busta, what would be great? What about you being the one who narrates the video and actually tell what's happening?' ... He messed with it for minute and I said, 'You know, let it sound like you.'"

The result is almost conversational, as if Rhymes is watching the video with you, whispering the on-screen action into your ear. Wonder said he hopes the descriptive version of the video will get play on such major music outlets as MTV, VH1 and BET, with the narration made available on the outlets' secondary audio channels.

And he promises all the album's future videos will get such a treatment. "For the first time, a blind person such as myself was able to see how fast-paced the movement was of it, the cutting was and the various things that I think sighted people take for granted."

As for "So What the Fuss" itself, Wonder recruited no less than Prince on guitar and a reunited En Vogue on backing vocals. The album includes variations on classic Wonder themes: tolerance, peace, harmony. "We really are in a time where we must love," he said, "and there is such a great desire for love I think throughout the world."

Wonder and his wife Kai are expecting their second child (his fifth), due Friday, which happens to be Wonder's 55th birthday.

"Hot summers bring busy springs," Wonder said, laughing. "What can I say?"

I LOVE STEVIE WONDER!

Am listening to him on my ipod now! His songs are awesome!!!

Call up, ring once, hang up the phone
To let me know you made it home
Dont want nothing to be wrong with part-time lover
If shes with me Ill blink the lights
To let you know tonights the night
For me and you my part-time lover

We are undercover passion on the run
Chasing love up against the sun
We are strangers by day, lovers by night
Knowing its so wrong, but feeling so right

If Im with friends and we should meet
Just pass me by, dont even speak
Know the words discreet when part-time lovers
But if theres some emergency
Have a male friend to ask for me
So then she wont peek its really you my part-time lover

We are undercover passion on the run
Chasing love up against the sun
We are strangers by day, lovers by night
Knowing its so wrong, but feeling so right
(repeat)

Ive got something that I must tell
Last night someone rang our doorbell
And it was not you my part-time lover
And then a man called our exchange
But didnt want to leave his name
I guess that two can play the game
Of part-time lovers
You and me, part-time lovers
But, she and he, part-time lovers

Not a very nice song, but fun nonetheless. :)

Another great Stevie song!

A boy is born in hard time mississippi
Surrounded by four walls that aint so pretty
His parents give him love and affection
To keep him strong moving in the right direction
Living just enough, just enough for the city...ee ha!

His father works some days for fourteen hours
And you can bet he barely makes a dollar
His mother goes to scrub the floors for many
And youd best believe she hardly gets a penny
Living just enough, just enough for the city... yeah!

His sisters black but she is shonuff pretty
Her skirt is short but lord her legs are sturdy
To walk to school shes got to get up early
Her clothes are old but never are they dirty
Living just enough, just enough for the city...um hum

Her brothers smart hes got more sense than many
His patiences long but soon he wont have any
To find a job is like a haystack needle
Cause where he lives they dont use colored people
Living just enough, just enough for the city...

Living just enough...
For the city...

His hair is long, his feet are hard and gritty
He spends his life walking the streets of new york city
Hes almost dead from breathing in air pollution
He tried to vote but to him theres no solution
Living just enough, just enough for the city...
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

I hope you hear inside my voice of sorrow
And that it motivates you to make a better tomorrow
This place is cruel no where could be much colder
If we dont change the world will soon be over
Living just enough, stop giving just enough for the city!!!!

It's somewhat ironic that this thread was bumped-up because I saw the Cosby Show episode the other nite on "Nick At Nite" when Denise and Theo's car collided into Stevie's limo and subsequently each family member was invited to one of his recording sessions and actually made some demos w/him.. Here's the synopsis courtesy of http://www.tv.com:

Anyways...... here's some of my fave youtube.com videos of him:

There are plenty more that I really enjoy, however, dont want to go overboard as usual! :)
