This guy is roster filler. This team needs impact players, not roster filler. I don't care how many tackles a guy can make 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

Okay the irony that you are all complaining about this potential signing as a young player coming off of injury who hasn't fulfilled his potential and then bemoaning the loss of Breaston isn't lost on me.

At least be consistent. :D

if Breaston had never had a 1000 yard season (something Bradley never came close matching in a commensurate fashion as a LB), or had missed basically TWO ENTIRE YEARS of football, you might have a point... but since he hasn't and Bradley has, I don't.

ILB's are different from most other position players in that toughness, smarts, instincts and grit can make up for a lack of speed or athleticism.

If the dude is healthy, bring him in (it can't hurt).

Bradley did have concussion issues last year, but he played in 12 games. To say he "basically missed two entire years" is not correct. He was very average last year after a pretty good 2008 season.

And my comparison to Lenon was based on the title of the post -- I feel that Lenon played above expectations last year given what most people thought/expected when he was signed. I do think we need an upgrade over Lenon at ILB and have Lenon rotate in vs. start, and whether Bradley is or not remains to be seen. I'd prefer Tulloch, but depends on price at the end of the day.

"If healthy" - sounds like a Cub fan reminiscing about the Wood/Prior days.

Hmm...

2008 Stewart Bradley 108 tackles, 1 sack, 1 ff, 1 int
2008 Steve Breaston 1006 yards 3 TDs

I believe the comparison is closer than you perceive.

no he didn't.

It won't let me link, but go search for the original thread for "Paris Lenon signed"... a lot of people said it was an awful signing, he was a corpse, and would be lucky to stick as a backup/special teams player.

I don't think Lenon is a great player and would definitely support upgrading at the position and using him as the 3rd ILB, but I do think he exceeded the exepctations that most people had when he was signed (that doesn't mean he was great or anything).

Obviously this is not going to be a popular opinion, but I think this would be a sensational signing by the Cardinals.

He would be a a perfect SILB in a 3-4. He has the size, the strength and the smarts.

Biggest problem is that he has been injured. He lost his job due to injury but before that was the center piece of the Eagles defense and a leader.

I have been touting this guy since the end of last year, when I saw he would be a free agent.

I think if we were to bring him in, we would be pleasantly surprised.

I would be extremely happy if they signed Bradley.

6'4" 258lbs and 27 years old. If he stays healthy he could be our SILB for the next 5 years.

I am actually kind of shocked because when I mentioned Breaston amidst all the gnashing of teeth at Bradley. It wasn't a trap for Breaston supporters (which I am). I hadn't done any research. I just thought they sounded awfully similiar in situation.

Kind of funny how close they mirror each other on opposite ends of the field.

That is surprising. I don't think Breaston is as bad as Cheese thinks I think he is, but production seems comparable, kinda sorta.

one guy's missed 20 games the last two years while being pretty unproductive... one guy missed 3... and was gone on the first day of FA. It's not close BY A MILE.

Why sign a proven, durable performer when you can have a guy with the phrase "if healthy" in every positive scenario.

He played 12 games last year and was terrible. Was he "unhealthy"? Do inside LBs often recover once they start getting concussions? I'm not positive, but that position requires some contact I think.

You're mostly right, I just think he's not the guy you bring in to start on a winning team, especially to replace Dansby, a rare talent.

Welcome to the board.

How is one guy, Breaston, missing a handful of games ( < 5) and being a contributor when he played similar to a guy who missed more than half the games the last two years and a non-factor on the field?

Agreed.

But he is still only 27 years old, 3 years in the league, and its his first injury.

If we are going to write off young players that got hurt once in their career and were not productive enough, then there should be a thread calling for the release of Beanie Wells.

Just sayin'

The point is that this team was an embarrassment last year, we supposedly have all this salary cap space, and yet these guys are still shopping from the Scratch & Dent pile.

There are impact players available and they're kicking the tires on garbage and wondering "Well if we put some new paint on it, maybe it'll look good."

Maybe the Suns medical staff can work on him. They have done wonders rehabbing injured players. Sadly I'm half serious with the NBA lockout.
