Anyone who sites cap space as a limiting factor when it is not a Clowney type player is acting the fish. The cap only limits people when they want to be limited.

Depends on how they structure it.

Drake counts for 8.4 million but if he is signed to a deal, his cap charge could be 5m this year like Ekeler.

We don't know how Jordan Phillips is getting paid other than 10m average. Brockers signed the same deal (3/30) and his cap charge is 5m in 2020.

Those two deals alone give us back 8.4m (5m + 3.4m), which is enough to get another 3/30m guy at 5m cap and another similar type contract (3/24?) as well at 3.4m.

That doesn't take into account any restructuring of current contracts or cuts.

Maybe Fitz wants to stay on for 1 more year and will convert salary into bonus and get paid less than 11m next year?

I am sure we have a plan with so many holes left to fill.
Sounds like you know a hell of a lot more about this than me. Good. I hope you're right? We still have many holes on this team.

The more i look at our roster and this draft class, the more i wonder if Kirk may get dealt. Obviously the return is a big factor, but Kingsbury has no real tie to him, i dont think we are likely to re-sign him to a big deal, and it is a loaded draft class.

Pure speculation in this when perusing our roster.

I've been saying it since the trade for Hopkins. He's our best tradeable asset.

Especially for the people who want to acquire another pick to maneuver in the draft.

We only save 400k by trading Kirk and I don't think we would get value back for him.

I want to see him on this team

And very expensive.

Without a doubt, but it does not matter. It is not my money, and the salary cap is irrelevant.

Not to go into boring details, but with the approval of the new CBA, the salary cap will increase even further. It is up ten million from last year, and teams already not approximately how much it will rise to next year. And from there on it will increase every year, at least for the next ten years until the CBA runs out.

Don’t worry about the salary cap. You are using unnecessary energy speculating on something that is not important at all.

Trumaine Johnson is a FA now.

Do.not.want.

I've looked and haven't been able to find an answer but does anyone know if he is related to the Trumaine Johnson who played WR for the Arizona Wranglers of the USFL?

We have anywhere from $5-10 million left depending on the structure of Phillips deal.

We have no backup QB, placed a RFA tender on Gonzalez that could cost $3.5 million and need room for the incoming draft class.

Going to have to get very "creative" or we are done already.

over the cap show $15mm, pending the Phillips deal

it includes Hopkins as well as the tenders for Gonzales and Murray

Okay fair enough but to be honest the tenders are the smallest part at around $4 million, draft class is probably going to be over $5 million and I would assume the same for Phillips especially if they want to cover themselves from dead money in the future.

I don't think Hopkins cap hit will come down this year even if we get an extension

Can't they restructure and do a new deal.with Hopkins. Could clear 7-9 million.

Last offseason, we were looking to this offseason as the great rebuild because...well, first of all because we sucked, but also because we were supposed to have all this extra cap space. So far we've signed, what, one free agent and also made a trade that supposedly freed us up a ton of cap space. Now I'm to believe we have no cap space left BEFORE accounting for that ONE free agent, AFTER freeing up the DJ space? WTF?

Fitzgerald ($11m) Humphries ($15m) Drake ($8m) Gonzalez ($3m+, Murray ($1m-) were FA.

Hopkins makes $2m more than DJ and we took a $6m dead money hit.

It adds up!

Jones has a $16 million salary this year, a portion of that can be converted to bonus to free up space. Also Hicks and Pugh have $6 and $7 million salaries and 3 yrs left on their contracts so they would be candidates for converting salary to bonus. Yes its kicking the can down the road, but we'll cross that bridge then, eh?

lower I think

likely by half

no 2nd rounder

no #40 so we are down to $6.3mm

but after that -- keep in mind each rookie signed pushes a league minimum player of $750k out of the top 51. So -- the third round pick of $787k really only adds $37k to the cap ($787k-$750k minimum)

so really: cap hit is closer to $3.8mm
