I saw this in another UA message board site and I wanted to get the opinion of the ASFN posters. How do you feel about Stoops? Here is what was said on the other board (http://pointguardu.com/threads/53860-A-few-thoughts-on-Stoops.....):

"Love him or hate him, a few things are obvious:

-This man has no concept of clock management. We consistently burn 2 out of 3 timeouts within 5 minutes of the half. We burn timeouts on 1st down. We burn timeouts after turnovers. We burn timeouts after big plays. Do not be surprised if during some game down the line we are down late and driving to win the game but don't have any timeouts to stop the clock.

-He's a little too emotional...or is he? He consistently blows a gasket on bad calls. He wastes timeouts challenging plays he WISHES had gone the other way. He spends too much time lamenting the previous play rather than looking ahead. But on the other hand, as a player you have to get motivated by a coach who is 10 yards out on the field, a coach who is spitting expletives onto the referee, a coach who greets you with a huge smile and slap on the helmet when you've done something right.

-This man knows how to develop players. How else do you explain 3 star Antoine Cason (who UCLA and USC decided to pass on even though he played in their backyard) became a Thorpe award winner. Nick Foles transferred from Michigan St (not exactly a football powerhouse) and has become the most accurate QB in school history. Justin Washington (find him in the 2009 class, just look for the lowest ranked player in the class) has logged 3 sacks as a DT in 3 games, 2 vs Iowa's credited offensive line....He's a RS Freshman btw. Brooks Reed has gone from a local star RB to one of the most feared DE's in the conference. His equal counterpart, Ricky Elmore, was ignored by the Cali schools. Derek Earls is from ND! How did they find him?! List goes on and on (trevin wade, michael johnson, spencer larson, etc...)

-This guy knows to surround himself with great coaches. Coaches who know how to teach...Mike Leach, Mark Stoops, Tim Kish, Greg Brown, Frank Scelfo, Bill Bedenbaugh, Mike Tuiasosopo, Seth Littrell

-And finally....this guy will leave for greener pastures. It hasn't happened yet because AZ hasn't been nationally recognized at a time when a major job has opened up. What happens if UA goes to its first Rose Bowl and Mark Richt is fired? Or Rich Rodriguez? Games are just now starting to sell out, after three consecutive winning seasons. This guy is intense and to tell the truth, the school's and fan's support is a step behind. Even with the stadium expansion we are well below most PAC-10 school's facilites, not to mention SEC country where they seat 90,000+. Anyone who has been to the games can tell you that it's a fair weather crowd and if we were to lose a few in a row, the crowds would dissipate.

So all things considered, this man has a winning formula. And as someone who has waited 12 yrs for fall sports at UofA to be relevant, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR GRANTED!!! Get out and show your support! Make Tucson a place to be for football as well as basketball! I, for one, am tired of saying 'Wait til Basketball Season!' We have a winning fb team...for god's sake act like it!"

I for one am a big fan of Stoops. Sometimes his play calling has been flat out wrong. But for what we paid for, and for the horrible situation that the program was in when he took over, I don't think we could have done much better. He wasn't a quick fix, he's actually successfully rebuilding the program. I give him a solid A- overall.

Your thoughts?

- Poor game manager but has improved from a few years ago where he was atrocious.

- His players love him and play like him. Fiery and with a chip on their shoulder but often out of control and on edge.

- He is very well-connected in the college coaching world. His assistants are very good to the point where if Arizona puts together some successful season the program is well positioned to make a national impact recruiting. This isn't some good old boys club or nepotistic free for all like up in Tempe.

- Don't think he'll leave. He wouldn't make it through the vetting process of a lot of schools and he hasn't won enough to justify a big-name program hiring him unless it's replacing his bro at OU. Not to mention too many people have been too loyal to him especially when 99% of schools would've canned him after his 2007 season. Plus, the facilities he wants built should be done in a couple of years. However if those get stalled I could see him probably bouncing.

- If he does leave, we'll be fine with Greg Byrne running the show to bring in someone else. My guess is Seth Littrell would at least garner an interview despite his age.

At this point I don't think Stoops would leave unless Iowa wised up and got rid of Ferentz. But they're not going to because they just extended him through 2015 at $3.5 mil per, quite possibly the most overpaid coach in the history of football.

Yeah I'm pretty confident Stoops will be our coach for awhile. Especially since he would want to bask in his creation a bit after saving us from the brink AND it looks like Byrne will be a kick-ass AD who will build up the football facilities (something Stoops has been asking for).

He argues and complains more than any coach in history as well.

There can be no denying what Mike Stoops has accomplished at Arizona. He took over one of the worst FBS programs in the nation and has slowly built a very solid program. I think Arizona is a contender again this year for the Pac10 crown along with Oregon and Stanford. With USC out of the picture the next 2 years, now is the perfect time for Arizona to make a push for their first Rose Bowl.

I think a conference championship probably won't happen because this staff doesn't seem to know how to use Grigsby. I know he has fumble problems, but good grief, get him some more touches in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, and use more than two or three plays for him. That guy could be an all-conference back. I was shaking my head how much Arizona was passing with a lead against Iowa.

I was a bit surprised they didn't can Ferentz after '07 when he went 6-6 and was coming off years with back to back mediocre records and Bowl losses. But they certainly can't fire him now after going 9-4, 11-2 and being ranked high early this year.

I don't think Iowa is a super hard place to win, but its not easier either. Youll always have OSU and Michigan in your conference and the state of Iowa doesn't produce hardly any D-1 talent, so you've got to import a lot.

Its probably in their best interest to heed the "one in the hand is better than 2 in the bush" philosophy, they know what they have with Ferentz, a guy who gets them to a good bowl most every year and 2 BCS Bowls in a decade. I know as ASU fans we sure as heck wouldn't complain about that.

Don't forget that starting next year they also have to compete with Nebraska. There are even fewer people in Nebraska than in Iowa, yet they have managed to produce some of the greatest football teams in history.

Iowa is paying Ferentz NFL money because they know that's who their competing with for his services. Iowa is one of 5 times I know of who pay based on the NFL market, but they do not get the same results and Alabama, USC, Florida or Notre Dame.

I guess the going rate for 8 or 9 wins in Iowa is just much higher than the rest of the country. I will say there's something to be said for stability.
