Any suggestions for a possible trade down situation if we receive a top 2 pick? Or maybe a trade out of the draft entirely? I know that's probably an unpopular idea and I'm not advocating anything but for discussions sake I was wondering what a top 2 pick in this type of draft is worth on the open market? What kind of established player is it worth or what dead weight contacts could we shed? Or maybe we would trade down to #5 or #6 for something worthwhile? Again, I'm not advocating anything. I thought it could be fun to consider what our new found wealth could bring us.

Another scenario is what if we get #2 pick? Would we consider trading up to #1? What would it take to move up one slot? Or would we even care that much?

The only way I would consider a minor trade down with the Suns pick, is if the Suns could get a top five pick and another first round pick or player in return.

Then the Suns would look to package picks to move back into the top seven picks.

I'm definitely against passing on Ayton if he is there.

Carter and Young would be a nice draft.

I would not trade down from the #1 pick. Just take Ayton and don't get cute.
If we got the #3 or 4 pick and we thought we could get Young with 6 or 7, I might consider it, but it would have to be a guaranteed situation.

I guess I am agreeing with you then. We can't get our hopes up though. The Suns never win 50-50 draws. Our chances of getting Ayton are one in four.

Yes, we are agreeing. Now the Suns need some luck.

If the Suns draft #2 maybe some team makes a crazy offer for this pick. I'd listen.

I might be more in favor of making a crazy offer to move up one and take Ayton. I would give up #2, #16, #31, and the Milwaukee pick to move up from #2 to #1. Maybe a team that is debating between Ayton and Doncic would take that.

I'd definitely look at making such an offer but finding a team that would do it is probably unlikely.

Nurkic is not worth max money. You can't afford to pay players like Nurkic that kind of money and keep your cap in order. The key to success in the NBA is making sure your max players can actually play like max players.

Nailed it. Not to mention, I dont think you want to build with Nurkic as a piece without some quality defenders around him. Especially a guy who can cover behind him, because teams are going to pull him into high ball screens like crazy.

Ive never been a fan, but I do like bigs who can pass and rebound.

Let me dig myself into a hole. The Suns could do far worse than keep Len. I think he is a serviceable center but he needs to start. The Suns did not do him any favors by asking more of him than he was able to deliver... rebound and play defense. And the revolving door thing with Chandler starting... it would have to go.

If a player is merely "serviceable" and needs to start to attain that level of play... then you probably don't want him at all.

The idea that Len is a plus defender is unbacked by any stat or metric. He simply isn't good on that end, well... either end for that matter. Len is solid on the glass, at every other aspect of the game he is somewhere between trash and dumpster fire.

Nurkic is clearly the better player and Portland suffers when he is out of the game, especially defensively. But... that said... I wouldn't shell out big bucks for him either.

If the only options were Nurkic on a near max deal or Len as a starter... then you're screwed either way.

I prefer Nurkic over Len but I'm not ready to pay Nurkic near max. So yes, then maybe we would be screwed either way.

I do think think Len would be serviceable if not better if he started. Len has not had a stable situation to advance his career. They have not played him to his strength until last season. IMO, he would be a better player if the Suns had not played the merry-go-round routine at center.

I think the Suns are ready to move on from Len and hopefully he will be given the chance to start for another team. However, if the Suns could retain him for reasonable money, I'd keep him.

Len just isn't good. Forget, starting, not starting... whatever. He simply lacks talent on the court. If a guy is a terrible offensive player and, at best, mediocre on defense... and he can only attain those levels of play if he is gifted the starters job... then it's a problem.

I wouldn't mind keeping him, but only on a really small salary and only as a backup. If he has any future in the league then he needs to learn how to play off the bench because he's never going to be a heavy contributor on a decent team.

We better hope the Suns draft a center. LOL

I hope we draft Ayton, but I think there are any number of guys who can be signed on the cheap that will impact the game as much as Len does. He is a below replacement level player. He might put up some decent stats on occasion but his actual impact on the scoreline is rarely positive.

I don't know if I want the Suns to throw huge dollars at Capela. Anyone in particular you like?

I'm not talking huge dollars or trying to snag a good player off another roster, I'm merely looking at it from the perspective of "do we have a big hole at center if Len leaves?" No... we have a hole at center already.

No one in free agency excites me so the Suns would need to draft or trade for a center.

I'm not sure about Williams' knee and Chandler should be a backup at this stage of his career.

This is why McDonough says center is a big need for the Suns.

I am a huge Dragic fan, but he is already 32. I mean, getting him for the Miami pick would be getting him for nothing so I'd probably do it. I am also not one of the "Everyone has to be under 25" crowd that we have here, but he is 32. He is not going to get any better, and he is a player that does rely on his quickness, so I don't think he will reinvent himself to be effective for the next five years. If the Suns just want to get into the playoffs, sure, grab Dragic, but if they are really building for 2-3 years from now, Dragic is not the right player to trade for.

Yeah, I agree, it is a need for sure, and Len being on or off the roster does not change the need. I don't think he should even be a factor when the Suns are looking at the future front court.

I do think Len is better than no center for match-up purposes. If the opposing team goes big the Suns need someone to occupy space underneath the basket.

What I'm saying is Len is better than Chandler and Williams.

Something is better than nothing.

I'd be ok trading for Dragic if we drafted Doncic. Let them work together in Luka's first year and get him ready to take over the starting role. He only has 2 years left on his contract and one of those is a player option. I don't think he would opt out but if things went sour he would. So there would be little risk in having him. I doubt Riley would make that trade unless it involved the Suns sending Miami both of their picks back, or including the Bucks pick with the Heat pick this year, and at that price I'd say no.

But something good is better than 'something'. Especially if that 'something' has proven to be inconstant, whether starting or coming off the bench at Center.

Especially if the 'nothing' alternative to which you refer results ultimately in the Seattle Suns. That might be the 'nothing'.

It sounds like you're tricking your mind into finding peace with the status quo. But look where it has gotten us.

To paraphrase the old saying, "Some men see things as they are and ask 'why?'. I (want to) see things that never were and ask 'why not?'.

My thing is an NBA well rounded basketball roster . . . and leadership.

Maybe a prototypical center is not the answer.
