PFT has a story from Bloomberg saying Directv is dropping the cost of NFL Sunday Ticket to $200 this season. All I can say is it's about time. With the bad economy and the diluting of the product with all the Thursday night games on NFLN, they finally woke up and smelled the coffee.

They may very well gain in new subscribers what they lose from the lower price IMO.

ST is $199.95 which includes the games and mix channel.

ST MAX is $299.95 includes RedZone, To-Go and player tracker.

$100 more for RedZone? I'll go back to negotiating with them and get it free again like I do every year.

Well red zone is the best station and they know the majority of people are watching red zone unless their team is on. They are gonna do an early brid thing wear the 199 package will break down to 6 payments of 32 bucks, girl just told me about it yesterday when I upgraded my package.

I don't get direct tv, but I thought I remember hearing that there are difference prices between HD and SD. Not sure on that. But if so, I wonder if that is for the HD package, or just the regular?

I stopped paying for that 2 yrs ago when I learned I could stream any game I want for free on my pc. I am now considering dropping Direct TV altogether and just put up an HD antenna for free TV. San Diego has 11 free HD channels. It has all just gotten out of hand with the wasted expenses, cable/satellite, cell phones, internet. I have decided to keep my high speed internet which is the least expensive, and do away with most other. I use Ooma now for my home phone which costs only about $3.50 for taxes each month. I keep a prepaid cell in my car in case of an emergency...that costs me only $100 per year for 1000 minutes which I don't even use, but want for safety.

I just sold my second car to save $70 per month insurance too. Did away with Netflix, and even stopped paying a dollar a day on soda. I would rather just have that extra couple hundred dollars each month to eat out at a nice restaurant or get out of the house more.

Every month when I get my cable/phone/internet bill, I think about doing what you did. Congrats

It looks like I have to give up my DirecTv this year because I am moving to an apartment that won't give a clear view of the Southern sky. Boooo.

Would anyone who doesn't use their "To Go" access be interested in letting me watch the games online? I would obviously pay the extra $100 fee.

Does anyone know if I have to call them to get my service lowered to the $200 package? I don't really care about Red Zone. I just watch another game or the mix channel when the Cards aren't on.

I was checking their siute regarding this as well. The FAQ answer was : "Like all our sports subscriptions, NFL SUNDAY TICKET automatically renews each season at the lowest full-season price available"

Based on my history with them, I guess I'll know once the first billing hits my account.

All they did this year was slash it to the price they normally give everyone who calls and complains. I don't know how much they will take off the price from what it is now. Can't really call and say I can't afford it since you increased the price from last year.

I called a few weeks ago and they said that I was already scheduled for the $200---I think you have to call to get the Red Zone and other upgrades added.

I ran into a Directv salesman the other day. He couldn't believe I saved over a $100 a month switching to ATT Uverse. I miss the Sunday ticket but that's a lot of jack.

Most of the savings came in phone service where we were getting gouged, by AT&T of course, for our home phone and our DSL line.

Still amazing when you get your bill and its $49.95 for all the services and $187.46 for taxes, fees and surcharges. It's like renting a car in PHX. $60 for the Car for 5 days and $212.00 more for taxes and fees. Of course I don't mind because a couple of dollars of that goes to Cardinals Stadium.

The NFL has squose everything they can from fans as often as possible. It is worth more to them if they cater to the Elte fans- in the short run-

But i haven't seen a top boxing match in decades - have vivid memories No Mas fight, Ali- Frazier Foreman and my favorite Larry Holmes before King killed boxing, their short run is over- boxing use to be as popular as football- it will never recover.

When does Direct TV lose its exclusivity?

Yep. I get the ticket for free every year. Just ask.

Here's the deal. It depends on how long you've been a customer, what packages you buy, what standing your account is in, etc. But DirecTV is always willing to throw the kitchen sink at you to stay.

The key is at the phone prompt to say "cancel service", this will connect you to customer retention. Tell them you want to walk, ask what they can do to keep you as a customer.

My dialog usually goes something like this:
Me: I'm ready to leave for cable.
DTV: What can we do to keep you as a customer?
Me: I like football.
DTV: How about Sunday ticket for half price?
Me: Decent, but I think I still want to leave.
DTV: How about Sunday ticket for free?

Literally a ten minute call.

I've done this and never pushed it so far as to get it free but I've gotten 1/2 price. I've had NFL for maybe 5 years and I don't have HBO or any other premium channels...just the HD stuff, so maybe that plays into it too.

Never. They'll never give it up. It's like asking when Madden will lose its exclusivity.

The Ticket is the one thing that DIRECTV has as a bludgeon to keep its consumers. They'll pay anything to make sure that they keep it.

I have never threatened to leave for cable. I always ask them if I can get that same deal that new subs are getting. Sometimes it takes two or three phone calls, but that gets it done.

I just called on Wednesday and got it for free this year - cost me a 1 year commitment, but well worth it

Let them know I was unhappy with the cost, broke down the savings I could get elsewhere and that I finally decided to deal with redzone for $20 and nfl rewind for $40 as opposed to sunday ticket for $300

Also let them know that I wasn't particularly happy that I live in AZ and can't watch the ASU football game - not to mention the viacom situation this summer

Now I have a hybrid of both packages - I don't have the mobile service (although they said they could work something out with me if I needed it), but I do have redzone and some of the other perks

Lady was very nice - she started to tell me about a couple options as she was pulling me account up and then simply stated, I can give it to you for free this year ......... sold
