I check probably ten times a day to see if the Black Cats have signed McShane, Barnes, Baird, Richardson etc. I don't understand what the hold up is.

Are we going into the season with just Ward and Fulop? I'm not sold on Ward and Keane doesn't seem to have much confidence in Fulop. I'm getting a bit concerned.

we have had 8mil knocked back for Gordon who plays for Hearts in Scotland. i bit unproven but looks a the real deal so we might increase to offer!

the news today is that we have bid £5 million for Chopra  (signed for Cardiff from Newcastle for £500,000 a season ago) and loves to wind SAFC up and to be honest i just dont like him the little geordie ***** bag!

I was just about to come on here and post that article for you. I spotted it because he's an old Magpie. He didn't do much with us, but he never really had much of a chance. Not sure how he did in Cardiff, or how he'd do with you guys if you signed him.

Hey, I hate Arsenal, Man U., and Chelsea, but if Henri had been willing to come play for my beloved Newcastle, I would have welcomed him with open arms. Chopra is no Henri, granted, but judge him as a player first and foremost.

Chopra had 22 goals in 42 appearances for Cardiff, so he would be a welcome addition. If Keano wants him, that's good enough for me.

As long as he puts the ball in the back of the net, that's all I care about.

I don't know why, but I seem to be spotting Sunderland stories all of a sudden. Unfortunately for you guys, this is a bad story.

Fulham sign N.Ireland international Baird

Fulham have signed Southampton's Northern Ireland defender Chris Baird in a £3.25million deal.

The 25-year-old, who had been tipped to join Sunderland, has agreed a four-year deal at Craven Cottage.

Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez told the club's official website: 'I'm delighted that Chris has chosen to join Fulham despite interest shown by other clubs.'

The news of Fulham's move for the player comes as a surprise after Southampton revealed they had agreed a fee with Sunderland earlier in the week.

Baird, has risen through the ranks at Southampton and, after loans at Walsall and Watford, established himself in the first team under manager George Burley.

He has earned 25 caps for Northern Ireland since 2003, most of them under former national team boss Sanchez.

Sanchez added: 'I am well aware of Chris' attributes as a player from my time with Northern Ireland and his qualities and versatility will be a major asset for the club next season.

'Winning the Southampton player of the season award last year is testament to his continued progress and development, which I have seen first hand at international level.

'Chris becomes my second defensive signing following the arrival of Aaron Hughes and both players provide some much needed strength to our defence.'

Quinn and Keane's strategy of not rushing into the transfer market doesn't seem to be paying dividends. It seems like they may be low-balling some of their targets on wages.

Frustrating because the squad they have now is really going to struggle to stay up this season.

It's always a struggle to stay up, and yeah, I guess it will be harder if you can't get the guys you need.

Look at the bright side, though. There's always a team or so in the top flight that absolutely bombs and ends up fighting relegation. If you can managed to squeak out a few quality wins, you can survive. If you survive, you can build on it using all the new revenue. There's always hope.

 LOL

i looks like we are getting Chopra by the way - what a way to waste 5 mil!

looks like Tevez is going to Man utd tonight by the way - great signing if they can get the contract ******** sorted out.

I don't know about Chopra. He didn't really get a chance at Newcastle, he's still young, and he apparently tore it up at Cardiff. Give him a shot.

Of course, adding Chopra won't stack up against Owen, Martins, and Viduka, but still...sorry, had to slip it in :)

Chopra is nearly as overrated as Nugent is IMO. I just hope Fulham are stupid enough to pay Leeds £2m for Healy.

looks like a fee agreed of 5.5millon to take Richardson from Man Utd - would be a good signing:)
That's great if it gets done. The Black Cats need a guy like Richardson who has proven himself in the Prem and with England.

I'd like to see Sunderland get Craig Gordon too, but Hearts are crazy if they think they will get £10million for him.

I don't know Richardson. Anybody have any more info on him?

Kieran Richardson came up through Manchester United's youth system to play with the first team. He's made 41 appearances for the Red Devils and scored twice. In 2005 he played in the EPL on loan to West Brom and scored three goals in 12 appearances as WBA avoided the drop on the last day of the season.

Richardson has also played 8 games with England's senior national team and scored two goals. If he moves to Sunderland he will play on the left side of the midfield. He is a very promising player who is still only 22 years old.

I didn't realize you were talking about THAT guy. Oh, he'd be a major, major coup of you guys signed him. So, I have to hope you don't. Sorry. I want you guys to stick around in the top flight, but not actually beat us :)

Like Bill Simmons last summer, I've become really enamored with soccer the last couple years. I'm looking for an EPL league team to follow closely.

I met some Liverpool fans in the French Rivera this summer. They might have swayed me, but I'm not sure I want to pick one of the big clubs.

Go for Newcastle United, mate. The Magpies are an underdog, because we flat-out sucked last season, but we have a strong squad (tons of injuries last season), we strengthened with transfers, we have a top-notch coach, and we have the $$$ to compete with big clubs. Don't jump on the Liverpool bandwagon. They're already a huge team. Go with an underog, mate...go Newcastle!

I was actually watching a replay of Newcastle and Tottenham from last December the other day. I was impressed by some of their talent especially in the midfield. I will take them under consideration.

Yeah, they added Joey Barton and re-signed Milner at the midfield. Up front, Owen and Ameobi are healthy again, Martins is still there, and we've added the world-class striker Viduka. Our defense stunk, but we've dropped some dead weight, and picked up Geremi from Chelsea and Rozehnal, the Czech international, from PSG (Paris Saint Germain). Dyer, Carr, and Duff should all be fit by now as well. Overall, defense will still be our weak point, but our midfield should be able to hold the ball well and provide service for our excellent strikers. We may give up some goals, even with the stellar Given at goal, but we will score...A LOT.

Don't go for Liverpool, I can't stand Liverpool fans. If you have to pick a Premiership one (REAL football is in League one with Leeds! Well, at least until we come back up) go for Arsenal.
