Gotta have the three points this Saturday against Wigan.

would be nice but its the FA Cup this weekend mate.

a good win wouls boost the team though and who knows if we get a few decent draws in the next few rounds..

Evans has been signed on loan until the end of the season today too.

Oh yeah.

Good to see Evans signed. Higginbotham and McShane aren't getting it done lately.

Better hope that Keane stays in good grace with Man U and maybe you guys can get Brown, Fletcher (Please take him) and possibly Carrick.... those alone would help get you out of the drop zone...

i thought he was doing a great job too ;)

'Sky sports understand that the skunks have not yet spoken to Anal Shearer yet' ...its like saying they havent spoken to Pele, or Jesus for that matter.

A few of my mag mates will be chuffed with Sam getting the boot though to be fair.

Man, it sure does suck to underachieve and only be sitting middle of the table...I wonder what it would feel like to do as good as we could and yet keep getting relegated ;)

Seriously though, I thought he got the axe rather unfairly. He took over a complete mess, didn't even get a full season, and had a buttload of injury problems. Too soon, too soon. Of course, if Shearah will step in immediately, I'm cool with it :)

Sure, Robbie. He signed with Derby County because he didn't want to move his household. If he cared about staying in the Prem. he would have signed with Sunderland.

The Cats will be in a fight for survival, but they still have a fighting chance to stay up. Derby is going down, guaranteed. Enjoy The Championship next year, Rob!

great result yesterday - happiest i have been coming away from the SOL for while i can tell you.

every player seemed to be up for the fight yesterday and it showed. Jones was a beast even though he was only about 3% fit.

the mags lost 6-0 too what a great weekend ;)

Jean-Yves Mvoto of France

Sunderland have completed the signing of French centre-back Jean-Yves Mvoto from Paris St-Germain.
The 19-year-old defender has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Stadium of Light.
Manager Roy Keane told the club's official website: 'Jean is one for the future. 'We've seen a lot of him and he's a strong centre-back who will be a good addition to our squad.' [+]

Kevin Keegan has been appointed as manager of Newcastle United for the second time in his career. Keegan, 56, has signed a three and a half year contract at St James's and was there to watch a rejuvenated Newcastle Utd beat Stoke City 4-1 in the FA Cup, but may have to do without Alan Shearer as his assistant as the former striker admitted he did not envisage being Keegan's number two.

I'm stoked (tee hee) that Keegs is back in charge...man, will we start to light it up! I'm disappointed that Shearah isn't back in the mix, but someday...someday. At least Shearah is thrilled that Keegs is back in charge.

its time to get all the old songs dusted off from 11 years ago.

'LOVE IT IF WE BEAT THEM.....LOVE IT' (for those that dont know it why not search you tunbe for a Denny Green type 'crown their ass' interview) - what an arse that man is/was.

Until their next home loss. :D Seriously, these back-to-the-past hirings rarely work out.

I recall not too long ago that the Mags were doing back flips over Big Sam and he didn't even last one season.

SAFC fans delighted Keegan's back at Newcastle
Kevin Clark
Sunderland Echo

Sunderland fans today had their say on the return of Kevin Keegan to St James's Park – and they could not be happier.

Wearsiders said they are over the moon today after Newcastle reappointed their former boss, but not for the same reasons as their Tyneside rivals.

Martyn McFadden, editor of Sunderland fanzine A Love Supreme, said: "From a Sunderland fan's perspective, I'm delighted with the appointment.

"Newcastle have not won anything for 52 years. They wanted a manager who could win them trophies. I don't think Keegan has won anything in his managerial history.

"At the end, he did not achieve anything except to spend a lot of money."

Martyn reckons the appointment is a bid by owner Mike Ashley to appease the fans after the billionaire failed in his bid to persuade Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp to move north.

"I think it will keep the fans of Newcastle happy for a week," he said.
"In the past they have gone for people who are good managers, but they still have not done very well at Newcastle.

"I thought they would go for somebody who had achieved something, maybe a foreign manager."

Superfan Gary "Sunderland AFC" Lamb, from Seaham, described the Magpies' hotseat as "a poison chalice" and predicted Keegan would not be around for long.

"I think they have just gone for what the fans want," he said. "I'm not sure he is going to bring them success."

Black Cats legend Jimmy Montgomery was surprised by the appointment, but willing to give Keegan the benefit of the doubt.

Keegan, a former England boss, has been out of football for several years, but Jimmy reckoned comparisons with Sunderland's disastrous appointment of Howard Wilkinson are wide of the mark.

"I think the charisma of Keegan is a little bit more effective than Howard's, to say the least," he said.

"It will be interesting to see who Keegan gets in and whether he still has all that enthusiasm he had when he first came.

"The fans will love it, that is what they wanted, but we will just have to wait and see.

"They always say 'Never go back,' but I think time will tell."

Keegan's return is expected to boost NUFC's finances.

Vinay Bedi, of stockbrokers Brewin Dolphin, said: "There are not many managers, except possibly Jose Mourinho, who would have the same effect as the return of Keegan.

"I would imagine Newcastle will become a far more attractive proposition for the TV cameras, especially if they play the kind of football the last time he was here."

:D

Wow, I didn't realize Sunderland fans were so stupid :D Keegan did win in his managerial history--a lot. First, he took a team out of the Premiership, and on their way to being relegated down another step, and brought them back to the Premiership. That was his first year as a Magpie. His second year and first year in the Premiership, they finished third. After finishing sixth his third year, the Toon almost won the Premiership title. Yes, the collapse happened and Man U. won it, and Keegs subsequently resigned. Still and all, hardly a manager to laugh at, especially given how abysmal their own team is. Those in glass houses and whatnot.

As a Newcastle fan, I'm excited. Yeah, the guy ran when the going got tough (finishing in 2nd is tough, I guess), but he also had the most successful stint as manager in a long, long time. Without him, we would probably be back in the Championship. If his high-flying style can get us back near the top, with a chance at the title, I'm all for it.

Sorry, I just had to answer the idiotic ramblings of Sunderland fans who *supposedly* know football. I know you guys on here are way more informed, but the above idiots sounded like ******** children.

its the feeling amongst most sunderland supports to be fair (and one or too Newcastle fans - although not too many) and look at the national press it seems most fans of other clubs seem to see it as a backwards step too.

If he does what he did last time he was mamanger i will be chuffed to bits. ie win nothing, spend millions, walk out. In the process he wound up the teams youth development and withdrew the reserve team from the northern league. When he left your club not only did he win nothing he set is about 10 back in terms of youth development. This at a time when most clubs (and yes i include sunderland in this) were spending millions on youth academies up and down the country. I admit that i lost a lot of nights sleep whe you here was cracking under the pressure and losing that 13 point lead, and losing cup finals, semi finals and charity sheild games but in the end he won nothing and ripped a massive part of the club out too. Not all his own fault - not chairman in the world would have let this happen but Jon Hall, who was so far up Keegan back door it beggers beleif. Even hated chairman at newcastle like McKeag saw this was a massive mistake.

But the fans were happy and to your credit your could attract the money for players which made the impact less drastic.

One thing is has done is lift the city (which i live and work) spirits, this cant be a bad thing. Again i like to see you lot lose week in week out but i like the fact the its put a smile on freinds (and black sheep family -brother) faces.

and Keegan has made his first signing too ...... Shaun Wright-Phillips!

Hey, all I'm saying is that we enjoyed our greatest success under Keegan. He has proven, without a doubt, that he can make the Magpies a title contender. This time around, it isn't as drastic a rebuilding process, as he has some world-class players already in place. As long as he can handle the pressure this time, and not mortgage the team's future, this should be a great move. I cannot believe he didn't learn a thing from the mistakes he made before. I'm thrilled with the move, and I'm ready for us to finish better this year than we would have otherwise.
