The first Suns game of the summer league is about to begin. The Suns will play five games over one week. 2. Saturday, July 10, vs. Toronto Raptors, 1 p.m. (4 p.m. ET) | NBA TV broadcast live
  3. Monday, July 12, vs. NBA D-League Select, 5:30 p.m. | NBA TV broadcast July 13, 4 a.m. (7 a.m. ET)
  4. Wednesday, July 14, vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, 5:30 p.m. | NBA TV broadcast July, 15, 1 a.m. (4 a.m. ET)
  5. Thursday, July 15, vs. Golden State Warriors, 3 p.m. (5 p.m. ET) | NBA TV broadcast live

  • Marcus Johnson (F)
  • Scottie Reynolds (G)
  • Zabian Dowdell (G)
  • Ryan Toolso (G)
  • Brandon Johnson (G)

Clark pretty unimpressive so far. Aggressive but not hitting any shots.

Actually, no one looks good right now. Lawal had a couple of nice post moves that didn't go in.

He had a nice And 1 just now. I like his aggression so far. The comfort will come.

I know I'm gonna get burned for this cuz of the improvement seen by Dragic and Lopez their second year, but I'm afraid Clark has Alando Tucker written all over him.

Why hasn't Reynolds played yet? He looks to be behind perennial summer leaguer Dowdell and Matt Janning on the depth chart.

If your saying so because they both suck......well you still could have used a better analogy.

Earl has more size, talent, and overall ability in his pinkie then Tucker had in his body. I actually wish Clark had a little more of Tuckers grit to him, wheras Tucker just couldn't physically compete.

God Bless ASFN. But I actually saw this was on on a UA board cuz of Chase and Hill. This is a Suns/UA Alums best case scenario :)

Good question about Reynolds. Guards Matt Janning and Brandon Johnson seemed to play well. I like the way Johnson runs the PG position. Lawal looks like he has the athleticism to play play well. He really looks awesome on the break. He really put down that pass from Janning. He tries to challenge every shot. IMO, Clark still looks soft and keeps looking for the outside shot.

Lawal may not be a star but he sure looks a lot better out there than Earl Clark does.

Crappy guard play for the Suns...not an NBA player among them.

Lawal being strong in the post, working hard, and running the floor. Very solid.

This is such low level basketball it's hard to watch. Earl Clark is passive while that Russian guy seems to waste every possession.

Matt Janning plays with some smarts. I wouldn't count him out.

Lawal needs to hit his FTs. He really puts in the effort.

Clark looked awful. He keeps taking jump shots and missing. The coaching staff can't be happy with his decision making. Lawal looked good. He could potentially develop into a nice post player. Definitelly not afraid of taking the ball inside or contact. He played hard defensively too, but was no match for Jordan Hill. Matt Janning had a few nice plays, but no one else was impressive at all. Reynolds did not play.

Yeah, Clark has shown nothing other than perimeter jump shots, yuck. Suns got absolutely dominated inside, sadly will be a recurring theme for the time being.

Earl Clark was a real disappointment in this game. He scored some points but seemed to want to do everything from outside. If doesn't develop the mentality to at least try to score inside he is likely to be a bust. If I were the coaching staff I would make him take every shot inside until he develops some balance in his game.

The Houston Rockets summer league team is loaded with talent especially Jordan Hill.

Agreed. He shouldn't be allowed to take jump shots. Majerle needs to get in his ear.

Well, I think we're selling him short here. He didn't just shoot from the perimeter, he also managed to do it after the defense was set but still early in the shot clock. Oh, and they were out of his range most of the time too. Apparently, he has a gunner's menality and a weak outside shot that's complemented by poor shot selection. This guy is on his way (out of the league, that is).

Damn, Clark looked like a rookie out there - a bad rookie. Maybe he can shake it off, but right now he appears to be a terrible waste of a #14 pick.

Lawal, on the other hand, played hard and fairly well on both ends of the floor. His jumper needs a ton of work, but he looks to be motivated enough to do it. Jordan Hill schooled him a bit, but Hill is good so there's no shame in that.

I was disappointed not to see Reynolds in action... hopefully he gets a good stint in the next game. Dowdell looked the best of the guards that got in the game but thats not saying much - the announcers said he was perennial summer leaguer...

About 5 or 6 guys had some moments, but I didn't think anybody looked like an NBA player consistently. Best players for the Suns were Gani Lawal, Zabian Dowdell and Matt Janning. Earl Clark is a black hole--I only remember him passing it once and he forces everything. Gani was active and had some lapses, but it's his first "pro" game, so he is forgiven for that. I thought Janning was the most well-rounded player in the game, as far as an offensive game and defensive game. Probably not enough to stick with the Suns, but some team out there like the Clippers could probably use him.

As for Reynolds, my guess is that he'll get a lot of minutes in game #2.

Janning just finished playing for Boston's entry in their summer league and was coming off a good game last night, I think it was. They said 20 pts and some number of assists - didn't quite catch it. He made a few nice passes. We would be a good end of the bench guy for some team.

If Reynolds does not show much I think Janning deserves a strong look. Even then he deserves a strong look. He is listed at 6'4", can score and handle the ball. What impressed me the most was his composure.

Dang, I like summer league. :D

Here is a quote from Seth Pollack from Bright Side of The Sun dated 7-9-10.

Scottie Reynolds wasn't able to play due to an Achilles injury. It's uncertain whether he will play at all. Dwayne Collins continues to have the biggest hands I've ever seen, but he's not going to play here this week. He starts working out next week and hopes to come to Suns training camp ready to battle for a spot. It's a shame, it would have been fun to see Collins in this environment and certainly against bigger guys like Hill and Patterson who out-muscled Lawal.

It's unfortunate if fans don't get to see Scottie Reynolds or Dwayne Collins.

I don't think anyone espected Collins to play this summer.

I'm sorry to hear Clark played so poorly. He could be good someday, but I have yet to see any reason for the "rotation" projections. I never listed him in the totation in all my personnel analysis. I expect Hill to be here as long as Nash is, so we have a couple of years to wait before Clark matters..
