I have no idea why Nash did not shoot the 3 point shot at the end. It looked like he had a good look and he might have even gotten fouled if someone contested it. Clearly a mental error with the amount of time left on the clock.

R u kidding me? Ya feel bad for the guy, but he's expected to convert that 100% of the time. That was unnacceptable.

Amar'e missed a dunk at 2:16, and then missed one of the free throws. If you are talking missed dunks....

Also, where was Dudley or any Sun on the rebound in case Richardson missed? We could have just as easily had an easy put back.

yuma, ain't nothing as easy an an uncontested dunk in the open court, not a dunk while fouled (which is what happened to Amare), not a put-back (which would have been anything but easy considering the only person trailing JRich at that point was Ginobli). Once in a while, there ARE games where you can just say "that play was the difference in the game"... there aren't many of them, but you can bet your bottom dollar today was one of them, and just another one in the (unfortunately for us) rich history of the Spurs beating us in the most unfamthomable ways possible.

How many different ways can the Spurs own the Suns?

Sun Feb 28,2010 3:31 PM ET By Matt Moore

The Suns have won their fair share of regular season games against the Spurs over the past five years. It's not like they've never won against the Spurs. It just feels like it.

Jason Richardson missed a wide-open (and I mean WIDE OPEN) breakaway dunk to tie, and Steve Nash randomly passed up on a tying three pointer with no time left and the Spurs once again topped the Suns in a late season game', 113-110.

Richardson, a two-time dunk champion, looked stunned even as he was coming down as his one-handed attempt rimmed out and fell to the waiting arms of the Spurs. The Suns needed a steal, got one by doubling and rotating effectively (not something they do terribly well), then got the outlet to Jason Richardson, who went up, and just... missed.

Now, he could have put two hands on the ball. Players miss dunks all the time. A perfect dunk doesn't even touch rim. But seriously. A two-time dunk champion, and one of the better players in the league misses a wide-open, break-away dunk to tie? How does that happen?

It's Suns-Spurs. Obviously.

This is the same rivalry that's featured Steve Nash being kept out of the final minutes of a playoff game because of a nosebleed caused by accidental contact that couldn't be stopped. The same perennial battle that's seen Tim Duncan hit his first three pointer of the 2008 season to win a playoff game.

No matter what happens, the result is always the same in the ones that seem to matter the most. You have to wonder if there's some sort of greater force at work. No matter how unlikely the event needed, they seem to occur , and they always seem to fall against the Suns. Even this year's Spurs team, which is far from the dominant squad it was at the height of this rivalry, somehow finds a way to topple Amaré Stoudemires 41 and 12.

Nash's dish was just as inexplicable. After the pass, Nash seemed to be frustrated at something Channing Frye failed to do. Whether it was drifting closer to Nash to have time for the shot, or drifting to the perimeter for the range they needed to tie, Frye did neither, and the time expired.

Nash had a wide open shot, after nailing one to give them an opportunity to tie, and passed it up. How does that occur?

Meanwhile for the Spurs, a great overall game that maybe they can use as the better-late-than-never game to turn the tide on this season.

Where does this loss leave us now? If we lose again to Denver tomorrow, do we drop out of Playoff contention?

You can also bet your bottom dollar it wont be the last time a dunk will be missed in the NBA. imo this loss is not as painful like the usual loss to the Spurms. The Suns shot poorly but we see flashes of good defense that didn't allow this to be a blow-out. We did not have Barbosa and hopefully he comes back 100% and in shape by post-season.

Pop with some kind words....

Popovich, on the Suns' offense: "It's the most awesome offensive collection they've had. That combination of Stoudemire and (Robin) Lopez rolling to the bucket and the opportunities they have on the outside is absolutely scary."

Popovich, on the Suns' defense: "They are more defensively minded than they have been in the past. It shows in a lot of their games. Alvin and his staff have done a great job of making them believe in expanding their games to the defensive end."

That's how it seemed to me. Frye was calling for the ball as he approached the 3pt line, but just kept drifting towards the basket as Nash passed it to him. Mental mistake by Frye I think.

Amare always has big games against the Spurs, mostly by design. They'd rather take the 3pt shooters out of the game and let the Suns have the inside.

But, geesh, all the missed free throws is what sealed the loss IMO.

This loss was a little painful but the key is that the Suns are being competitive. I'm happy with that.. the 15 point leads washed away into losses were more pathetic.

I friggin hate the Spurs. Please Suns don't lose to them anymore.....

We had a good game. Not great but good. JRich played good aside from the crucial missed dunk. Gentry adjusted by putting JRich in with the bench in the 2nd half instead of Hill, with a much better result. We lost it partially because TD scored at will against Lopez one-on-one.

Amare has been inconsistent with his midrange jumpers, as with his FTs. Spurs gameplanned to shut out our 3pt shooters in the 4th and Amare punished them by beasting up in the paint.

The Suns shot poorly? They shot 51% from the field and 8/15 from the 3.

Earlier in the game they did, with our front line of Amare, Lopez and Grant missing their shots. Usually, when they have poor shooting quarters like those they get blown out but they stayed competitive until they started making their shots.

In this game, it's pretty simple. Make our free throws, and we win. Period.

Amen. Plus, Lopez and Amre shot like **** in the first half, but turned it around in the second half. I think it was just a nerves thing for us early on. Maybe next game it won't be that bad.
