The Philly complaint about Holmes was that he was tough and energetic but not smart, but he has been good for us. He is filling a PJ Tucker type of role.
He's been a pleasant surprise on offense. I thought he was only good for dunks but he's got a serviceable little hook and a decent touch on floaters around the rim. As long as he can set good hard picks and roll hard he'll have opportunities on offense.

I like how he rolls hard and quick, especially when Crawford has the ball.

To those who somehow still believe Igor Kokoskov deserves more time here:

Will you change your tune if he goes right back to starting Canaan and benching Bridges (as he did in Chicago)?

No. For all we know Booker is pissy when told he has to start at point.

I don't care who starts. I care who gets minutes. Like it or not Canaan is going to get minutes on this team till we come up with a better replacement.

Everybody saying Okobo can't be worse than Canaan are dead wrong. He is. He definitely has more potential, but he is not as good now. He should get some time, but not against top competition.

Canaan can at least some nights hit the three.

The line up had to get settled first. Then we can figure out how to work Okobo and Melton in.

Not anymore, and his defense is atrocious, as is his passing. Frankly, Canaan is doing his best impersonation of preseason Shaq Harrison. Now, I do feel a lot of that is Canaan never being the same after the injury, and I feel bad for him in that respect, but every minute he plays he is doing nothing but hurting the team. If Okobo isn't ready, then bring in someone off the street, who would also contribute more than Canaan.

Under Igor Kokoskov, I am afraid the line-up will NEVER be settled, other than veterans being gifted playing time they don't deserve.

In any event, it is pretty darn obvious where to work Okobo and Melton in. Canaan is useless. His minutes need to be reduced to zero.

I also believe making a change would be a horrible idea for this franchise that has no continuity.

I have some concerns about him but with this roster it's hard to really know what's what. But I agree that making a change at this time or even during this season is the wrong thing to do even if we already know Koko is the wrong guy for the long haul (and I'm not suggesting that he is).

If he's the wrong guy for the long haul, and he is doing damage in the short run, how can you NOT make a change?

Because it is also about the PR aspect of the team. You always have to consider how others will perceive the moves you make. If we fire Koko before even giving him a full year and with the poo roster that was handed to him then you can bet that no one worth a damn would even want to consider coming here and that is both players and coaches. Our reputation already stopped us from getting Bud this summer and it will only be worse if we fire our rookie head coach before he has even had a full season.

Also the team is clearly starting to make some strides since the first couple weeks of the season and thus seems like a weird time to even be talking about firing Koko.

That’s interesting because I haven’t seen much in the way of boneheaded plays this season.

I agree. I watch him a lot when he's playing and he makes the right play a lot more often than not. If he lacks smarts then he had very good instincts, which is better. He keeps his cool very well in those melees around the rim... he appears to watch the defenders feet in order to pick the moment to go up.

The take from Philly fans was that he could never really understand defensive positioning. Maybe he has just matured or found a coach that can explain it, or maybe he doesn't stand out as a problem among our other greater defensive problems. Regardless. I have been happy with him and I am glad he is here.

The time-out he called mid-possession late in the third, while the Suns were rolling and in the process of executing one of their rare coherent offensive sets, was maybe the worst I have ever seen in all of my years of watching the league. The team is finally playing well and trusting each other, they have the Bucks on their heels, and Kokoskov destroys all of their confidence and momentum. Then, as if to reinforce his point, he went to the Suck Lineup one possession later, to make sure that the team felt adequately punished for their good play.

It's the kind of passive-aggressive cruelty you expect from a sadist with an addiction problem, not a professional coach allegedly interested in nurturing the growth of a young team. Once the competent Suns players got back on the floor, they let Crawford coach and ignored the desperate moron in the suit. Maybe they learned something, but we can sure as hell bet the coach didn't.
Igor seems to have a pre-determined substitution pattern for every game, and then he sticks with it regardless of what is happening in the game. John McLeod used to do this. So, if Igor is a good coach, but this is what he is doing, the question would be why?

What makes this even stranger is that he still does NOT have a determined starting line-up.

In addition, certain of the pre-determined substitutions (most notably the ones where Canaan and Crawford are in the backcourt, and especially when Warren and Ayton are on the bench as well) have produced horrendous results every single time, and yet Kokoskov still stubbornly sticks with them.

I repeat as you do. Suns are not going to win this year. Let the Dr. Experiment with the lineup the patient is not going to die.

You keep saying the patient is going to die but I don't believe it. Maybe you can say it 30 more times

Igor gets and deserves a lot of flak but he is slowly adjusting throughout the year. He's parked Andersen on the bench, started TJ, given Bridges and Crawford a lot more minutes. Maybe he's just methodical and only likes to make one major change at a time but it is happening.

That's the way it should be done IMO. Fans were ready to make sweeping changes after like one game this year, but as the coach you need to see more of a sample size to make major changes to the rotation.

Unless the need for change is painfully obvious, in which event this is just being way too slow to adjust.

And it's worse when the too-late adjustment is made and clearly works, only for Igor to abandon that adjustment after "like one game" (namely taking Canaan out of the starting line up, seeing success with that in Philadelphia, only to reinsert him back into the starting line-up the very next game in Chicago).
