This is true. Just crazy how far he fell off from the other playoff series. Maybe he just hit the perverbial wall and couldn’t break through.
CP3 did it too in the finals and he’s been around for 16 years. It happens. Sucks that it’s our guy it happened to, but whatever.

Or maybe he realized he had secured his $$$ moving forward and just coasted after Game 1 of the Finals. Sure as heck looked like it in Games 4-6.

Yup. Book have a lot more effort defensively this year but he’s still a pretty poor overall defender.
The Booker/CP3 backcourt will get torched defensively come playoff time against healthy Warriors, Clips, Denver, and of course Brooklyn and Milwaukee. There’s some perimeter defense issues there that teams exploit in a 7 game series. Got kinda lucky playing against mostly trash offensive backcourts first 3 rounds.

CP3 was playing with one freaking arm. What was Ayton's excuse?

Unfortunately, that's what makes it even more frustrating. The talent is clearly there, he's not a bust. But the mental/psychological part is broken or undeveloped. Hopefully, it's not unfixable.

stuff like this is ridiculous. Was Ayton any worse than Booker who got freaking benched in this series or how bout Chris Paul who legit cost us 2 games by himself.

Stop ignoring the first three rounds!!

Nobody is. He clearly has the talent. What he doesn't have is the motor. And for it to be off in the biggest games in franchise history should be sending alarm bells into chorus.

And why they should move him. Value will never be higher and he can’t be relied on as a #2.
Ayton is 22yrs old. He played great throughout most the playoffs. He came up short in the finals but I like the idea of having this dude on our team going forward. I think Bill Simmons summed up Ayton in a discussion on a recent podcast - It was around, who is Ayton and what can we expect from this guy... And it went something like - Ayton is a guy who just consistently shoots a high percentage 60%/70% from the field, can get you 10 - 15 rebs and plays pretty good D. Thats just who he is. Thats who he can be on a consistent basis. And he's 22yrs old. Of course we need him to improve and develop a tad more of a killer instinct, but again, he's a young center still with massive upside.

Nor does he have the strength or weight against Giannis

You could tell that Booker's problem was that he was trying too hard and forcing things. Booker will learn from that. Just as easily, you could tell that CP3's problem was his physical health. Whether his body can hold up in the future with further age is a legitimate question. After Game 1, Ayton coasted in the Finals, pure and simple, just as he has done time and time again before. I don't see that light ever coming on for Ayton. If playing for a freaking championship won't motivate him consistently on the court, nothing ever will.

Don’t think that’s the case. Ayton showed his true core this series. He is good but will never be consistently dominant

I think Bill Simmons said recently about Ayton in a discussion with whomever was on the podcast - Who is Ayton and what can we expect from this guy... But he can't be counted on as your second guy... not unless he improves his consistency in a big way and learns how to play to his strengths instead of fading in situations against top level competition.

I mean maybe he can do that... but there is some considerable doubt watching him for three years here now.

Nobody ever just "develops" a killer instinct. You either have it, or you don't. Booker has it...to a fault at this point, and like Kobe before him he needs to learn to temper his game and pick his spots better. Ayton just isn't motivated. At all. Very nice guy...but too nice ever to be great.

Looks like we have a little work to do. AGAIN
Proud as hell of the team. Bummed with the results for sure. But not like 93
Dario going down hurt a lot, he could have taken some of those Giannis charges.
Gonna take a basketball break until draft night.

Ayton got worn down you could tell. You do realize he’s legit the only big we got

Crowder is 6’6 and Craig is 6’7 and there playing PF for us against one of the biggest team in the NBA. Ayton has the entire rebounding load on his shoulders oh and has to defend Giannis.

this point the finger at the 22 year old stuff is a joke when our all time great future first ballet hall of fame PG got his lunch money taken by Jrue Holiday. We lost this not because of Ayton we lost this because of Paul’s last 3 games he was horrible
