I think last night it was just Harvey and Archibald. But what about teams that didn't play last night?

I guess papers in Orlando are also reporting it's Harvey for a 2nd rounder.

If that's the case, why would Archibald be saying goodbye?

Perhaps he's just being released to clear room for Harvey, but must wait until the trade is consummated?

Releasing him does no good though--his contract is guaranteed I thought--and I think we have 1 spot on IR open.

Can't they just buy out his contract?

SEATTLE - The Suns were working Monday to complete a deal with the Orlando Magic involving forward Donnell Harvey for forward Robert Archibald and a conditional second-round draft pick.

Coach Mike D'Antoni confirmed the deal Monday afternoon. Harvey was in Seattle before the Suns arrived from Los Angeles and is expected to make his debut tonight when the Suns visit the Sonics at KeyArena after the deal is finalized.

"He's going to be with us," D'Antoni said. "He's a tough guy and we want some toughness. We're pretty happy with the way things are going, but if he can help that will be great." There were factors holding up completion of the deal.

First, Harvey cannot be traded until today because of the timing of his signing with the Magic. He signed as a free agent Sept. 23 and could not be traded for three months.

And a third team, believed to be Toronto, is apparently interested in obtaining Archibald from Orlando, which could effect the economics of the deal. What the Raptors are offering is not known.

Whatever happens with the third team, the Magic and Suns will make their part of the deal.

A 6-foot-8, 220-pounder in his fifth NBA season, Harvey could restore some of the high energy and athleticism at the forward position that the Suns traded away when the sent veteran Bo Outlaw to Memphis.

He's also regarded as a better rebounder and less of an offensive liability than Outlaw.

"I don't know him that well and Bo is kind of unique," D'Antoni said. "But he's a tough, high-energy defensive type of guy.

"He's not bad offensively. He's not a skill player outside, but he can score."

But Harvey comes at a considerably more reasonable price. Outlaw makes about $6 million this season and has another year on his contract.

Harvey, who has averaged 4.1 points and three rebounds a game for the Magic this season, will earn $663,679 this season, the last year of his contract.

Archibald, a second-year player from Illinois, had played in only one game for the Suns after appearing in 12 for Memphis s a rookie last season.

Obtained as part of the trade that shipped Outlaw and Jake Tsakalidis to Memphis, Archibald also is in the last year of a contract that pays $563,679 this season.

Harvey comes aboard at a time when the Suns are thin at the forward position.

Amare Stoudemire is out with an ankle sprain, possibly into mid-January.

The club has gotten by playing small lineups with Shawn Marion at power forward or with jumbo lineups using two centers together.

Suns fans may best remember Harvey, a former high school quarterback, for the full-court inbound pass he threw with seven-tenths of a second to play in a game at America West Arena that his then-teammate Ryan Bowen of the Nuggets caught in stride and scored to beat the Suns 80-79 last season.

A conditional second round pick?? So in theory, if the suns continue to falter they will presumebly keep their second rounder.

Sounds to good to be true

Toronto has been rumored to be really hurting for a big man since trading away Davis, but Archibald?

Oh...I thought that Archibald's contract was worth a lot more than that.....Anyways...it's all moot now since he was part of the trade...

I read in the other thread he went on IR to make room for Harvey.

Seems like the Suns sources are saying Archibald is involved and the Orlando sources are just saying 2nd rd pick.

Actually, I was basing on what I read before I went out this morning, so I have no clue whatsoever....

Hey, perhaps they cloned Archibald? Yeah...thats the ticket!

My understanding is that there was supposed to be a futher trade with Toronto by the Magic. Perhaps it is that part that fell through.
