Harvey was a real nuisance on the boards in a couple of our games against Denver... glad we got him at a good price.

it's beacuse harvey can only be traded 90 days after signing the contract, so that would be tomorrow and since archibald and harvey were the only players not with their teams, it's kinda obvious whats happening.

Dec. 21, 2003: Robert Archibald was overheard saying "goodbye" to several of his teammates in the locker room following the Suns' win over the Rockets Saturday night. Today word comes that Archibald will be traded. Suns broadcaster Tom Leander reported during tonight's Suns-Lakers game on UPN 45 that a trade is pending with the Magic that would send the second-year forward to Orlando in a deal for Donnell Harvey (pictured).

The 6-8, fourth-year forward, who is averaging 4.1 points and 3.0 boards in 14.4 minutes a game, could provide the Suns with some valuable energy and hustle off the bench. Check back with Suns.com for the full details as soon as they become available.

LOL, that's a little judicious editing. What he really said was, "Goodbye, my name's Robert."

Donnell Harvey was drafted 22nd by the Knicks in 2000.

http://nbadraft.net/profiles/donnellharvey.htm

I personally do not like to give up any draft picks because of the foreign input to the NBA.

Here are some 2nd round picks from last year.

The suns currently would draft 39th if the draft were held today.

I guess time will only tell if Harvey is worth the 2nd round pick,
but 2nd round picks also come very cheap.

Having said this, I have always trusted the suns on their picks and drafts......well, other than the Dennis Johnson to the Celtics for Rick Robey!!!!!!

It appears this later pick was a very good pick by Orlando.

I personally do not like to give up any draft picks because of the foreign input to the NBA.

Here are the Suns under contract next year:

Marbury
Marion
Stoudemire
Hardaway
Johnson
Jacobsen
Voskuhl
White
Carbakapa
Barbosa
Trybanski

This is 11 players. Assuming they bring back Williams, sign their first round pick, and go after a free agent - this is 14 players. In year that does not appear to be offering a strong draft, my guess is that the Suns are not interested in another project player.

Second round picks are worthless.

If they turn out to be really good there's no way you can resign them.

Just look at Gilbert Arenas.

According to ESPN, Archibald isn't even included!

TORONTO -- The Orlando Magic are expected to send forward Donnell Harvey to the Phoenix Suns for a second-round draft pick on Tuesday.

Harvey

The deal, reported by the Orlando Sentinel, cannot become official until Tuesday per league rules. Free agents signed in the off-season cannot be traded within 90 days of signing.

The 6-8, 220-pound, third-year pro out of Florida signed with the Magic on Sept. 23.

"We're making roster changes, and Donnell's a part of it," Magic General Manager John Gabriel told the paper.

Some sort of move was anticipated after Harvey was held out of play twice last week and then was not in Toronto for Sunday's game against the Raptors.

The Magic have been disappointed in Harvey's play -- he averaged 4.1 points and three rebounds in 24 games and has been criticized for his inability to finish around the basket.

The pick will probably be passed along, as Orlando still owes the Atlanta Hawks a second-round pick from a previous transaction.

Harvey played previously with the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets.

He was selected by the Knicks as the 22nd pick in the 2000 draft.

Basically I agree although there are few exceptions: Redd, Mobley, etc.

Orlando is currently listed at $48.4 million, which is above the cap. That means they cannot trade directly for the draft pick.

The trade could not be completed until Dec 22nd due to the 90 day rule.

has the trade been confirmed yet? Harvey is the kid from Florida who was a monster in the tournament as a frosh and then came out right? I always liked him and would be happy with this trade.

I copied this straight off the suns web-site. Why would they put this on their site if it was not pretty much a done deal.

I think it's backwards.

The Suns can't trade a pick for a player because they're over the cap.

Actually they can if the player has a vet min. contract.

Furthemore if Harvey wouldn't be a vet min. player Suns still have a trade exception from the Outlaw-trade which makes the ORL-trade workable under the cap.

I guess papers in Orlando are also reporting it's Harvey for a 2nd rounder.

If that's the case, why would Archibald be saying goodbye?
