I think rebounding is mostly about focus and effort, but there is a lot more such as boxing out, instinct and athleticism.

You have to want the basketball more than anyone else.

Definitely alot more. If it was a simple as effort everybody would be Dennis Rodman.

there is an instinctive side to rebounding. Some players seem to know exactly where to go for the board as soon as the ball leaves the shooter's hands.

Marion was ridiculous at it. His unreal leaping ability helped too but he would somehow read how the ball was going to come off the rim right after shots went up.

He also had a great second burst reaction time. That’s what’s so frustrating with Ayton. You so rarely see those moments where he is just a pogo stick, in lightning quick reaction mode after a first attempt at defense or getting a rebound.
