Not many games will be on National TV but all the games should be televised except perhaps preseason games.

I didn't catch it before but Tom Leander remains as a studio host. It makes me feel better.

I'm not a big fan of Leander. Now if they can get rid of Kempton on the radio.

I thought you were referring to the minimal National TV coverage for the Suns which has been in the media.

Steve Albert will be replacing Tom Leander as the Suns TV play-by-play announcer.

The Suns are moving fast. I liked Leander.

I liked Tom Leander, too. But his personality somehow comes across as less than a heavyweight.

Steve Albert. He's the brother without the toupee or biting ladies' backs during forced sodomy. I know, I know, there are three Albert brothers announcing, as well as Marv's son. :D

Steve certainly has a varied resume of announcing jobs.

I wonder if they are keeping Leander around, should Al McCoy retire as radio play-by-play announcer. I'm sure there is a lot less revenue involved on the radio side.

I don't think Leander can hack radio play-by-play. I was impressed with Jeff Munn when he filled in for McCoy during long road trips.

As well as now doing all the D'backs radio play-by-play, as well as pre- and post-game shows, with the Guv'nor moving to TV in place of, what was his name, oh yeah Daron Sutton. :D

I just hope that, baseball or basketball, we keep Jeff Munn in the Valley doing play-by-play. He is the closest to Vin Scully I have every heard.

Thank god.

"ELEVATES AND DETONATES!"

"FREE FOR THREE!"

"DOWN LOADS A THREE!"

As purely play by play and analysis he was fine, but his catch phrases were aaaaawful.

Thank God, Leander and ***** Williams were the worst pair in the NBA. Maybe my favorite move of the offseason.

Most amusingly, we end up with Frank Stallone again!

Gonna be strange not hearing Leander and his corny lines. Not a big fan of him, but you get used to an announcer.

Steve Albert definitely has an announcers "voice" though.

Exactly. Corny and lame. Was annoyed how he tried to give every player a nickname. Like Shawn marks, "my mane man".

I thought Leander's lines were lame too, but if you think about it "Shazam" "Swisheroo for Two" and "Zing Go the Strings" aren't exactly hip either. It would be corny as hell coming from anyone but McCoy. It just doesn't sound forced with McCoy. It seemed as if Leander stayed up at night trying to think if catch phrases. One of my favorite things that McCoy says is "dribble-drive".

Exactly. My roommate and I, if one of us is narrating something that happened in a sporting even we call it giving them the "dribble drive".

McCoy's lines seemed a lot more natural and evolved over time. Leander's seemed desperate. "Downloads a 3"... uuuhuhuhuhuhuh.

Yep, Al is a living legend and can get away with anything. It just sounds contrived coming from anyone else.

Als an old man, if he says old man corny stuff, it fits. I agree it just seemed like Leander was trying to hard.

Also, I think one of the saddest things about the Suns not winning a title during the Nash era is, we may never get to hear McCoy say "Suns win, Suns win, Suns win the NBA Title!" and that sucks.

Al's idol was Chick Hearn, the Laker announcer. A week from tomorrow, it will be ten years since Chick passed away, having experienced many Laker championships during his 41 seasons.

Alas, Al, just as Jerry Colangelo who recently ended all ties with the Suns, is destined to never have enjoyed even one. Perhaps Al should have moved to the D'backs permanentoy with Jerry. He used to do the Phoenix Giants minor league games and was the D'backs play-by-play announcer on weekends (working with Joe Garagiola), but only during their initial season.
