But the month started with a more optimistic move from many of the Suns, who were trying to get ready for a season that might not happen. A group of the players met in San Diego for a two-a-day workout organized by captain Steve Nash. They got up shots and played four-on-four games with a small group that included Nash, Jared Dudley, Hakim Warrick, Josh Childress, Channing Frye and Gani Lawal.
"Steve just wanted to get guys into that mode of working out," Dudley said. "It was more of a bonding experience. It was spur of the moment."
The gang might get together again in October, assuming the lockout is still going and the players are prohibited from using US Airways Center for workouts.
