For the record, Gay has 2 more years and $37M guaranteed after this season. Also, he's 26 and never made an all-star team.

averages almost 18 points a game and 6 rebounds, I would take that right now and have shannon control the 2 guard spot. He is still young and could be here for another 5 years as a piece to build around with gortat and dragic.

I disagree. Would this make us a little better right now? Sure, but it doesn't by any means make us a contender and it puts a huge contract on our books for the next 2 seasons. All this trade does in my opinion is messes up our cap situation and draft position. I suppose that we can hope being away from his other Grizz teammates will elevate his game to another level kind of like Harden this year.

This. Unless the Suns plan on keeping this guy long term I don't understand it?!?! Doesn't make the team a contender at all. Maybe the plan is to try and work out a long term deal? If this is just for the next 2 years the Suns should probably just leave this alone.

The salaries are a long way from working. Who else would Phoenix include? Johnson and ...?

Also I would be quite upset if the Suns gave up their own pick this year or next year. I would rather have Goodwin this year and a chance at Wiggins next year. Maybe they can at least get Beasley in this deal as well. That would make it a lot easier to accept.

Looks like a Fyre,Dudley,2014 protected first and Johnson for Gay and Pondexter deal could work salary wise.

that is a terrible terrible terrible deal for Phoenix as Gay himself is barely a better player than Dudley if at all..

including a pick and expiring contracts? Just no way..

Dudley, Beasley and Johnson for Gay maybe..

Gay will produce better on the Suns by virtue of the fact that he has nobody to compete for it with.

Yep, not only will it barely move the needle in the short term, it will also harm our flexibility and negatively affect our draft position.

Just the sort of directionless short term thinking I expect out of this FO/ownership group.

Exactly this move is nothing more than a desperate move to get more fans in the seats as soon as possible. Whether or not they go through with this trade and what they are willing to give up to make this happen will say a lot about this organization.

I think no matter what you will have to give a pick and gay is a better player than Dudley.

if you had a starting lineup of Dragic, Brown,Gay,Scola, and Gortat doesn't seem too bad and only Scola is really old of those 5.

Based on what is Gay a better player than Dudley? A better dunker sure and nothing else.

Gay barely shoots 40% and his PER is lower than Dudley. He will make almost 40M$ the next 2 years.

That lineup is going NOWHERE but mediocrity at best.

Giving a first round pick for the luxury of trading Dudley for an equal but more flashy player while paying that guy 4 times as much as Dudley is just STUPID.

Dudley, Beasley, Brown, Telfair for Gay and Wroten

And that deal probably STILL SUCKS for us.

I am totally against this trade, but I am nowhere near delusional enough to say that Dudley is just as good as Gay. Gay has a career average of 18 points and 5.7 RPG and Dudley has career averages of 9 points and 3.7 RPG. Also Gay's career PER is like 2 points better than Dudley's. All that said I am totally against this trade and I don't believe it would be enough of an upgrade for the difference in money.

Gay is a better rebounder and a better scorer dudley is averaging 11 a game this year and his career average is 8 a game. Gay could easily do 22 a game here as the #1 shooter. Gay is a year younger as well. There is a reason Dudley has never been a full time starter for a full year and to say they are equal is laughable.

You beat me to the same stats. Im not saying the deal is perfect but if we could trade dudley, beasley, and Johnson for Gay I think that is a good deal since we still have frye that is gonna come off the books at around 6 mil. Gay can be that perfect #2 guy like Joe Johnson we just need that one superstar. We have all the pieces but that one guy.

Who do you guys expect to sign the next two years anyway? Josh Smith? Evans? Paul and Howard arent coming here so who is the guys you want to sign that would massively improve this team overnight?

Fans aren't coming to see Rudy Gay.

I am not too worried about flexibility. We are not going to sign a FA that is better than Gay most likely.

Just keep the picks. I am just not sure that Gay is much better than Dudley.

This just feels like the Goran/Aaron Brooks trade.

How many games total has Jared Dudley started at SF in his career? Versus how many times Rudy Gay has started at SF? Not saying I'm supporting this trade--but if you want to compare the two, make sure the circumstances of your comparisons are somewhat similar. Rudy Gay has played a complete 82 game season as a starter--could Jared do the same?

over the full season Dudley is putting up better PER numbers than Gay too.. Dudley 15.2 PER, Gay 14.9 PER

There is a reason Hollinger wants to trade Gay for Dudley. He is one of the heads behind PER and he knows that Dudley can be more valueable toward winning than Gay at 1/4 of the cost and now wants to completely rip off the Suns since everyone knows Lance Blanks and Lon Babby are incompetent and desperate.

Those numbers are through a third of one season. Gay has much better career numbers than he is currently putting up through a third of this season. In all likelihood his numbers will even them selves out by the end of the year.
