He certainly doesn't look like a natural near the rim, but at least he's actually trying now.

What I like, Bender is taking the next step in his progression... driving the ball to the basket.

Earlier his game was mostly taking 3 point shots. He should keep getting better and better with time.

Like what Chriss is doing tonight.

He has a balanced game with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Jackson is showing why the Suns drafted him tonight. Thus far he has 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lakers draft well late, e.g., Kuzma, Zubac, Hart and Clarkson. The latter three are second round picks.

Kuzma was drafted 27th in the first round.

Need to get Chriss in the game. He has played only 19 minutes. :D

Jackson played well. I thought Bender did a good job of being aggressive. He missed some shots, but he drove to the hoops five or six times.

I think, and hope, Bender is over his issues with being a starter. It seemed like he got in his own head too much when he was made a starter previously. I don't think there is enough of a talent gap or acclimation process of getting used to playing with the first or second unit because the rotations have been all over the place due to injuries since 2018 rolled around. It seemed like he couldn't be at all effective unless he came off the bench before. With Chriss' injury and then suspension though it's given Bender enough time to settle himself down and get used to starting from the opening tip. I'd like to see him produce more but that's the next step for him now that he's gotten past his issue with being a starter.

Bender seems to be a really coachable player as well. Everything Bordow has written in regards to Bender's development and Triano's plans for him we've been able to see in games. Of course you'd hope that a player picked #4 overall was more NBA ready but if this was his rookie year, I think people would be higher on him as a player than they are/were. He's had a decent season so far that is definitely much improved on his rookie campaign. He's become a solid outside shooter, he's driving to the basket now also, and he's not nearly as timid as he was passing up good looks for himself. He needs to get stronger so he can be a better defender and finish through contact but defensively he gets in the right position and makes smart moves. It's easier to develop strength than basketball IQ, hopefully he works hard this summer to get stronger so he can be a better rebounder and not get bullied out of position on both ends of the floor. There's still a lot of areas for him to improve upon but at least we're seeing development from him rather than being the same player he was when the Suns picked him, like Len. There really isn't much difference in Len's play now compared to 5 years ago.

If he keeps elevating his game he’s gonna make $300 million. He will not be an announcer.

Money earned during their career doesn't fulfill players' desire to be involved with the game after their careers are over. Nowadays with social media, players are more known by fans than previously and their fanbase doesn't go away just because they retire. A lot of them are going into broadcasting or other forms of sports television because they still love the game. We're seeing more retired NBA players join broadcasts after their careers are over now than a decade or two ago.

There are more jobs now also because coverage is 24/7/365 of all sports. There's more than just ESPN now with NBA-TV being a more legit channel than it was a decade ago, TNT has the best basketball coverage of any network and arguably has the most entertaining show that covers sports with Inside the NBA. Fox Sports started their own network to rival ESPN, and ESPN has like 5 or 6 channels of their own to fill up.

Guys like Shaq, Garnett, and Paul Pierce made a ton of money throughout their careers and they're all working as analysts or broadcasters without taking any time off between their career ending and starting a new one in TV. There are a number of millionaires that are announcers nowadays with almost every team employing a former player as their local color commentator and a couple more for additional coverage.
