Our roster is a revolving door. Signing the tech brothers cheap and then turning around to trade one of them, or how about the promises they made IT to join a double PG backcourt - that ringed hollow pretty quickly. Our reputation is in shambles. Taking care of our own, e.g. Barbosa in this case - if he wanted it - is something we need to do to get a better rep amongst the players. That is my belief.

It's a popular thought because it's rational. I mean no offense Chaplin, I just disagree.

Blake Griffin, LaMarcus, even Lebron only used the Suns as leverage, maybe a fun golf trip. They didn't get the Durants treatment like Colangelo used to give.

You actually think us trading away Marcus was a sign of organizational incompetence? Do you remember Marcus' (and Markieff's) attitude problems? Do you remember how much of a cancer they were? My goodness, I'd say trading away those guys was some of the best moves this organization has made in recent years.

Our reputation is NOT in shambles. Come on. There is nothing that proves that at all. You're making us out to be Cleveland before Lebron or Charlotte ever since Jordan took over. We've had issues with our owner, sure, but we are not a horrible organization. We are just now getting out of a low point, but it could be A LOT worse. Remember Josh Childress and Michael Beasley?

You're statement about Barbosa:

Taking care of our own, e.g. Barbosa in this case - if he wanted it - is something we need to do to get a better rep amongst the players.

Is barely quantifiable because one, you're basing it not only on speculation about what the organization's thinking is, as well as basing it on speculation about what Barbosa himself thinks. Point is you don't know anything about this situation except that we waived him. You don't even know if he was upset about it--there are any number of contenders that can sign him -- and would want to sign him.

You and AZBALLER don't like the organization so you're using this as an excuse to support your opinion that we are a laughing stock and nobody wants to play here. That simply isn't true. This is a business. You throw enough money at a guy, and he'll play for whoever signs him. How do you think perennial losers sign players?

The real (and only) question about Barbosa now is would we have waived him knowing that Brandon Knight was going to be out for the year? Maybe not. But Barbosa is not a big loss--and those of us that prefer a championship over the same old thing have little problem with this.

How those guys got max contracts. They didn't need to get leverage from Phoenix. Maybe Blake Griffin. But why choose PHX

I was relieved when we traded the Morris thugs and finally got rid of the better one.

I have been a Suns fan for thirty years... I like where we are now but as I said our reputation is not too good, so, again, as I wrote, if Meep wanted to stay, gifting him a year on the bench cheering for the youngsters and being a father figure could have been a promotional move.

Please calm down, chap.

So we can't disagree without your chastising me to "calm down"? It's a message board. I could be posting from a jacuzzi for all you know. :)

Perennial losers DONT sign all stars, which are what the Suns need. Our reputation sucks, and that needs to change not soo much from a media standpoint, but more importantly, as has been stated on here, from players point of views.

All-Stars generally don't sign free agent contracts 80% of the time anyway so even that reasoning is flawed.

Two things to add to the discussion:

1. How many elite FA's have we EVER signed? Three? Chambers, Manning, and Nash. Maybe Googs.

2. Right now only three teams are destinations: SA, GS, and Cleveland. Reason? Everyone wants to play for winners like LeBron, Steph, and Pop. If Booker can climb that ladder, Phoenix becomes a FA destination. As long as Sarver has learned his lesson, which I think he has.

I'd add Houston and Boston to the teams that FA's want to play for. Houston could challenge GS and SA if they got another All-Star. Boston has a good lineup now and a ton of assets. I'm sure no one would be upset going there. Lebron and Cleveland may not be that desirable since Lebron can bail at the end of the season.

Chambers, Manning, Nash, Googs. BTW I think that is probably more than most any other team.

BTW. There is a history of high quality FA signings. Danny Ainge, AC Green, Wayman Tisdale, Rex Chapman, Rodney Rogers, Kevin Johnson, Quentin Richardson, Raja Bell, Grant Hill, Channing Frye, PJ Tucker.

I am not sure if any team in the league has a better history of signing quality free agents. We just haven't done it much recently.

This is true. I guess I was just thinking of elite FA's. But we have always been good at getting quality role players to match our elite players.

I should also add that we have been great at resigning our own stud FA's. McDyess being the exception.

Kevin Johnson? We traded nance for kj, west, Corbin and the draft pick for majerle (crazy amazing trade).

FTFY.

Since the whole thread is sidetracked anyway. :)

I would have to think Jerry Colangelo regrets selling the Suns. He may have gotten his finances in order but with the increased value of NBA franchises into the billion dollar range, it must not look like a good decision today.
