The Clips are trying to keep him.

not if they're not offering him the MAX, as you you earlier said they aren't.

If a home-town team isn't offering it's star player all it can, it doesn't scream we want to keep the guy... especially to the guy they want to keep.

Suns have a chance to be the worst rebounding team in NBA history (iirc the suns might have the current record on that too) next season if Chriss is going to play extensive mins at the 5 because he is a piss poor rebounder. There's probably a better chance of the 5'8 Tyler Ulis grabbing an important rebound in a game than there is of Chriss.

Chriss would get thrown around under the glass. Don't like him as a long term option at C. But I do think he could improve his rebounding. He improved other parts of his game throughout last season.

I wonder if Blake tells PHX that they need to acquire his boy DJ if they want to sign him, remember rumor was LAC were interested in #4 pick for DJ supposedly.

If the Suns end up swapping Jackson for Jordan to get Griffin to sign here (for the max), no thanks.

Maybe that's why Blake is listening to Phoenix. To drive up his price with the Clippers. Wouldn't be the first time someone has done that.

Clippers know that a team will offer him the max, even if it isn't Phoenix. He doesn't need to drive up a price when they know teams will offer it to him anyways.

Wonder how CP3 departure effects their thinking? Are they looking to reload or rebuild?

I think it was Bickley and Kempton yesterday were saying that the scuttlebutt from the Clips players is that Doc really favors Austin. He does not correct him like the other players etc. The players resent it and that is why they are leaving.

That would be a really tough situation for a coach to be in. No matter how hard you try, you will be perceived as showing favoritism. And, if you trade him, how are you going to go home and tell your wife, "I just traded away our son."

That's odd. Usually being the coaches son means you get disciplined twice as hard as anybody else on the team. At least that was my experience.

I just don't see how adding Griffin makes sense... Is he known to be a leader, or mentor? Is he known to be a winner in the NBA? Will adding him bring any type of meaningful benefit now, or in the next few years?
I just don't see it... I don't see him serving as a mentor to our young studs... in fact, I see him potentially stunting their growth and learning.
I don't see him taking us to a new, meaningful level. Maybe we become a 7 or 8 seed... which means what?? We get blasted by the Warriors in the first round and end up with crappy draft picks, while our young studs lose out on valuable learning and growth opportunities...
Plus, I am not at all sold on Blake's ability to stay healthy...

I keep swinging back and forth, but landing in this side more often than not.

Here's another way to look at it.
The Suns have openly stated that they want to add another vet to the mix.
They believe that you need a good mix of quality vets and young talent to grow and compete.

Would you rather they sign one of the available free agents or trade one or two of our young guys to get one? Would you rather sign Blake or trade Chriss and 3 firsts for George or some other disgruntled star?

It doesn't appear that stand pat is a choice.

The thing is, what is the right move and who is the right player? Was Aldridge the right player? IMO, the right player is Gordon Hayward but the Suns are not getting any interest. Plus the Suns have Josh Jackson now.

The Clippers hope they can re-sign Griffin but he is a free agent. The Clippers just lost their star PG in Chris Paul. It appears they may also lose Redick. Is DeAndre Jordon now their franchise player?

The thing is, almost every player is a gamble. However, when a team gets to sign a star, I think you one has to look at it. Blake Griffin will have a strong cast to go around him. Perhaps the other option for the Suns to become relevant is Paul Millsap. He is a nice player but I'd rather have Griffin who is younger.

I completely agree that almost every player is a gamble. The key is understanding where on the spectrum does that gamble lie. If the gamble spectrum were 0 to 100 (0 being no gamble, 100 being a pure gamble), I'd put signing Griffin at an 85. The guy puts up great stats when he plays. The key word being 'when'. His health and other factors keep pushing that gamble toward the top. And don't forget the price tag will be immense.

I see Millsap as less of a risk depending on his contract. He's a far savvier player than Griffin that compliments this team. But even if he's less of a risk, he's still a good sized risk. Say, a 70 on the same scale. I wouldn't sign him either.

I just don't see the need to mess with the core of this team: Eric/Booker/Jackson/Chriss. Which is our 1/2/3/4. I'd sign mid level vets who come relatively cheap and become extra coaches to these young talented men. Eric leads the team at 1, Tyson at 5, Dudley from the bench. This team needs to slow cook, not be microwaved.

Our goal should be to duplicate what GS and SA did:

1. Draft well. (Check)
2. Sign low cost key vets to fill roles that compliment core.
3. Allow our young talent to develop.
4. Coach em up.
5. Trade anyone that doesn't fit.
6. Spend wisely so that we can resign our young talent to sensible team-centered contracts.

When we start winning with OUR team, that's when FA's will start showing interest. But we won't need them if we do this right.

Then they are short-sighted and make me fear they will never know how to truly make this a championship team.

All of this makes perfect sense.

There are 30 teams in the NBA. If every team won a championship you would only win once every 30 years. This infatuation everybody has with winning a championship is kind of sad.

I just want to see the Suns get better and hopefully have a chance in a few years. Dynasties like SA and GS take good management but also an insane amount of luck. There is no one proven formula.

I understand his health is a risk but I believe he would make the team better without taking away too many minutes from the development of Bender and Chriss and there is real value in the development of these players if they are playing meaningful games in March, April and the first round of the playoffs. There's also real value to the franchise to play meaningful games in end of the season and get into the playoffs and have at least two home playoff games. I hope he signs with us.

You don't think paul George is a top 10 player? Who do you rank above him?

I don't know, off the top of my head, in no particular order:

James
Westbrook
Leonard
Davis
Curry
Durant
Harden
Ante...
Towns
Lillard

That's ten, right?

I was just searching for info on Blake when I came across a Nuggets fan article explaining why Blake was a bad idea because he didn't fit their championship trajectory.

Chriss in not a worse rebounder than other recent Sun's PFs... to wit, Channing Frye and Marcus Morris. Given his age we can hope for significant improvement. Spending some time at 5 might increase his focus on rebounding technique so why worry about that?

That is ten. I am surprised you have Lillard there over him. I don't know if Towns is better than him right now, but Towns is also early 20s and will probably be a lot better than George in the next 2-3 years.

There's a lot of young talent in the NBA right now. Its goign to be hard for Booker or Chriss or Jackson to crack this list in 4 years.

You seriously place lilliard and towns above George? Cmon. The rest I can live with. But he's arguably top 10.
