First off, if Marion is unhappy then i would be all for trading him. and if Sarver says "what they hell" and bites the bullet, i say try to trade him for Garnett. if that doesnt happen, then it would be nice to see Marion moved to somewhere he wants (maybe Chicago where he lives, or Toronto with BC).
so if we could somehow get Garnett, it would take A LOT of work and trading. even still, the suns are looking at being DEEP in luxury tax territory for at least 3 years. but i'll give some trades a shot:
Suns trade: Marion/Jones/Grant/Atlanta's First/#27
Suns get: Garnett/Peterson
Wolves trade: Garnett
Wolves get: Villenueva/#1/Atlanta's First
Raptors trade: Villenueva/#1/Peterson
Raptors get: Marion/Jones/Grant/#27
we get Garnett (Yay), along with $4.5mil of expiring contracts with Peterson. Marion goes away.
the Wolves rebuild. they wont be good for years though. they will have TONS of young talent, but will have to wait for their crap to expire (Blount/Jaric/Hassell/Hudson). in a few years though, they'll be more competetive and have some leverage as far as trading goes.
Toronto gets Marion/Jones/and the #27. Marion fills in right there in place of Villenueva. Bosh and Marion would be great together. Jones/#27 could give them some decent bench.
Suns trade: KT/Barbosa
Suns get: Brown/#15
Hornets trade: Brown/#15/Smith
Hornets get: KT/Barbosa/Dooling
Magic trade: Dooling
Magic get: Smith
Suns get a pick which helps them out. they have a chance at getting Rondo to backup Nash, while Brown gives them another substancial expiring contract.
the Hornets get KT, who replaces Brown, and Barbosa who is quite an upgrade over Smith. Dooling rounds out the backcourt giving them a decent backup for Paul once Speedy leaves via FA.
the Magic are intested in Smith, and here they get him for cheap.
Amare/Brown/Burke
Diaw/Thomas (3year $12mil)
Garnett/Peterson/Skita
Bell/Ager (#21)
Nash/Rondo (#15)
Total 06/07 - $69mil - 12 players (if House wants to stay then cool)
Total 07/08 - $68mil - 9 players
things start hurting for the 08/09 season, but with both Garnett and Nash coming off the books, it becomes a little bearable.
