I think this should have a thread of its own as its buried in the other thread on NBA free agents.

Adrian Wojnarowski‏Verified account@wojespn
Sources: Suns out on Millsap pursuit, turning to use cap space to absorb $ dumps paired w/ assets. Open to moving vets, going all-in young.

Doug Haller‏Verified account@DougHaller 26m26 minutes ago
Confirmed the Suns have ended their pursuit of free agent Paul Millsap and intend to focus on their young core. @wojespn first.

Do you think this is a good move for the Suns???

HELL YES

Can't wait for next season. Get bad contracts with good assets. keep building to be a team that can stick together for 10 years. We're young, talented and finally ATHLETIC.

We can only go all young for so long. The day will come when we have to commit to bigger contracts for our young players and the door will close on being able to sign other free agents.

Looking at the trade of Paul George, if we think we might not want to keep Bledsoe, the time to trade him is now.

The willingness to take on assets in salary dumps and move vets, is just about being opportunistic. Take advantage of what the market gives you.

I think it's another good move. We've got so many pieces to sort out already and plenty of vets. We could use a better coach, however... Watson is in over his head.

Do you think that this means they will dump Brandon Knight and his just eat his contract??

He seems to be the right coach for young players but who would you rather have as the Head Coach?

I agree, not sure about the watson hate, he is the right coach for now.

The young guys love him and his personality and they have developed under him, warren, booker, chriss, ulis, williams.

His x's and o's are very questionable, but the most important thing for now is to have a coach that can develop them. Maybe years after they developed, and if watson still doesn't have an offensive system to best utlize them, you make a change

The bottom line is that the Suns will not be good this year. They will be a low lottery pick again. Additionally GM Ryan McDonough is on the last year of his contract and we have heard nothing of an extension. Sarver may want to go a different direction.

If Sarver is letting McD to go all-in on the youth movement, I think it's just a matter of time before he gets an extension.

This is the very definition of tanking with the intention of playing the young guys--and NOT the definition of tanking where they set out to lose purposely.

What you are proposing is to get more assets like Celts GM Danny Ainge does.

I like McD and hope that they extend him. It would be a mistake to let him go.

Boston, Cleveland. Those two teams are going to want to do something. The door is wide open in the east for a team that will seize the moment. Even if they have no hope of winning the finals, they can be there.

The Suns need to stick with McDonough. Going a different direction in mid-stream is a bad idea. I hope Sarver realizes this.

I do not concede the Suns will be a low lottery pick again.

Both are good candidates for some of our vets especially Bledsoe. But what could they give us??

Why do you feel that way? They won't be adding any free agents of note and just going with the young guys. Plus a lot of the NBA West teams have really made improvements except the Suns??

I like the Suns young players. The Suns have laid a nice foundation. Who is to say when these youngsters take off? Adding name free agents who do not fit does not necessarily make them a better team.

A case could be made for adding Griffin but Millsap was a reach. I'm glad it dd not happen. The Suns hands would be tied going forward.

I think we ended up in the best possible scenario not getting either of them. I was halfway ok with Griffin, but 100% not ok about Millsap. I like the player, but there was absolutely no reason whatsoever for us to sign him. None.

I'm good with this. Continue to develop youth. Still don't know what we have in bender. If we end up with a better team, good then they are progressing. If we stink good then we have another good asset either with a high pockmin another strong draft or something to package for a star next offseason

Alan Williams has drawn some interest but apparently zero bidders for Len... I wonder if we can withdraw our qualifying offer for him...
