If we're going all in with our youngsters then we should look to move either Chandler or Dudley. I don't think we need both here as mentors or veterans for our youngsters. We could probably replace one of them for a veteran on a cheaper deal for just the year also.
I hope we move Chandler, for a few reasons, but he would most likely net more in return for us. If nothing else, it wouldn't cost us any assets to move him. Neither are on ridiculous contracts compared to the contracts players are signing the last 2 years and both only have 2 years left on their deals. I know Chandler has said he wants to stay here and is ok being a mentor but ultimately that's not why he signed here.
He hasn't made any demands and turned down offers to move him, which shows he's a good guy but I think it's time we parted ways. We don't need 2 mentors making $10 million+ a year and Dudley signed here to be a veteran leader, Chandler didn't, and I'm not sure how Chandler would react to sitting with a bunch of "DNP - Coaches Decisions".
Tyson was ok sitting after the All-Star break but sitting during the year when he's healthy and we're "competing" is another story. Unlike with Dudley, Chandler is our best Center so he should be getting minutes if he's healthy. He averaged 8.5 ppg & 11.5 rpg last year, which should show any potential trade partners that he can contribute 20-25 minutes of quality play at Center. He was also the starting Center on championship team in 2011 with the Mavericks, so he's not a stranger to playing deep into the playoffs. He's a solid option for any playoff team that is looking for more rebounding, someone to contest shots in the paint, and get easy putbacks and lobs.
Dudley works better in the mentor role, I think. He can still contribute some off the bench with our 2nd unit, which is mostly young players who haven't put everything together yet, and he seems totally fine with coming off the bench. I'm pretty sure he knows that our SF's and PF's are better than he is, which makes him sitting easier to handle. Dudley has a high BB IQ also, I've always impressed when he is a guest on any of our local sports radio shows. So he knows his role, is a smart player, who plays really hard, and he loves Phoenix enough that he considers it "home". The article he wrote when he resigned here for the Players Tribune was great and showed that he understands exactly why he's here.
Dudley also just had surgery on his foot and will miss the next 3-4 months, so that would probably hurt his trade value. Because of the surgery, I think it's more likely we'd need to attach something to move Dudley. His contract actually goes down annually so he's costing us less as the years go on and he contributes less on the court. Since he's content coming off the bench and is actually making 3-4 million a year less than Chandler, I think we should hang onto him.
