Alan Williams has drawn some interest but apparently zero bidders for Len... I wonder if we can withdraw our qualifying offer for him...

I keep Len for a reasonable salary. He can provide young depth at center.

Anyone with good salary dump options. I don't want more than three years left, summer of 2019 we can have a ton of money with all the young guys outside of warren/booker on rookie contracts.

Demarre Carroll looks like an option, but a late tornonto 1st round pick, is that worth it?

I guess we will see what happens. I do like Carroll. He is all work.

I liked Demarre when he was with Utah but since he went to Toronto he was out injured and since then his numbers have fallen off - with Utah I used to wonder why they didn't play him more, as he was efficient on offense and defended quite well. His stats stayed the same in Atlanta but I never saw him play. Toronto pick figures to be mid twenties unless Lowry leaves, if he does they'll probably drop a couple of notches. Could be quite an expensive draft pick...

Why do you feel that way? They won't be adding any free agents of note and just going with the young guys. Plus a lot of the NBA West teams have really made improvements except the Suns??

We aren't supposed to waste money and effort trying to improve this year. Our own guys will improve getting full minutes. We have a team of potential future All Stars who all happen to only be 19 or 20 years old.

This is good news... and shows the Suns are wising up. I give credit to McD and am on board with extending him next year. Aside from one or two missteps, I think he has done a good job.

There's of course no guarantee that all of the young talent they are accumulating will blossom into stars, but they are still rebuilding the smart way. A lot of the teams throwing out big contracts to mediocre talent right now are going to really be regretting it in a couple years.

As for taking on dead money to accumulate more assets, I would be interested in also seeing them bring in one or two younger prospects that haven't had the opportunities to really show their full potential with their current team, but who would get a better chance here... along the lines of how we got Westphal in the 70s, or KJ back in the late 80s. There are probably one or two diamonds in the rough out there. Colangelo was excellent at finding them.

I would like to see Bender, Chriss, Jackson and Ullis run together. Booker too but that means less minutes with the starters. Unless Jackson and Chriss are starters. I think the top is the future and its run and gun people.

I think this should have a thread of its own as its buried in the other thread on NBA free agents.

Adrian Wojnarowski‏Verified account@wojespn
Sources: Suns out on Millsap pursuit, turning to use cap space to absorb $ dumps paired w/ assets. Open to moving vets, going all-in young.

Confirmed the Suns have ended their pursuit of free agent Paul Millsap and intend to focus on their young core. @wojespn first.

Do you think this is a good move for the Suns???
Yes...the Suns finally see they are still a couple of years away, even if they add 1 star now...No need to waste money, just to rise to the level of mediocrity. Let GS, Hou, and Okc kill themselves for a couple of years and keep developing your own talent.

Be ready to duke it out with the Lakers in 2020.

I think it's another good move. We've got so many pieces to sort out already and plenty of vets. We could use a better coach, however... Watson is in over his head.
Watson is to the Suns, what Doug Collins was to Jordan's Bulls.

The bottom line is that the Suns will not be good this year. They will be a low lottery pick again. Additionally GM Ryan McDonough is on the last year of his contract and we have heard nothing of an extension. Sarver may want to go a different direction.
If Sarver wants to go in another direction again, then this year's plan is a waste. I think the FO is all in on this plan.

The top 4 teams in the West will be fighting it out, but the bottom 4 spots might be up for grabs.

I would definitely consider trading for Carroll for a first round draft. He would give the Suns depth at both forward positions. In regard to putting out effort, he reminds me of a taller version of PJ Tucker.

And who would play SF for the Raptors after dealing away Carroll?

Does this mean they're open to moving Bledsoe and Chandler?

With a little luck this could actually be a player that makes the team a little better and nets the Suns a nice draft pick. I like this idea a lot. The Suns were getting a lot of praise from around the league even during their final takathon for the way all their young talent was playing.

I could see this team winning 40 games next season and not making the playoffs. Remember they do get to play every team in the east twice. They won 24 last year but could have won 10 more if they were trying to win every game. I think the current roster just being a year older and wiser gets them at least 6-8 more wins. And the best part is that they're going to be really fun to watch. Also several teams that were already better than the Suns got even better but several others just got a lot worse.

I agree there's an outside chance for this club to win 40 games if everyone stays healthy and each of the youngsters take at least one step forward.

It wasn't my idea but I'd take him if the Raptors send a first round pick with him.

I get that it's a whole new world with the insane salary cap, but giving 30% of it to a 32-year old Milsap just doesn't seem right.

I agree. Also, as I mentioned on another thread, will they be able to keep Mason Plumlee? He is still only 27 years old.

A part of me wants revenge.
