It wasn't all on him but we were -17 today during Canaan's 19 minutes on the court.

Average minutes moving forward should be:

Booker 38
Ayton 38
Warren 36
Bridges 32
Jackson 32
Holmes 20
Crawford 20
Daniels 12
Okobo 12

I saw it a bunch. He put his arm out and it made contact with Griffin. No doubt, with the contact, Warren was expecting a 3-point play, not a charge. I HATE the call. Offensive fouls should be egregious to be called like that, and this was not. However, Griffin sold it hard and brought attention to it. By the rules, it was a slightly defensible call, but I think context is important too. Griffin went on to flop several times in the next few minutes, and even tried to pull the same thing against Jackson later in the game.

I only had one good look at it. I remember the arm being extended towards Griffin but no way I thought it was a charge.

It's amazing how Griffin flops on almost every play not to mention the fouls he commits.

Chambers commented he would probably have been ejected with that bs as well. Players do that all game all year....after year....

Plus the other ticky tack crap they called to begin the game.

The starting lineup is good with

Ayton
Booker
TJ
Ariza

Canaan with those 4 elevates only Canaan, Canaan feeds off those players.

Now Canaan off the bench with other bench players, he’s got no one to fall back on except himself. And he, himself, sucks.

Now Bridges for example can start or come off the bench and still produce. Sign of a real nba player.

I don't know about that. He is able to give us a good 10-15 minutes a game but the other 10-15 minutes aren't so good. If he was playing as a real backup then he could be pulled for the starter or someone else if he's playing like garbage or doing stupid things. Right now he's coming off the bench but isn't the true backup PG. He's the only point guard, really. I could see him in more of a backup role later in the season if Kokoskov keeps this starting group and starts giving Okobo or Melton more time. I wonder why they're not seeing more time, especially Okobo, because he looks good when he is out there. Both have played some in the G-League also. There is no reason to sit them like Kokoskov has. One should always be in the G-League and the other should see 3-4 minutes in the first half, at least, and if they are good minutes then extend them and give them some in the second half.

Back to the original point though, Canaan should be a decent backup when there is a real PG for him to backup. Right now he's more of a sixth man or something and doesn't have another PG challenging him for playing time and I think that has given him more room to make mistakes, for better and worse. Mostly worse but as Steve pointed out, sometimes it's helped like in the Spurs game.

I'm just saying the Suns need to give Okobo and Melton more playing time... the time that Canaan is getting. If the Suns want to keep him around fine.

i don't know why Igor stopped playing Okobo
or why he ever had faith that Canaan could be anything but an adequate scorer off the bench

TJ did foul Blake on his drive, but it's the type of foul that doesn't always get called
and coming at the height of his drive, i'll bet TJ didn't even know he made contact with Blake's face

Blake is an ass

Bridges had a bad shooting night. but he and Holmes are the best defenders on the team. They're consistent and are more valuable than their stats reflect on most nights.

I'd continue to start Bridges.
I'd sign Holmes to a longer deal.

After the calls Embiid got and Bledsoe got, yes, this call was bogus.

Of course your left arm is going to be up when shooting a right handed layup. One doesn't keep his arm by his side when shooting. It was a horrible call and it changed the course of the game. Warren's reaction didn't help but it's tough to blame him for being incensed.

Holmes is exactly the kind of player that the Suns always undervalue. They'll come up with some stupid reason to let him go next summer. Probably in the name of cap space to lure Durant, who will pay the Suns a vanity visit and then ignore them, prompting the front office to say that they "almost" got him and that jettisoning their best interior defender was worth the gamble.

Yeah, that just about sums up the current era of Suns futility.

Then they will hold onto the option on Anderson's remaining year because they value his "veteran leadership."

Hopefully Igor will help matters by expanding Holmes role on the floor. No reason he couldn't handle some minutes at PF. We are approximately last in rebounding around the league and he is well above everyone else but Ayton.

The Suns will want to keep Holmes. However, they will need to make more than a low ball offer. He will be in demand.

I doubt it. I think he'll be like Big Sauce and we'll either overpay for one more year because we think he'll be in demand or we'll let him go like some suggested in the name of using the cap space poorly elsewhere. If we could sign him to a long term deal for 3-4 million a year I'd be really happy with that but I could see him signing elsewhere for that.

The Suns should make every effort to keep Holmes. If it means overpaying a bit they should do it.

He is athletic and can protect the rim.

He has been a pleasant surprise for the Suns and he is only 25. The Suns know he wants to play. None of this old vet stuff anymore.

If he continues playing well Someone will offer more than 4m per year. There are always teams willing to over pay for big bodies that can play.

Watch, we will pay Ariza 15m then low ball Homes with 3m.

I know a lot more about the past then I do the future. So yes, the Ariza part I agree with but since lowballing isn't something we typically do, I'll worry about it if and when.

I do believe it might be difficult to keep someone like Holmes though as there are always teams with more money than sense. We've been that team a few times (Chandler and Ariza for example). Anyway, it happens often. The team that knows him best (both strengths AND weaknesses) draws an imaginary line in the sand and a team willing to cross that line for a bench player usually gets their man.

I think if the Suns want to keep him they should be able to keep Holmes longterm.

The only real way I can see him leaving is if another team offers him a starting spot and I don’t see that happening.

Yeah I just don't think he fits the mold of someone that will be in high demand. If he is pretty much guaranteed a large role with the Suns and is offered a fair offer it should be enough to keep him around.

Hopefully the Suns will show him enough money where he wants to stay. I'm sure he will have opportunities back East.

I know his mom likes Phoenix, which is good to see. She was outspoken about him not getting minutes early on but has been really positive since Chandler has been gone. I think his play style and having an outspoken mom as his biggest fan are what reminds me so much of Big Sauce. I know his mom wasn't that outspoken but she was always mentioned when Tom Chanders, Leander, Annie, or Kevin Ray would talk about him a lot. Maybe Holmes' mom will tell him to stay in Phoenix, help us out some.
