While I like the move, I do fear this was Sarvers call. If not, good on Igor and/or the front office for pulling the trigger.

My hope is this decision was made as a team. Dont expect any moves as I doubt there will be one. There may be something to the theory that this is how Igor has been managing his players. He gives a rope just long enough to hang yourself.

Dont get your hopes up if you think this is a sign Igor is next. He is not nor should he be. He has made some head scratching decisions. I have seen improvement though, and he deserves a legitimate chance to prove he deserves to coach in the NBA

My hypothesis is that the Lakers want Canaan, so Jones was doing another solid for his buddy LeBron by freeing him up. Rondo is out and Ball is questionable, so the Lakers may be looking for a stopgap. You'd think that being unable to hold a PG spot on the Suns' roster would pretty much doom a player's chances elsewhere, but as we've seen from Harrison, Payton, and Ish Smith, that's not the case at all. Canaan will find other work, probably soon.

From Evan Sidery.

This is the first I have heard about this.

I think kicking the tires is smart. You need to know the price before you can even consider if it is a smart move.

Price needs to be real cheap though IMO.

My first reaction is to laugh. Kid has the yips and I haven’t seen anything to make me think he can overcome them. So of course, bring him in.

I think the best thing for Fultz is to try an unlearn what he has been taught to correct his shot.

Of course he needs to be healthy.

You better be wrong.

Not even Sarver should be dumb enough to hire or keep employed a GM whose only moves are designed to help the team's biggest rival.

And more.

This is something I forgot about. They need to carry 14 players to meet the league requirements. So a move is imminent but who knows what sort of move. This would make more sense if it was December and 2 weeks out was December 15th, when players who signed this last offseason can be dealt.

If they don't meet the minimum roster size requirements they are fined the same as a minimum contract. I can't recall if that money is split amongst the rest of the roster or if it goes to the league. It's not very much overall but it does send a negative message, IMO. It says our front office doesn't know what they're doing because there are plenty of players who are better than nothing out there, even if they don't fill a need right now.

It does not say they don't know what they are doing. It says they are in the process of building a roster and want to make the right move, not just a move for its own sake.

Maybe Canaan was not as cool with being benched for Booker as Igor made him out to be, that and more time for Okobo would be my guess for the release.

For the fun of it here is a Sidery trade scenario.

I'm thinking the Suns still have a two-way contract opening available as well.

Call me old fashioned, but I always thought one should prove himself deserving of a job BEFORE being hired for it.

The problem is we don't HAVE a front office. Remember that nobody has been named GM, even on an interim basis, after McDonough was fired.

honestly, if there's a way to unload Ariza over there (who would be a good 3 and D guy) for Fultz and salary that doesn't eat cap next year, I'd be all over it. Worth a flier and get Fultz's shoulder worked on by the best training staff in the league.

Yeah. Not sure if I would be for this or not. It really would depend on the medical evaluation of his shoulder. Even if that looks ok that would still be a gamble - but probably one worth taking for a late 1st rounder.

The other thing people have to keep in mind with this deal - his salary is nearly 10 million a year.

We trade for him and our cap room really will take a hit, because bender, ariza and daniels are all expiring deals while he is not.

No free agent worth the cap space we would have is going to sign here, anyway. We need to trade for our pieces and return to respectability, not to mention actually get ourselves a GM, before we can even consider bringing in high priced free agents who are worth their contracts (as opposed to throwing $15 million at someone like Trevor Ariza who ends up not even being worth one-tenth that amount).

Ironically, it is in the news today that LeBron wants to play off the ball, but he is still playing the Point.

And disregarding Luke Walton in calling plays. And Walton had no choice but to give in and let LeBron call the plays.

Coincidence?

You make solid points but if Fultz is healthy, I might roll the dice.
