Yes, it was originally on the table when he signed the non-guaranteed deal. His agent pushed for him to sign the guaranteed deal but Big Sauce said nope, I can make more after I play another year....

That doesn't really make sense since the contract is not guaranteed by us and not Williams. He couldn't opt-out of it, so best case he'd play this year for $5 million if the Suns decided to keep him. Anything else happens, like he gets injured and missed almost the entire year, he gets 1 year of pay and then waived while struggling to find a team that will pay him based on his play from 2 years ago.

Do you have a source?

Sorry but I'm not buying that. Why not mention that previously? It seems you've contradicted yourself a few times here and the whole point you've tried to make doesn't make sense.

First you say Big Sauce is an idiot for not taking a guaranteed deal. People say that wasn't on the table, you say it was and he said he could make more this season without it being guaranteed except it was non-guaranteed by the team, not Big Sauce, so he couldn't opt out and sign a bigger deal and no NBA team waives a player to sign him to a larger contract. So there goes the idea that he said he'd make more money this season if he took the non-guaranteed deal. Then you say the guaranteed deal was for less money overall, which doesn't really make him an idiot for taking the larger offer. It seems like the inconsistencies were pointed out and you tried back pedaling.

We're talking about a 12th man, I don't see the need to make up things about having sources that apparently have much more info than anyone has ever heard of. It's not like you have the credibility here to make things claims and have people believe you when you say you have inside sources you can't reveal, it just doesn't add up. People do this all the time on RealGM or Reddit and I'm not sure why. Your post history seems to show you suggesting a few bad trades in the past and disappearing when people shoot them down.

Big Sauce is an idiot for not taking the fully guaranteed 3 year deal when he inked this....he gone

This is complete nonsense. You don't refuse a guaranteed contract, instead taking a TEAM option, instead if you think you'll outplay the deal.

In your utterly absurd scenario Williams thought he would play better than the contract value and... the Suns would then... not pick up the option... so he could get another, larger deal...

Makes sense.

Come on, didn't you see? The guaranteed deal was for less.

Can't name the source though but we shouldn't have known that. Deals like that sooo common in the NBA.

I've literally never heard of something like that before, or anything close. It's frustrating to see things like that because it's so obviously false that it's hard to understand the logic in even trying to pass it off as truth. Sometimes I wonder if people like that actually know they're speaking complete nonsense or if they actually fell for it when someone else told them. I'd feel bad if I thought it was the latter in this instance but I'm 99% sure he was just making things up as he goes.

I think this might have been posted elsewhere but I'll bump the Williams thread to make sure it's covered. Williams has officially been waived now, per Scott Bordow. It was also said this doesn't rule out the possibility of bringing him back later on a smaller deal. I guess we'll see if he can draw interest elsewhere or if the Suns find another option for a 2nd or 3rd string Center.

Bordow was the one who said they may bring him back on a lesser deal...

That needed to be done since his contract wasn't guaranteed. He also missed all but 5 games last season, which didn't help his case. He did do well 2 years ago but that was 2 years ago when we were tanking. He can score in the paint and rebound but they can find someone who does that on a league minimum deal. He'd be our 3rd string Center next year behind Ayton and Chandler plus he is undersized. So his fit isn't ideal.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Williams, but I like him a lot more at $1.4 million compared to $5.5. We paid him $7 million last year for 5 games. Recovering that slowly did not help his cause, at all. He was initially projected to return in January or February but didn't make it back until March and ended up being in and out of the lineup because of his injury. If he wants to be here, he can take a minimum contract to return. The Suns did pay him handsomely last season for nothing.

Me too. You dont cut sure things IF you want to build a solid roster.

From reports Williams was a huge locker room player as well. I'd like to have him on the roster as he would be a solid 3rd center. And Chandler is not the same player he used to be so I think Williams would get some playing time.

Williams, nicknamed “Big Sauce,” was one of the Suns’ most popular players. General Manager Ryan McDonough said last season that he couldn’t remember a teammate who was more popular in a locker room.

Why would they sign Williams when they could sign Len?

(the other teams, I mean).

My guess is that Williams has more value to the Suns than any other team. I'll be shocked if he gets an offer somewhere else.
