Eric, we will have to agree to disagree. .

My views on Voskuhl were shaped by the change in the Suns defense at theend of the 2003-04 season. That is when McDyess replaced Voskuhl in the starting lineup. It struck me as suggestive when a guy coming off three knee surgeries, out of shape and missing almost three seasons of play could out perform Voskuhl by such a wide margin.

Not much appeared to change at the start of last season. It appeared to me that Voskuhl was extremely ineffective on defense which is why I pushed so hard to put Hunter in the lineup.

Voskuhl was a good player who earned his money. He wasn't a good fit for the D'Antoni style because of his shooting (or lack thereof), but he was a helluva lot better defender than Burke. (Burke has played well at times but he's been Steven Hunter-like in his lack of consistency.)

Josh Davis had better know how to blog. ;) Seriously, if he's a former MVP of the CBA, he should be an upgrade over Dijon, and if he sticks, he might even move ahead of Jim Jax.

Dijon had a good time with the Suns, and now it's back to the NBDL for some more playing time. The Suns are doing what they can to help him develop.

Come on, let's be honest. Pat Burke has never had a chance to be consistent...

It boggles the mind how much space on this board is given these inane topics. Pat Burke vs. Jake Voskuhl?? Are we really THAT bored? :D

Obviously rebounding is important. For the Suns offensive rebounding is key as they give up plenty and don't accure much.

At last check the Suns were #1 in the league in blocks per game. Which is pretty good but covers one of their weaknesses.

Any player worth their weight can drive the ball down the lane w/o much resistance from the Suns.

The Suns don't have a guy that puts fear in the players out their.

Take for example Dalembert. Diaw's first shot was eliminated by Dalembert. It seemed to affect Diaw the rest of the game as he looked timid and weak versus Dalembert.

That imposing player on the court can make all the difference in the world as you constantly players go up against guys like Dalembert and shoot high arching shots, rush shots, or just plain dish the ball back out because they don't want to get blocked.

Blocking is nice... and I believe we did disrupt opponent's offense by forcing them to rush their shoots. But even if they miss, they have so many opportunities to get the rebound back. That's our biggest problem. Our defense can hold opponent's shooting % low but what good does it do if we can't reduce opponent's offensive rebound? They miss, they get it back and put it in.

I just think we could win so easily if we can secure the boards more. Maybe we are just way undersized. And my point is Burke doesn't solve this problem....

I like Lil Jake. He's got better hair than Burke. And doesn't turn red like him either. :D

I was so thoroughly revolted by the Suns' reacquisition of McDyess that I didn't watch those games as much, and when I did watch them, I tried to forget them immediately afterward. So I'll have to take your word for it.

Even so, it's not a fair comparison. McDyess, when healthy, was an elite athlete even by NBA standards, and his play with the Pistons last season (not so much this year) seemed to indicate that he has made a decent, if unspectacular, recovery. So it wouldn't surprise me too much if he was a better defender than Voskuhl, even in his compromised state.

Is Burke really 32 years old? I thought he was like 26 and just looked old. I guess if he hasn't learned to rebound by now he never will. Dang... you know he's not a bad athlete - runs pretty well and jumps quite well. Decent hands and some muscle so he should be able to rebound if he'd work at it. Its obvious rebounding is what the team needs so if he has a half a brain he'd be busting his butt to provide it - and I hoped with some PT he'd show something in that area.

I have to take a little issue with someone who said Voskuhl wasn't a good passer. Now you don't want him handling the ball a whole lot because he didn't have good hands but on set plays he could make quite good passes - almost deceptive at times. He used to work a give and go with one of our guards that was quite nice... during FJ's reign, of all things.
