This is surprising. The guy is talented, but appeared limited due to his height. He definitely wasn't overly impressive during the summer league. I personally thought Sims and Garcia showed more. You'd think an outstanding SL performance would be needed to warrant a camp invite. Perhaps others from the team will get camp invites as well. It sounds like it's not guaranteed from Coro's article.

Okay, that makes more sense. In the other thread I was shocked to see a guy who hasnt played in the NBA in 5 years get a 2 year deal.

The one thing I noticed Tucker could score and he was a tough player that opponents bounced of. He was not flashy but steady. A surprise signing but I was not focusing on him.

Good for him. The Suns will now have 12 under contract and are @ about $50m in spending. That leaves 1 more to sign which will be Robin or another scrub. They are @ the 85% with these 12. Hopefully this will allow them to grab some more assets by facilitating a trade and/or have enough for a max offer next season depending on what they do with Robin.

I like this move. When you are building a new team with a young roster, it's great to have guys who work their butt off and bring intensity every day. P.J. Tucker did nothing fancy in the summer league, but average 6.2 RPG in just 21 minutes. That's significantly better than both Garcia and Sims were. He's short, but has a 7'1 wingspan that helps a little bit.

Obviously this was a few years ago, but interesting comments on him from when he was drafted in this video below.

I too was impressed with Garcia.... I believe he has a team invite for training camp.

The only thing I saw during the summer league was Tucker didn't force many shots and his points came on "hustle" work. Garcia, Sims, Landry and even Garrett just started chucking up shots. But who can fault them they are trying their hardest to get their chance.

Maybe he has learned his leasons and looking for a new start just like Beasley?? But you can't have to many of these projects on a team.

In regard to big men, here are a couple of tweets from Jared Dudley in regard to Jermaine O'Neal.

If any team brings @jermaineoneal in for a workout I guarantee he'll get signed.. Looking explosive and aggressive. Happy to see him healthy

Jermaine O'Neal? Seriously? He can't play three games in a row without getting hurt.

Why not see if Yao Ming wants to take the floor in a walking boot?

Would you prefer Oden?

I wouldn't mind seeing Brendan Haywood or Andray Blatche on year make it break it contracts.

As I've already said, I don't think there's any point adding a low-caliber player who is going to compete for minutes with the big men the Suns already have. But if they must add someone else, surely they can find a prospect who is at least projected to stay healthy for more than 1/4 of the season.

Seriously, I dont know what some players have to do for people to realize they cant hack it. The last time Jermaine O'Neal had a really good season was 2007. Its been 3 years since he was even serviceable (when healthy). With former high picks its even more absurd. I think Darko might need to soil himself on the court before people finally give up on him. There is a thread on the Suns PSD board about wanting Oden on a four year contract. This stuff blows my mind.

I'm thinking the Suns should go for the European look say with add Kyrylo Fesenko or Darko Milicic.

The Suns would then have Dragic, Scola, Gortat and one of the above. :)

Three out of four isn't bad.

Also Shelden Williams might not be a bad pick up or go young with Daniel Orton.

Any word if the Suns have bought out Brad Miller or waived Jerome Dyson?

It appears the Suns have signed Tucker to a two year contract with the first year reportedly valued at $762,195. I'm hoping the second year is a team option.
I don't know about the second year, but it says that there are partial guarantees on the first year, meaning the Suns can still waive him at some point before or during the season and not have to pay him much. There is still a possibility he will not make opening day roster, although the Suns are still a player short of the minimum 13.

Could the Suns bundle Miller and Dyson into another trade? I think there must be a reason the Suns haven't done anything with Dyson and Miller yet.

Who knows, but it appears Tucker has been on Blanks radar since 2006. Trying to read between the lines at the Suns press conference, it appears maturity has been the reason Tucker has had a tough time trying to find a home in the NBA. He certainly appears to be mature now.

Also has anyone noticed (besides me) how Lance Blanks has opened up during the off season. He is so talkative now and offers insight into the players he has brought in. It almost seems he has transformed into another person whereas before, he seemed quiet and hesitant to offer his opinions. I like the new Blanks.
