Are you implying that Sarver ignores the value of his purchases and is only concerned with the total cost? I'd say 100M for Amare is a much better deal than 50M for the these other two people.

Well yes. Sarver is concerned about total cost. Smaller contracts are easier to move. I think your argument is valid about keeping Amare instead of a bunch of role players.

It is rather sad that thanks to Sarver when we hear about some player the Suns might add, the first thought of a Suns fan is what better player we might be losing.

How can we pay him though?

I thought we don't have any more capspace, only our trade exception.

It would have to be a sign and trade I think; I'm not sure what motivation Atlanta would have to do it though. Maybe we're offering to throw unprotected first round pick.

The Suns interest in Childress definitely caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting a significant signing no did I think the Suns were even exploring adding anyone beyond a minimum contract.

I'm not sure how most of you turn a possible signing of Childress into a cost-cutting move by Sarver. How would dumping J-Rich who has only one year left on his contract and signing Childress will most likely get a multi-year contract at or above the MLE saving money? Sarver's not an idiot. This news has me intrigued.

I like both of those guys, but what the hell are we going to do with Richardson, Turkoglu, Hill, Dudley, Childress on two positions?

No to Turkoglu! His contract sucks! We should get a pick from Toronto for taking that contract.

How are all of the Sarver haters going to spin this to make Sarver look cheap?

This really sucks. I've been having fun wallowing in my Suns-based depression and here they go and try to cheer me up. If they had made these moves before re-signing Frye they'd make even more sense. I'm a Frye fan but it sure seems like Hedo makes him somewhat redundant. And I've always liked Childress's game. I'd still prefer a complete rebuild but for a band-aid project, I'd rate this as pretty gutsy on the part of management. If Nash were 3 years younger I'd actually like our chances to compete at the highest level with this group.

I like Hedo a lot, but I agree- we should get a first round pick for taking his contract. If I remember correctly, it's 4 years (last year is a player option) at $10M-$12M per year.

1. Nash, Dragic
2. Richardson, Childress
3. Hill, Dudley, Clark
4. Turkoglu, Warrick, Lawal
5. Lopez, Frye

There has to be another deal forthcoming. No way Childress comes here to back up Richardson; however, if you look at it long-term, Richardson and Hill are likely gone next year.

Imagine a line-up of Nash, Richardson, Childress, Turkoglu, and Frye raining threes... and getting out-rebounded by 30.

I suppose there are a number of ways to do it. The Suns could trade Barbosa for a pick. It seems like the salaries are close and the Suns save a few bucks. Also maybe Sarver is now getting advice from someone who has knowledge of how to wheel and deal with contracts. Certainly I'm not good with this stuff. The Suns desperately need to get a quality FC in here so the deck may be getting shuffled with JRich, LB and Clark being cards.

This might resemble an older version of that Hornets team a few years back, minus the rebounding.

Frye is not a center.

Lopez, Frye, Turkoglu and Warrick must be the worst rebounding big man rotation in the league ever.

This team is turning into a D'Antoni wet dream.

Yep i agree.
I could at least get excited about watching this lineup go out there and compete(which i think they could). Hedo can do alot of things for your team, although he was at his best when D.Howard was a rock in the middle at Orlando.

I have to add: WTF does this organization have against going out into the FA market and getting a pure, fricken" rebounder?! My God it's like pulling teeth with a pair of chopsticks....

Yes, except I think Gentry will have them playing defense like last season. This is a very athletic second unit.

I give you a token in Dwayne Collins. I hope he can play. :D

I was secretly hoping for a banger too. What can I say, it's the Suns history. I used to like Jahidi White simply because he looked like a banger. Everyone needs a Hummer on their team.

Okay, what if, a year or two from now, the Suns dump Turkoglu along with 3 first-round picks? Trades like Barbosa for Turkoglu don't make Sarver cheap, it's what happens later. We've seen that already with Shaq. When we traded for him, we took on a lot more guaranteed salary, but paid only part of it and then dumped the rest. KT is another example. So to say that this trade proves that Sarver isn't cheap doesn't really make sense.

We'd clearly need turk to be the 20, 6 and 6 guy he was a couple seasons ago. If that happens we are talking about 2 rebounds less that Amare.

Childress would make that up. I haven't looked it up but I'm sure childress is a vastly better rebounder than barbosa.

Chap, don't make me research other NBA 2's that have had success over 6"6". :p
THINK BIG :D

I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying that this is the Phoenix Suns we're talking about--we've never been considered a "big" team.

So now you're hating on Sarver about something that hasn't happened yet? Wow!

No, I am explaining that there is a difference between taking on a lot more future salary and actually paying it. And this is backed up by recent history.
