Suns are playing for it all next year and after that this team is gonna be blown up cause we cant sign Diaw or Barbosa.

Doesn't this let us keep Tim Thomas?

sweet let's keep old players like the Toms and get rid of our young ones.

Had a chance at 21 to get the BEST POINT GUARD in the game, instead dumped Grant...please...

LMAO...the same best point guard whose team was beat by mighty George Mason? Riggghtttt....

Remember, some really good college players don't translate well the the NBA. Williams may become a great player in the league, but there are enough concerns to cause 20 other teams to pass on him too.

This is true, I don't care about the picks...I want to know is this money going to be reinvested or pocketed?

Wow JC should've never sold the team, Robert Saver is going to run this franchise into the ground.

I bet he allows Diaw to play this season without an extension just so he can save some more money for another year.

Then Diaw will leave the following season cause someone else will offer him more money.

And i guess this now shows us that Barbosa is a goner.

Saver probably will have him traded for a 2-1 dinner meal coupon at KFC.

There playing for next year!

Its all or nothing and next year with this team healthy its our best chance to win it all in since Barkley's first year here more than a decade ago. Tim Thomas helps us especially in the playoffs much more that either Rodriguez or Williams.

It was a smart move.

I don't know. The word that comes into my mind is "Bidwillian".

(Pre-Mike B., that is.)

Rodriguez doesn't cost Suns anything - i still think they're one guard short and one injury to either Nash, Bell or Barbosa, and there are no backups.
And that could mean, no championship.

Great, and very fair, question.

My neutral to semi-favorable opinion on this draft is based on them reinvesting that money in help for next year (aka, TT or another vet to plug into the system).

If Sarver pockets it instead of investing it in the team on the floor next season, after a profitable year and after talking up next year's title run, then I'd be pissed.

Thats what i can't figure out

We take Rodriguez and stash him in europe for a year or two

But we rather just trade the pick for cash?

How cheap can a person be?

Pinching pennies when you're filthy rich?

If Duncan gets hurt, no championship for the Spurs
If Dirk gets hurt, no champonship for the Mavs
If Wade gets hurt, no championship for the Heat

Notice a pattern here? If you lose a superstar, you aren't winning a championship ... PERIOD

If that happens, then it is no championship regardless if had picked or not. A #21 or #27 rookie is not going to lead to championship...

tim thomas may help us in the playoffs next year, but more than a really well-rested and healthy nash? we had a chance at the two pgs that i coveted most in this draft. guys that could LEGITIMATELY spell nash. guys that could help keep nash from looking exhausted as he did at the end of this year's playoffs. guys who could play and keep the wagon rolling while nash was out. instead, we're gonna get more of those 5 min droughts with nash on the bench.

ask me? the boob is continuing to show his true colors. finances are as important to him as winning. he does not place winning first.

he BETTER extend barbs and diaw and resign tt now or what the hell has he really done?

and don't give me the "amare is like the first pick in the draft" bs . . . WE ALREADY HAVE HIM!!! ADD TO THE CORE DAMNIT!

We lost Amare this past season, and still made the WCF.

Is he not a superstar?

We still have enough firepower to be real contenders if Nash goes down, but only if we have a legit backup.

Marcus Williams was rated the best PG in the draft by just about every single person that covers basketball.

We didn't pass on him to get someone we thought was better, we passed on him to save money. Thats complete BS.

Did we win the championship? No

Also I'd like to point out that maybe they weren't sold on the guys available. If you have any question about their draft choices, then they aren't your guy.

Not to mention we're stuck with their guaranteed money for 3 years for a guy, you don't really want.

Amare will take alot of pressure off Nash and when Nash is on the bench we wont have those droughts we have a legit guy to dump it into and gets points that way.

Realisticly we wont be able to extend Diaw or Barbosa someone is going to offer then near max money if they continue to progress the way they have. That why I said next year its all or nothing.

and right now resigning Tim Thomas gives us a better chance that either of those PG's. By the way there is a reason Williams fell so far he's a world class knuckhead and Rodriguez is not ready to come in and handle an offense like this anyway. Neither of those guys were sure things.

This is splitting hairs, but under the new CBA, the contract is only guaranteed for 2 years, with two team option years after that.

What are the odds that the Suns even scouted Marcus Williams? No one expected him to be available when they picked at #21. Maybe they did and they weren't impressed. I would've liked them to keep Sergio at #27 for $800,000 a year.

There were a lot of nice propsects at 21, but none really suited to what the Suns are about. Rondo can't shoot, Shannon Brown can't run an offense, Farmar and Rodriguez can't defend, etc. etc. Marcus Williams has the hype, but he's not terribly athletic (plus out of shape) nor an exceptional shooter to go with some serious character issues.

If they can't really play point guard better than Barbosa, then why take on their contracts.

I've got no problem with this draft IF and ONLY IF all of the following happens:

KT, TT AND LEO are all on the squad come next season.

If we look like this next year:

Nash
Bell
Marion
Amare
KT/Boris

Bench:
Leo
Boris/KT
TT
James Jones

than I'm happy as a clam.

That team has more depth at G than the 2004-5 team with Nash, JJ and Barbosa who couldn't get off the bench and the depth at F/C is just disgusting.

Not to mention the fact that we still have atl's #1 next year in the deepest draft in ages.

This team is loaded up and ready to go next year, with the lure of a high pick next year to start the bridging process to the next era.

However, if all of the abvoe doesn't happen, then Sarver's a freaking chepa ass boob.

I'm still waiting for someone to address the point made about drafting someone (Rodriguez, Freeland) and leaving him overseas. What would be the downside to that, as opposed to just giving away the pick?

With the moves made today, I think they can sign tim thomas for around 4 million next year, and not pay luxury tax. So they should be able to have the above mentioned roster next year.

The bigger question is will they extend BOTH diaw and barbosa. That is where we will see what sarver is about.

The roster as it stands is 10 deep (excluding House and TT). If they stay with the Suns, then we still have to fill 3 more roster spots. With what money do we get them filled?

Especially since the 2nd year of the contract (two contracts, if kept 21 and 27) is 07-08, when the real financial crunch hits the team, assuming Diaw and Barbs extensions.

Do you really want to be paying one or two second year players you're not crazy about? Or use other assets to trade them?
