When he was in his prime, he was the best all-around PG in the league. He is no longer in his prime. Not by a long shot. When he inevitably loses a step in the very near future, his strengths will be gone.

He was an all star last year and was 5th in the NBA in real plus minus. He’s quite close to his prime on a per minute basis actually.

there is a reason he’s available at this price

you don’t get flawless impervious 22 year old all stars for Rubio and Oubre

still waiting for your 2019 report tho

35 year olds with long injury histories don’t generally get more durable the older they get and more miles they put on the tires.

that’s not a bet I’m going to make. I get it you like him.

Yes, he had a good year last year. But the science says a very steep decline is right around the corner.

No - Paul is making 41 Million

That is 9 million of our 18 million of cap space.

Do I think Rubio / Oubre combined are worth 32 million - yeah just about. They are 2/5 ths of a starting lineup as opposed to 1/5.

My side has an all star and 9million fewer dollars (that would be spent on some mediocre rotation guy). Your side has two mediocre guys.

I’m satisfied.

All these people complaining about Paul’s age, how do you explain his 2020 season? His all star appearance?

I’m no fan of that contract, but he’s far from a has been, even at his age. I think he can sustain it for the next two years if his contract.

I would suspect that much of Paul’s injuries were related to wear and tear intra-season. I think having to bear a massive load was taxing on him. Sharing the load with SGA and Schroeder last year, and missing two games, seem related to me. Booker can take a massive usage to help preserve Paul. I do think we need to draft a PGotF or get one on the MLE that can push Payne for 3rd ball handler minutes.

Paul is either going break him mentally and turn him into Kwame Brown or turn him into an all star. We’re going to find out

That's actually a good point. Might make it worth the risk right there just on that.

We would be looking at Rubio instead. I would put my chips on Paul versus Rubio lasting.

It’s a good thing he’s already way better than Kwame ever was!

I think having an elite passer playmaker floor general will help a big man beast that finishes everything get a lot more easy buckets. We might get to see!

Paul's contract sucks but he's not washed up. Him booker and Ayton is a very competitive 3 probably the 5 seed in the west baring injuries or suspension. Do you all want playoffs for sure or gamble on another rookie and signed player?

Maybe.

Even so I think he is costing us a Jerami Grant, and another high pick in this draft which we could flip Oubre for.

I would much rather have 2 young guys for the next 4 years+ to build with than Paul who is gone in 2 and has a good chance of cratering in performance.

The trade as proposed would be all about keeping Booker happy, clearing cap space in two seasons to keep Ayton and Bridges plus hoping they can get two seasons out of Paul.

do you have a cite for Oubre being available for a high pick? Besides some random trade porn?

I just dont see us getting Grant since so many teams want him.

The other teams that want him that are any good just have their exception - If Paul wasn't eating up our cap space we would have a fantastic shot at getting him.

Jerami Grant isn’t all that. He’s actually pretty similar to Oubre. Only advantage with having him would be a longer contract.

He would 100% be a lateral move, not an improvement.

I really don't see Bertrans adding more to this team than Paul, and I agree with Chap that Grant is a lateral move. We do have Mikal Bridges.

We still need someone who isn't a major liability in the starting line up at power forward.

No brainer? For OKC yes. Paul is a 35 year old player that has been breaking down for years. Yes he's coming off a pretty good season where he was actually available but this guy missed more than 20 games a season for each of the 3 years prior. No thanks.

If we simply don't want Oubre, just give him away but don't take on a ridiculous contract like Paul's. Might as well just wave goodbye to Booker when that experiment fails and given that Paul clashes with almost every star teammate he's ever played next to, it's almost assured.

If the Suns don't want to pay Oubre in 2021-22 they should be able to trade him for a first round pick with no money coming back and use that cap space to acquire players and picks. It's probably the same thing the Thunder is going to do if they do the trade. I'm not sure why they are infatuated with Chris Paul. I think the Suns could better use that money elsewhere.

Here is how I think the Suns view it:

They are not going to pay Oubre and Rubio has only two years left on his contract so both will be gone in two seasons. Adding a third star helps keeps Booker happy and they free cap space when Paul's contract expires after the 2021-22 season.
