Greg Monroe. F/C

Thoughts?? Greg Monroe is 23 and similar to Pau Gasol, in some ways. Lack of athleticism is concern but doubting Pistons match and the Suns would have 3 Picks to move up, or stash in Euro.

Last year Monroe averaged: PTS 16.0 REB 9.6 AST 3.5 STL 1.3 BLK .7 FG PCT .49 FT PCT .69

I'm sure they'll match. Unless they just draw a line in the sand and swear to never again sign a David Falk player, they'll match. You don't let a young and talented big man walk without compensation. I don't know a lot about the business side but I really don't think there's a team in the league that would simply let him sign elsewhere. He has no major injury concerns so if they can't find a decent trade they'll just match the offer and trade him when the time is right.

Monroe would struggle in Pick n Roll and shot blocking area, but post defense doesn't seem to be lacking. He's not as bad as Kevin Love defensively but I'd be concerned with athleticism too. Not sure he's big enough of upgrade on offense either for cost but if the Suns could get prorated contract or contract that goes down per year, I could live with.

According to his agent he will be signing a max deal. I don't see how that will fit your desires. I also don't see how we can afford to give him top dollar while emptying the safe for Detroit at the same time. They won't trade him for petty cash.

Monroe is likely to get max from Pistons?? or by matching?? I'd have-to see the Teams with cap space but I figured reading Hoopshype rumors months ago, they had moved on.

McDonough is great, I have confidence whichever way he goes in offseason (as long as it's not a mole like P Gasol, M Ginobili, etc.) and/or aging vet.

I see one. Circumstances put him in the position to go for it . . . and he did, successfully.

Now we need a superstar in the low post to become a real contender. Even if Bledsoe decides to stay, which I would bet against happening, we would still need dominance in the low post to advance.

You think he is a Superstar? I don't consider him a top 5 player IMO.

You do realize that superstar aren't just top 5 players anymore right? That's not how it works today.

Durant, LeBron, Griffin, Harden, Dwight, CP3, Parker, Curry, George, Westbrook, 'Melo, Rose are all considered superstars and not all of them are top 5.

Of course guys like Noah, M Gasol, Dragic, Davis, Conley, Stephenson, Kyrie, Wall etc are all borderline superstars who may reach the next level soon.

Since when did the definition change? I didn't get that memo. Funny how definitions change to fit the argument at hand.

Many NY fans want Melo to opt out so Ny can let him walk for nothing. Hardly a superstar. Rose used to be close to superstar level.

Rose is still a superstar, just of rehabbing now instead of basketball. :bang:

This board seriously needs a Stickied list of argument ground rules. High on the list would be: "You can't argue about who is or is not a superstar without defining what a superstar is." I swear we go through this every few months.

We'd have far less activity on this board if we had fully agreed upon definitions for words such as superstar, athleticism, choking and tanking. Even if we packed our bags and our lunches for a gathering at Nicaea (or whatever it's called these days) and hammered out an agreement on each of these words, forum turnover suggests it would only work for a short while. Some people think "stickies" means optional reading.

Well, actually, I guess that's exactly what they are. Optional. But there's optional and then there's optional. Old school interwebbers know to page through the FAQs and Stickies but these kids today....they're out there racing their hot rods and listening to the devil's music.

Those kids need to slow it down and listen to some good music.

No I don't realize that. Most of the guys you mentioned are not Superstars regardless of how they are marketed. Superstar IMO is defined as the elite of the elite in the league. Tier 1 franchise changing guys are Superstars IMO. Everybody else is a tier below. Bledsoe is NOT a Tier 1 guy IMO but I guess all this is open to debate.

OK, I should have said "star of our team", with numbers that are making him a star of the league. OK, so I'm a Phoenix homer as I have been for over 3 1/2 decades.

If it were just "star of our team", it could conceivably be any team's best player with 14 points and 5 rebounds or assists per game.

Dragic has clearly moved up in status in the NBA this season. Ironically, if it weren't for Bledsoe's absence, it probably would not have happened.

When Goran drives or pops from outside, we're now surprised if it doesn't go in. Granted, he would have to raise his assist level and defense to move up in stature.
