For Tony Mitchell, a 6-9, 235-pound PF that averaged 8.2 points and 7.2 rebounds in six games in the NBADL. He was drafted 37th in 2013.

Hopefully he's more of a bruiser/rebounder that a 3pt shooter.

I'd be fine if it turns out that he's nothing more than a good practice body. Trying to get Tolliver minutes hasn't worked well for us. I understand you want to do right by someone you've signed as a free agent and it's not really fair to simply park Tolliver on the bench but he just hasn't been a good fit for us. If Mitchell turns out to actually deserve some court time it will be pure bonus IMO. And if nothing else, it saves us some money.

trade $3mil for $.8mil. Uh on i smell a HUGE trade coming. It has to be.

JK. Send Tolliver to a team where he'll get some minutes and save a few bucks in the process. I dont have any hopes for Mitchell. From the sound of it, he's a bit lazy, soSVG just found another guy who was hurting the chemistry of the team. Would not be surprised if Mitchell is waved in the coming weeks.

Odd trade. Sounds more like accomodating Tolliver.

OK. Now reports out that they are expected to waive Mitchell. It will free up some money and open a roster spot. Just a way to waive Tolliver and save some dough in the process.

Conventional wisdom says that another deal is in the works. IT is made for New York City, JMO. But, the Rockets need to open a roster spot to sign Smith. The Rockets are reportedly working on a deal to create a roster spot to sign Smith. The Suns just cleared enough cap to take any player on the Rockets roster, except Howard, Harden, or Ariza, with nothing having to go back.

Great opportunity to pick up Terrence Jones, DMo, or maybe even a player like Capela.

"Hmmm...right after the Suns put up a bunch of pictures of Tolliver buying Christmas gifts for the less fortunate. Happy Holidays to you, Suns management."

... and yes there is a lot of buzzz about waiving him for cap space and a big trade ...

I'm amazed that they didn't have to take a loss in order to get rid of him.

Eric Bledsoe just became eligible to be traded today.

Heck of a deal! I hope that opens a little daylight for Warren. I don't mind Randolph getting minutes because he can defend and rebound but his age makes him a 'temp' in the scheme of things.

To tell the truth if it weren't for Warren I'd be pulling for the Suns to give Randolph a place in the rotation and lots of encouragement. When he joined the team I read an article about him and discovered that in college he was a prolific scorer. It looks like he decided that his only hope was to be the best dirt worker he could, so he forgot about scoring. I'm sure that he still works on his offensive game in private. I thought it would be ever so cool if he could end his career in a blaze of glory - a blaze relative to his eight years of complete obscurity. (Being an old guy myself, I have considerable empathy with old players.) In basketball terms he's not that old, having played about a thousand total minutes - though he was out of the league for 2 years so he might have logged quite a few minutes overseas. Fans love a good story and he seems likeable enough that I could see them getting behind him, too - which always helps.

Joe Mama recently suggested giving Plumlee's minutes to Randolph and that might be a good short term move in the sense that Miles could get motivated if he sits by idly for a bit. We've all seen that Miles is capable enough to be a good backup center so motivating him just about has to be the key. (His little brother is looking out of reach now - he's starting in place of Brook lately and he's had at least one breakout game.)

It might be better just to do nothing except give Warren more time.

Good trade on the Suns part as they will save money and open up a slot on their roster. The Suns are looking to add another key player that can grow with the team. See quote from the Paul Coro article at azcentral dated 12-24-14.

"The thought process is to try to put ourselves in the mix to add a big player via trade," Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough said, referring to stature not size. "We want to be aggressive and active. We want to solidify ourselves as a playoff team. The flexibility would allow us more wiggle room to make a trade."

"We'll stay consistent with our approach and philosophy," McDonough said. "We have a good core of guys in their early 20s and mid-20s and they have us in the playoff hunt. It'd be something in that range that could help us this year and then grow with us."

This is exciting because the Suns are not content to remain status quo.

This. Warren is a scoring machine. He just needs to get on the floor

Except that I just read the article which reminded me that Tolliver got no minutes the last 4 games. So Tolliver's minutes are already gone it would appear.

As I read the article, the Suns want to add a younger quality player that will put them in the playoffs. I think about the only position that can likely be eliminated in return is a PG.

I wouldn't put it behind the Suns. I'm sure the Suns asked Detroit for Jennngs but they probably wanted too much or something for him.

The Suns are thinking the more PGs the better ;)

Being comical for a moment but can you imagine 5 PGs on the floor at one time. Need two taller PGs to play center and PF. :p

In the game vs. the Mavs, I was watching Dragic trying to guard the 7' Dirk Nowitzki. No wonder he's not pleased with the 3-Point Guard lineups -- he's been pushed from Point Guard to Shooting Guard to Forward.

In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, Goran "don't get no respect" (from the Suns).

I think Goran gets plenty of respect from the Suns although it may not always look like it.

If they could, I can see the Suns trading for the 6'7 Michael Carter-Williams for the same precise reason you mentioned :D

If one of those guards is a young Magic Johnson the 5 guard offense might even work.
