Per the Blazers’ visiting media welcome email I just received, Deandre Ayton (ankle) is listed as questionable to play tomorrow. Cam Johnson (illness) is out. #Suns

Well that sucks we won't have Cam for a while. I hope he can return this year but I wouldn't plan on it. I had mono in high school right before the basketball season started. I was told I'd be out from 2-6 weeks, depending on how I responded to the antibiotics. It also depends on how quick they catch it, which I don't think will be an issue with Cam since he's a professional athlete who is seen by trainers regularly. I doubt this is something that went untreated or undetected for more than a couple of days.

There wasn't a firm timetable when I had it 20 years ago and it appears there still isn't, based on what I just saw when googling it. It said symptoms can last for 2-4 weeks. It'll take him a little while once symptoms subside to get healthy enough to play because it completely drains your energy.

Hopefully this will be his only bout with it. Once you get it, you have it for life but it's rare that it flares up again. I was one off those rarities so I know it can come back and that second bout is worse. The longer he goes without issue after he gets healthy though the less likely he'll have to deal with it again. If he can make it a year without issue then he should be in the clear since he's already in his 20's and the most common ages to be effected are between 15 & 24. He's already at the max age that most people get it and hopefully that will mean this is it for him.

They have better medicine for Mono nowadays. A girlfriend of mine caught it in college and she felt like crap for 2 or 3 months, but now it can clear up in a few weeks if they catch it early enough.

At least I know what is ailing Cam which makes me feel better. He should be fine in time. The Suns have had a real problem this season keeping a healthy roster. I'm hoping Ayton's ankle does not become a chronic thing. Of course we do not know all the details on Oubre's surgery and Kaminsky has been slow to recover.

I do not want the Suns to rush anybody back. Looks like the Suns may be content to keep that 15th slot on the roster open unless something else happens.

Monty's been forced to play effectively a 6 man rotation with a 7th and 8th player getting spot minutes. You would think that at some point they would bring in reinforcements, particularly since we now know Oubre and Cam are out at least a couple of weeks, if not longer, while Frank has been out for months. Forget us as fans. This isn't fair to the remaining healthy players, who are being run into the ground and therefore have a greater risk of injury.

Hmmm, they called mono the kissing disease when I had it in college. I had broken up with the girl
I was dating and she called a few weeks later to say that I needed to see a doctor.

That was back in the '60's and, although I had "reached 3B" (this is a sports board), we hadn't
gone all the way. So I wondered what was going on. Yup, it was mono. It took a month for the
blood tests to identify it in my red and white corpuscles. Then it was gone six weeks later.

I flunked three final exams while the diagnosis was in limbo. I couldn't sleep at night from the
swollen glands in my neck. And I couldn't stay awake during the day. Frustrating times!

It is crazy that we haven’t signed another wing to at least a 10 day contract.
If there is any reason other than the owners pocketing as much of the revenue as they can, I'd like to hear it.

Seriously, is there another reason? 'Just another example that the Suns General Managers have done nothing more
than run errands and carry out the basketball decisions of the investors. The banker runs the sport like a . . . bank.

There is a chance Ayton might play tonight. No need to rush it.

If he is still icing the ankle, why would he play tonight?

To risk a greater injury? It's not like we're competing for the playoffs.

It doesn't sound quite right. Let's hope the powers that be know better. No need to rush Ayton back.

It's called working through injuries. I'm sure pro athletes are in pain or injured more than some people realize, which is why some athletes - mostly football players, are all banged up when they're done with pro sports. Do you guys expect Ayton to not get a workout in and just sit around and ice his ankle? These salaried players are on another level of expectations.

I bet Booker ices his wrist, I bet Baynes ices his entire body.

I don't think icing stuff is at all unusual.

That said; if he has any discomfort he should sit.

That is a generalization that usually applies. Athletes are always banged up.

But, with Ayton having another ankle problem, it means the area is weak.

There is no need to risk further injury at this time.

Bridges gets the layup by getting out on the break.
