Booker has exhibited leadership qualities. He organized off season workouts for several years, those probably helped build up the chemistry that helped the team so much the last 4 seasons, he has also been firm in his commitment to the team, never trying to publicly force moves and never once hinted that he wanted to be any where else. I have also never, for even a moment, doubted his effort on the court.

But he also isn't a vocal guy who can direct where he wants people to be on offense and defense, and while I have seen him try to coach up teammates and get them to step it up, I have really seen it work... but those moments typically involved Ayton, who seems to retreat when confronted.

He doesn't have the ability to physically impose his will on the opposition or his teammates... this is true, but I don't think it makes him a bad leader.

Him bailing on the post season interviews last year wasn't a good look, that is true. I think something really ugly went down in the locker room and the whole team seemed too raw to talk to anyone.

Darius Bazley was a Sun. We had the ability to bring him back this season on a qualifying offer. Not saying he was good here, he was not, but it's very Suns like we give up on someone who goes onto to look great elsewhere.
What about this guy?

Thompson went undrafted in 2021 after playing four years at Oregon State. He was one of the best guards on the court at the Winter Showcase in the ways he took players off the dribble, made tough shots with a hand up and the way he found teammates in the lane. Thompson averaged 30 points, four assists and three steals over two games and is a player teams might be looking to add to a two-way contract in the future.

That whole thing has been a black hole. There was one rumor by Dan Bickley about possibly something with CP3. No one is talking about that or the Mavs debacle either.

Everyone else stuck around to talk.

As far as not being able to dominate physically, that is not his fault that he can’t do it, but not being able to do it still dings him as a leader, IMO. That kind of dominance can lift an entire team enough over the course of a series.

Also, Booker is NOT cerebral on the court. He plays hot, too often letting opposing teams get under his skin, start playing out of control and stupid. Teams take their approach to the game from the head of the snake and when that head can get screwed with like Booker’s can, that kind of thing trickles down.
