Makes you wonder: What kind of penalties do refs get, IF (HUGE IF), they were found guilty of controlling the outcome of a game?
It brought to mind a discussion I heard over the radio about illegal immigrants, and why they're being hired by slimeball companies. These companies stand to gain a LOT of money by hiring overworked, underpaid workers that will never complain. So what if they get caught? Pay tens of thousands in fines, when the workers afforded them hundreds of thousands in profit?
Maybe it's the same way with the refs. Earn a killing betting on the underdog - say hundreds of thousands, and the penalty (again, IF caught), is maybe what, ten thousand? Twenty thousand? Do they get fired? Don't they have a union?
Maybe this is why the Spurs lose to the Hawks every year?
Not a conspiracy guy, but just something to think about.
