I haven't watched Mavs game yet but before DerMarr Johnson is considered - Suns don't have much depth at PF, Googs being only back-up right now. Marion should be back soon and with Penny, Jacobsen, Barbosa on bench... I'd consider a PF.

DeMarr Johnson is playing for the Long Beach ABA team. I am not sure he would help. If he was any good I think anothe NBA team would have picked him up by now.

I don't blame Dallas or the other Maverick players. I am sure Mark Cuban is not happy about Fortson's play. He owns the Mavs but he is a basketball fan. Fortson is a *******, apology or not. There is no punishment that can make this right. Suspending him for 6 weeks would be as close as the league could get. I doubt the PA would let that happen even if it was another player hurt by his action.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid..........

That sucks, Zarko's first start and he has to sufffer an injury because of a stupid play like that.

BTW I think Fortson is a starter for Dallas. At least I am pretty sure he started tonight.

oh i wouldnt say that he has no ability, he can rebound and get 6 fouls very fast :) but he is a bruser of a player and will go out and do whatever he needs to do in order to play.

My guess is that will either be Archibald or Trybanski coming in off the DL.

Assuming Mairon is not available, I would look for a starting lineup of:

C - White
PF - Stoudemire
SF - Johnson
SG - Jacobsen
PG - Marbury

Hardaway and Voskuhl will be the first two coming in off the bench. If Hardaway comes in for Johnson, then Jaccobsen moves to SF. Barbosa might get more than garbage minutes.

Googs will get at least 10-12 minutes, but he will have to be more productive than he has been ilately. Scott Williams is another option to backup Stoudemire and White has experience at PF as well.

Damn, I can't believe that about Zarko. Good to see Jerry C sticking by his player though. Zarko's gotta be pissed out of his mind right now.

I have to say though. With all the naysayers, all the people who said the Suns were doomed tonight.. there was one person who said the Suns were gonna come out and win it. Who was that, by the way?

It wasn't as cowardly a foul as Starks submarining Shawn and Starks lied and claimed he was going for the ball - not possible since he bent over looking at the floor with the ball high in the air as he backed under Shawn. The refs called that a flagrent-1 if I recall correctly and the league whitewashed it. At least Fortson got a flagrent-2. My guess is he'll get a 3 game suspension. If the league feels like getting Cuban they may slap a long one on his player. Suspending him as long as Zarko is out would be equitable but I don't expect it.

I don't accuse the Mavs management of doing this. But is hardly a new idea of having a marginal player pick a fight with the best player of the opposite team or better yet injure him. The worst that can happen is the team loses a marginal player while the opponent loses the use of their best player.

:(

I could see that as a possibility if the Suns weren't up by 30 pts with 3 minutes to go in the game. I thought Fortson did it out of frustration (which is no excuse at all). It was just a stupid play that never should've happened and never should happen again (but I'm sure it will). Kenyon Martin did things like this a couple of times and got nothing more than a wrist slap. I remeber when he tackled Rodney Rogers into the crowd on a fast break and he didn't even get a flagrant foul. The NBA needs to start making examples out of these players if they want this kind of activity to stop. I would like to see Fortson suspended for a year without pay or at least suspended for 6-8 weeks without pay.

Now that I am cooled down.....

It will be interesting how the Mavs organization responds. They have always been a team that dislikes thuggish players, just like the suns have. I wonder if Cuban or Nelson will take a stand and give him suspensions above what the league gives him.

I mean he isn't really a key player for them, so it wouldn't hurt them much. If they just sideline him for the year, or even waive him it would show a lot of class on the Mavs part.

I would expect some sort of suspension of Fortson, but I doubt the Mavs will get rid of him right away. The Mavs lack anyone else who is even close to being a power player.

Other than Fortson, the Mavs are a typical Don Nelson team -- all small fowards that can shoot the lights out. The Suns are considered a "finese team" by many observers, but the Mavs do not have anyone like Amare much less Jahidi.

I wonder

how Cuban is going to react.

You all can figure out if that happened to one of his top bench guys (jamison, etc), he would be all over espn demanding action.

I just want to see how he reacts when it's his OWN player doing the damage.

He likes to bitch when something happens to his team that is "wrong". Let's see how he reacts when the tables are turned.

Is he going to step up the the plate and make an example?
