I think you guys are crazy. ;)

I'm 99% sure there's going to be a player at #7 who'll turn out to be a superstar--someone unique, but with the same value as McGrady, or Amare, or JO, or Dirk.

If the Suns can figure out which player it is, they'll have (at worst!) a great #2 guy, with a chance to hold onto him for 10 years. How can you not get excited about that?

That's why I'll be disappointed if the Suns draft Iguodala, even though I think he'll be a very solid NBA pro. One of these young kids is going to be a lot better than Iggy, and the Suns should have as good a chance as anybody of identifying that player and locking him up.

I'm curious how many of the 10 players that will probably be available at #7 you've seen in order to make such a grandiose statement like that.

I saw all of the HS kids at the McDonald's game, of course. Not that it means anything, since I don't trust my own scouting for HS players. :p

What I do see is most of the projected gems from the 2005 and 2006 drafts throwing themselves into this draft even though they're not ready. My guess is that's because of the lack of star power among the players who are ready or maybe it's the impending age limit, but that's what's happening.

Add to that the fact that most of the teams ahead of the Suns got there because they can't scout, and I don't think my conclusion is much of a stretch.

I'm not concerned about finding a future superstar. I'm concerned about finding someone who can play at the NBA level and be productive within a year or so.

I am very clear about what I think the Suns DON'T need:

1. A project center who might be able to play four years from now.

2. A high school "athlete" with minimal basketball training and no defensive skills.

3. A pint sized college shooting guard who is supposed to become a point guard overnight just because he's short. (The Suns already have that).

4. A center who doesn't rebound, block shots, or play tough defense.

let's see...

1. Pavel, MA. Actually Biedrinis also fits into this category according to the last reports from his workouts, but I know you really like him.

2. This is definitely Josh Smith. There are a few others who fit into this category, but I know this has to be about Smith.

3. The only question here is whether you're talking about both Harris and Gordon or just Gordon.

4. This would have to be Pavel and MA again.

Which eliminates effectively every guy anyone has talked about going to the Suns...

1. Lampe
2. Amare
3. Barbosa
4. Lampe again...

Why do you hate the Suns so much, George? ;)
