That same team one year later went to the championship game against Duke where they were hosed by the officials. I have the picture of Williams climbing all over Gardner's back for his 5th foul but there was no call.
I remember that game. And it still pisses me off about the officials. Im not one of those kinda fans that blames officials for everything, but it was so obvious we were getting it in the rear in that game.

U of A should have another championship.

They played the following years:
In 1942 they lost to Kentucky
In 1949 they beat Yale and lost to Kentucky.
In 1951 they beat Columbia, North Carolina State and lost to Kentucky.
In 1952 they beat Dayton, Duquesne and lost to St. John's.
In 1963 they beat Bowling Green and lost to Loyola of Chicago.
In 1981 they beat Wyoming and lost to Kansas State.
In 1983 they lost to Utah
In 1984 they beat Villanova, Maryland and lost to Kentucky.
In 1985 they beat Northeastern, Georgia and lost to Georgia Tech.
In 1986 they beat Fairfield and lost to Alabama.
In 1987 they lost to Austin Peay
In 1988 they beat Texas-San Antonio and lost to Villanova.
In 1989 they beat McNeese State, Ball State, Louisville, Syracuse and lost to Michigan.
In 1990 they lost to Dayton
In 1993 they beat Long Beach State and lost to Vanderbilt.
In 1994 they lost to Georgetown
In 1995 they lost to Tulsa
In 1997 they beat Southern California and lost to Tennessee-Chattanooga.
In 1998 they beat South Alabama and lost to Maryland.
In 2000 they beat Pennsylvania and lost to Florida.
In 2001 they beat Northwestern State, Charlotte, Kansas and lost to Arizona.
In 2002 they beat South Dakota State, Creighton and lost to Kansas.
In 2003 they beat Western Kentucky and lost to Notre Dame.
In 2004 they beat Murray State, Cincinnati and lost to Duke.

One Final Four and NO national titles for Illinois. I'd say Lute's program is head and shoulders above the Illini.

Actually, Illinois has 32 wins (before this year) and three final fours.....

Got to love basketball in the early 1950's.

Yup! One final four since then (should have been two - the 1984 team got screwed when they played Kentucky in LEXINGTON with horrific home-court refing but Ky in the final four that year).

Actually, isn't Lute 17-7 all-time against Illinois, including a win over a number one seeded Illini team - speaking of choking - in San Antonio?

These look like 2 good games so far.

I want Loiusville and UW-MIL to win.

We got the Loiusville and Washington game out here in PHX, so I cant see whats going on in the other game. Just see that the score is close.

Same here - Louisville cuz they are Conference USA (well, for about a month more) and Milwaukee... cuz well, it's Milwaukee!

Louisville is playing Wash really hard right now - a lot offensive rebounds with the put back

KPHO-DT has UW-M/Illinois. I am switching back and forth.

Both are good games so far.

However I am pulling for the PAC-10 Huskies.

Talk around here that the asst. for Louisville Reggie Theus(sp) may be be the new head coach for NMSU. Would be a good deal for NMSU if true.

I'm rooting for the pac teams but I would not mind seeing Bob Knight win it all.

Milwaukee hung tough but it looks like they are done.

They can be proud of the run they had. They needed to shoot much better from 3 to beat Illinois tonight.

Cowboys and Wildcats up next!
