Hmmmm. The last time Illinois was a #1 seed and made a regional final they were knocked out by...ARIZONA!!!

History repeating? :D

Great finish, thought that no call on the Graham pushoff was going to doom the Cats, especially when Salim bobbled his dribble out high and nearly went to the backcourt. What a clutch player he is.

Good luck against Illinois, I picked them to win the whole tournament but if Adams plays as well against them as he did last night UA might win it.

According to NCAA tourney records, this is actually Illinois' FIFTH final four
(1949, 1951, 1952, 1989 and 2005)

Illinois now has 36 tourney wins, 19th most all time.

U of A now stands with 4 Final Fours, and 40 tourney wins (tied 10th All-time)

Give me a break John, you know as well as I do that the 1950s don't count when it comes to Final Fours because only 16 teams even made the tourney. Plus you neglect to mention Arizona actually winning a title unlike the Illini plus all Arizona's accolades having been accomplished in the last 20 years.
There's no question who has the better program no matter what the score said on Saturday, just look at the fact that Illinois' last two coaches saw the job as nothing but a stepping-stone.

:biglaugh:.....simmer down now, simmer down......

I did note that Arizona was 10th all time in tourney wins, Illinois 19th :)

The flip-side of Arizona having all the success in the last 20 years is that Pre-Lute, U of A was putrid in basketball. Can they sustain it after-Lute??

Stepping-stone?

Lon Kruger left for the NBA - the millions he was offered would have gotten most coaches.
Bill Self only had one program he would have left Illinois for - Kansas, a program with more history and tradition that U of A and Illinois combined.
